“Clean, comfortable, and contemporary.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2012 via mobile

I stayed here on a short stay so I can't say much about area around the hotel. But the hotel itself was nice. Very nice gym. The room was clean, comfortable, and contemporary. WiFi throughout with the purchase of a voucher.

The rooms are very comfortable except the pillows, maid were very pleasant and bathrooms and room kept very clean, good views and breakfast very good, fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals, cold meats, pastries, toast, bacon and scrambled eggs. We tried the Pnoramic restaurant, service good and meal looked very presentable but lacked seasoning and please stop calling white wine from Pico island Vinho Verde, it's not as we live in this reason of Portugal and we get slightly miffed!!!
If wanting a meal on a budget then go two blocks behind the hotel on the Western side and there is a fantastic takeaway/sit down restaurant with daily menus, great staff and food very good value, Cozinha d'Arlete Restaurant, if wanting to go out then the restaurants are very expensive for the type of food and ambience, try Cais 20 in Sao Roque, which is half an hour walk to the East side of Ponta Delgada and € 6.00 by taxi, great economy menu and they have specials which are great.

Room Tip: Ask for Sea View Room as the other rooms face the back of the hotel and no views, just buildings and...

Went there for a night meal. Food quality and cook was very good. Service was excellent.
The restaurant is very nice and with good prices.
Really nice view from the balcony. During summer I assume they organize dinner out on the balcony and that has to be a must.

If you like to be close by the sea and near the city centre, than this is not your choice. However, if you have a car, the hotel is quite near the airport and the major roads to everywhere in the island.
VIP Executive is a standard 4 star, with solid service, although you must not expect anything above average.
The whole premises and the rooms are very clean and you can find everything you may expect from a hotel of this kind, such as a nice restaurant on the top floor, a health club with interior pool, large variety of island tours, as well as a decent breakfast.
Service is discreet but efficient.

I have stayed at the hotel VIP Executive (pronounced Hotel VEEP) twice before and I will be staying there again this September coming. SO I must be happy with it.

The best thing about the hotel is that it is reliable and clean, and the staff will try to help with any problem you might have. The rooms are comfortable, the breakfast buffet is good, and the restaurant on the top floor is very good. It is close enough to everything that a short taxi ride gets you where you want to go.

This is not a five star, but it is not pretending to be one either, which is refreshing. It is a good business hotel, with good rooms and internet. A great view from the rooms overlooking the town, most of them with balconies.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balocny overlooking the ocean

Although it is a 4 stars, it is a deception. From far the worst 4 stars i've been and for many small stupid reasons that became too much for enjoying the stay.
From the Hard bed and pillow, the badly working tv, poor quality breakfeast (has variaty, but the quality of the bread and the confection of the eggs are less that would be expected), to the lack of confort of the bar couches or the indiference from the staff, this is a low quality hotel. I would prefer a good and clean guest house to this.

This is a good place to stay in Ponta Delgada. It's good value and it comes with a small health club. The VIP Executive is a large, modern and proper hotel. It is the kind of hotel used by business people and European tour operators. The building is presentable and the lobby is impressive enough.

The staff are not only efficient, but also very friendly and helpful. It's easy to forget how important this can be.

The room was upscale and modern. Not a huge room, but not small either. Great view, even from the 3rd floor. Small balcony with chairs. Nice large, modern bathroom. Good TV with multiple English stations. The reception was just a touch fuzzy in the lower stations. I don't remember seeing a coffee maker. The air conditioning worked fine, but there were only three temperature settings. (I like to set it very cold.)

The breakfast spread was good. Standard kind of Portuguese hotel breakfast; not ultra-luxurious but with a nice variety of fruit, juices, breads, cereals, pastries, etc. I never did figure out how to get the coffee I wanted from the coffee machines though. Scrambled eggs, but you could order other eggs to order. Hot dog wieners for sausages.

There is a free computer set up on the reception desk. They also have wifi, which is something like 3 euros an hour.

This hotel has a small health club attached to it. So the VIP Executive offers more fitness options than most hotels. Guests are able to use the facilities. There are a number of different cardio machines. The weight room was not that large, but there was enough for most people to get a good workout.

The VIP Executive is not really walking distance from town, so you may need a car or other transport. There's a bus stop nearby. Bus B takes you to the large shopping centre and then on to the downtown. It doesn't run in the evenings. If you don't have a car, you'll probably end up taking a taxi into town. Or you could walk of course. It's only about 20 minutes. My impression of Ponta Delgada is that the town, as nice as it is, is not so active in the evening that you really need to be based there. We were there during a festival and we were able to enjoy it fully even though we were not based in town. There are driving and parking restrictions during a festival.

There is free parking on the street near the hotel.

The Sol Mar complex is nearby (about 150 metres). It's a large department store and grocery store. Anything you could possibly need is available here. It was interesting to see what Azoreans need in a grocery store. It all looked very tempting. Interestingly, there's also an "America" store close to the Sol Mar complex, selling products from the US. Presumably their clients are the many Azoreans who have returned to retire in Sao Miguel after a lifetime in North America.
