Stayed here in June for a week, in a sea view, 2 floor duplex apartment (no. 407), with four single beds, on the hotel's top floor (top part is built onto the roof, but not at all cramped).
The town is quiet and has not been touched by tourism very much, but as the island's main town has enough shops and cafes to give you variety for a week and let you buy all the essentials.
The hotel is 15 mins brisk paced walk from the main town square, but there are some cafe's and restaurants en route. We planned around this and one good thing was that we were only a short walk from the town's cinema, in a small modern arts centre.
The staff were always helpful, including the breakfast waiter, who remembered every day that I prefered soya milk.
The apartment was clean and spacious, with a living room and shower room downstairs. The bathroom and both bedrooms were on the first floor.
Good sea view, across the bay to the Monte Brasil headland and fort.
It has 3 aircon controllers, which worked well.
The beds were comfortable.
The room safe is free.
The room fridge has some space for cold drink bottles and snacks.
There are tvs upstairs and downstairs in the apartment. The local cable package is the best I've found in a med country (several eng. language news channels, a couple of main USA entmt channels in english and portugese channels had plenty of current U.S./U.K. drama/comedy series, subtitled, but with original dialogue intact).
The showers were hot and water pressure was good at all times of the day, but one had a loose drain cover. Also one toilet seat was chipped.
Good draw and wardrobe space for four people, but only enough hangers for two people.
One of the bedrooms is really a landing, albeit a large one, with desk, drawers and wardrobe. It has no privacy. It's open to the living room below and the main bathroom and second bedroom can only be accessed by walking through it. This was ok for a holiday with close relatives, but probably not for two couples.
The outside swimming pool is freshwater and bigger than it appears on the photos. It was quite warm mid afternoon, even on days with 20 as the highest temp.
The indoor pool was in use, but we didn't try it. It isn't big enough for proper lengths swimming. The walls were a patchy brown, as if they had just been prepared for decoration.
The sea view from the balcony was great, but there was no table and one of the chairs was broken. Also, there are pigeons living just above the balcony, on the hotel roof, which put me off using the balcony frequently.
The hotel only has one internet terminal, in reception, which was broken all week.
The buffet breakfast had a decent variety of hot and cold food. It was in a nice ground floor room, but every day all the blinds were half down, so the middle of the room was gloomy. It wasn't really hot or sunny early a.m. so we didn't understand this.
