My husband and I were visiting the Azores for the first time,in the beginning of 2006.As soon as we landed in Ponta Delgada we were amazed over that wonderful nature.I think Paradise has come to Sao Miguel.Even though it was in January, the hills had a bright green colour. When the journey was ordered by the tourist bureau,I had an impression that this could be a pleasant journey, and I was right ! ! We had 14 days on this beautiful island. We had some good excursions on Sao Miguel : Sete Cidades,Furnas,Ribeira Grande,Lago do Fogo,Pineapple-plantation,Gorreana(tea-factory).Along the roadside we saw all the hydrangeas that had finished flowering. And of course we saw the piebald cows. The guide told us,that if we could show a photo of a piebald cow with white ears,he would give a bottle of wine.No one never got that bottle ! We have been treated very nicely by the Azorian population, either you stayed in the hotel, visiting the restaurants or went shopping. My husband and I are not that kind of people who spend hours and hours on the beaches in Southern Europe.I think it´s too boring. So it was the right thing to visit Sao Miguel. We have now been in Denmark 3 months after visiting the island and even now we are longing for the island. Some day we will return again.I won´t hope the Azores will be spoiled by too many tourists.I know it seems selfcontradictory, when I myself am a tourist, but that is my opinion.Look around some places in Southern Europe (I have been there),and you will see what I mean. It´s a shame. So Sao Miguel,be yourself ! At last I hope I get the opportunity to visit the other 8 islands in the Azores and see how they differ from each other.
