Great facilities, great decoration.
Large rooms with 4 star ammenities.
Breakfast very good and setup always ready and clean.
Could improve service and food offer speccially in the bar with light and cheaper snacks.

The location is not 1st line in the city but the views are great and theres a good car park and leisure facilities too.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the upper floors away from the noise.

I was booked into the hotel by the airline SATA because of a cancelled flight. My first impression was of the reception area which is impressive, and the staff efficient, The room is of an adequate standard. But the dining room is a disaster area. We were full board, and at lunch, with few guests, there was only one main course, which was just about accceptable, since the majority would be half-board: water and fruit juice were part of the buffet. The evening meal was like something out of Fawlty Towers. There were few staff, all busy clearing tables. No-one checked my room number; no-one asked if I would like a drink; there was no water on offer; there was only one main course. Dinner is served from 7-10pm; I went down at 8pm, to find the staff already laying for breakfast, though people were still arriving for dinner, and so had to sit down at tables prepared for breakfast. At one table near me, a man hung his jacket on the back of his chair, served himself with soup, and then went to get his main course. While away from his table, the waitress came and stripped his table completely, and when he returned he found a bare table with his jacket still on the chair! Had I not seen it, I would not have believed it possible.

I was vaguely amused at all this since I was not paying. Had I been, I would have been quite angry. Four stars? Perhaps, but badly let down by the diningroom.

Definitely not a 4-star hotel. Do not be fooled by the name or number of the stars this hotel has.
.
Location: at the very busy roundabout. At least 20 minuts long walk to the beach. Industrial area.
Close to the medium size supermarket. A lot of noise all around.
.
Internet: for fee. 1 PS at the ground floor for free internet access.
.
Rooms: Definitely not a 4-star hotel rooms. Maybe something between 2 and 3 stars,
.
Breakfast: Exactly the same as the other 2 and 3 star hotels in Ponta Delgada. OK.
.
Look at my photos.

Stayed here for the second time a week at a time
+ friendly staff
+ excellent breakfast
+ clean rooms with a seaview
+ downstairs pool/saunas/jacuzzi free for hotel customers
+ lots of free parking space right next to the hotel
+ a large shop few hundred meters away
+ lovely and reasonably priced room service

- take some earplugs with you, traffic noise from the adjacent traffic circle can get overwhelming
- on the second visit, our tub leaked through the wall into our room
- if you don't like walking or don't drive, it's far from the centre

All in all, I would recommend, had some of my best vacations staying at this hotel!

My family stayed here in August. Great value. More of a typical business/conference type hotel. Since we had a 3 year old with us, it was not convenient to walk to main part of Ponta Delgada. Clean and staff were helpful with obtaining taxis for us including one that gave us a full day tour of the island. Buffet breakfast included. Disappointed they did not have local pineapple as part of the breakfast. As people have stated before me - pillows were awful. They need to replace. Internet not free which surprised us as it was obvious a lot of business/conference people were staying in hotel.

My wife and I are currently staying at The VIP. I would have great difficulty finding fault with this hotel, even if we had paid full price! We got 9 nights at a fantastic rate of around £40 B&B. Breakfast is buffet style, hot and cold and there is something for everyone. We have so far eaten in the hotel 3 nights out of 5 and the food is superb! House wine which is delicious is only 8 euros a bottle. Our bill including starters (couvert) mains, wine, water, coffee for me and a sweet for my wife has been around 50euros which is fantastic value. The hotel is only 15 minutes walk from the marina or 25/30 minutes from the town centre. A cab is 5euro to/from town and 10euro from the airport. Lots of nice little bars for beers and snacks at the marina as well as the amphitheatre restuarant which is superb at reasonable money. This is a training establishment, but the food is anything but trainee. The staff where friendly and attentive and again our total bill was around 50euro. We look forward to the rest of our holiday and will be back.....for sure!!

The hotel met my expectations, or maybe even surpassed them.

The location of the hotel – 20 minutes stroll from the center - in a nice little town like Ponta Delgada is not that important, if the transportation system works. In this case it did. There is a mini bus service running 6 days of week and the closest bus stop is only about 100m from the hotel - and the fare is only 35 cents! Even the taxis are quite reasonably priced - 5 euros to the center, 10 euros to the airport.

The room was cleaned every day. The bathroom was spaceous, clean and functioning. Some minor marks of wear were present. The only thing I can complain, was the lack of tissues.

The breakfast was a buffet with the usual sortiment: scrambled eggs, bacon, wieners, oatmeal, 4 sort of cerials, yogurt, fruits. The only minus was that they tend to run out of tomato and cucumber slices, if you turned in after 9 o'clock for your breakfast. On the other hand they had a good variety of breads and breakfast rolls.

The staff was frendly and helpful. For instance, my return flight left early so I could not have the breakfast (normally 07h00-10h00). So, when in the previous night I asked them to call me a taxi for early in the next morning, they spontaneously brought it up that I would miss the normal breakfast time, but they would provide at least a minimal breakfast with coffee and rolls and cold cuts.

I would recommend this hotel and would come here again myself.
