“Only if Sunny”

If the sun is not out, the colors of the lakes are washed out. Beautiful area even with clouds. Great photo opps.

“Fantastic site.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

We walked from the "Kings View" car park down into the lakes area. We had a drink in Sete Cidades village and then continued back up to the northern rim. This was a steep climb but worth it for the views, both out to the coast and then back down to the blue and green lakes. Well worth the aching legs!

“Beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

Suggest walking the caldera rim for lovely views of the lakes and the Atlantic coast. You can do a 12km circular walk from the abandoned hotel down into the village up the hill and back along the rim of the caldera if you've the energy and time. Definitely worth it!

“stunning views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

we took the road up from Ponta Delgada which winds up the side of the crater on the east side and went to the Lagoa de Canario park/ viewpoint (turn off the the right from the road). Despite low cloud we had a stunning view across the lakes to Sete Cidades.

“Magnificent view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

The town was having the coronation celebration at the church which was very interesting. We then went to the edge of the massive volcano crater with a magnificent view of the two lakes below.
