5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2013

The Talisman is like stepping back in time, in a good way. The staff were so friendly and
helpful, especially Fatima. I loved the old-world furnishings and décor and the restaurant
food was great. A lovely place to unwind and catch up on some reading.
The Azores are an old world gem, and its people just lovely. I'll be going back.

Room Tip: whichever side of the hotel you face the views are interesting, any room would be good

we booked in there last min after an overnight sailing trip fell through. Room is big and clean, service is good, location is central. We got a good last min deal which is great value. Hotel restaurant serves traditional Portuguese food.

Great location, but avoid the rooms overlooking the street with bars (inc. their own!) on a Fri & Sat. The Fri & Sat buffet is a good way of sampling local cuisine and represents excellent value. For a 4* hotel, I thought having to ask for the minibar be filled and then being charged regardless of whether you drank it was rather tacky!

We spent a week in this very quaint hotel which is full of character and has a superb central location in the old town of Ponta Delgada. It is situated at one end of the Main Street so is close to shops and restaurants. We were in one of the old rooms and although I have to admit it was quite small, it certainly was adequate, clean and there was plenty of storage space - in fact I have been in much bigger hotel rooms with much less storage space. Our room overlooked the Main Street and a couple of nights there were a few noisy revellers obviously enjoying themselves but it was not a problem as far as I was concerned. The staff were more than helpful and friendly. The breakfast was very good and although I appreciate there was space restriction, I would have liked a greater selection or even a variation from morning to morning.
I certainly would recommend this hotel to anyone going to the Azores.
The restaurants were all excellent and it was very cheap to eat out. We ate in O'Corsico, Nicola,
Mercado do Peix, Aliance, 100 Espinhas, and also in a Sushi and Noodle cafe in the shopping mall. We had exellent meals in all of them. We ate in little cafes on the Main Street at lunchtime - the best value one cost us 3.60 euros for 2 large cheese baguettes, a coffee and a glass of red wine - unfortunately I cant remember the name of the cafe! But they are all of similar price.

A nice hotel with charm as it seems to be one of the older hotels in town. However hotel has been kept in a good standard. Had breakfast included and restaurant had a fine choice of dishes. Pool area was not that interesting and fitness area had many machines out of function. Room was nice and of acceptable size. Had small balcony towards the square. Some noise from traffic in the morning mainly due to the cobble stones.
Service from the front desk was very helpful. However, used them to book a car which when it came was very old and used

First, I do want to say the staff is extremely nice and tried hard. We also liked the convenient location.

But I found too many things lacking to think it deserved this number of stars...like no facial tissues in the room; hot water kettle with tea packets only (cups & spoons but not napkins); a 'mini-bar' with a note saying you can ask to have it stocked (I turned it on myself and used it as a fridge); a 1 Euro charge/day to have use of the in-closet safe; an unchanging breakfast buffet offering CANNED peaches?; hallways with motion-detector light, some of which don't go on until you've walked a good distance in the dark; and chronic over-booking. (we were lucky, but saw and met quite a number of people who were sent elsewhere, many having just arrived off planes from other countries). We were put in a 'suite'; the entry livingroom had 2 love seats and a chair, but no TV (an empty TV cart faced) or desk, so it really didn't serve an purpose. And the all-wood floor were cold and unappealing with not even one area rug near the hard-as-a-rock beds.

Room Tip: We had read on this site of noise from the pub at the back of the hotel; has live music on weekends...

This is truly a lovely hotel in a great location. The rooms are big & staff very accommodating but beware, they tend to over book so make sure your reservation is tripled checked before you leave. You don't want to get bounced as we did for 1 night!
