“Nature and Ocean”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2014

The hotel is located on the sea in wonderful garden.
We were alone in the hotel and the staff helped us with maps for tracks in the area.
The food in the restaurant was delicious.
It was cooled so we just went to see the swimming pool and the veranda. Very nice!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

My wife and I stayed in this hotel during a very slow period of the year. We were almost the only guest and therefore, did not expect too much of choice and service at this time of the year.

However, to our delight, the staff was always very nice and informative and they were caring for us to get something to bite (prepare food in advance and place it in room fridge to heat up for xmas eve on our own with a portable microwave). We found that very nice, since the entire island and all restaurants and bars shut down, so that it was impossible to get a hot meal otherwise.

Due to most restaurants being closed over xmas, we also had dinner at the hotel a couple of times and found it to be well prepared and tasty every time.

Regarding the room: it was in good condition, well heated and clean. The only thing we did not like so much was the fact that the bed was hard (only a mattress on a fixed-bar wooden frame) and twins put next to each other. However, this seems to be quite common and we had that in other hotels too. Another thing that was a bit surprising but not so disturbing was that bath towels sometimes smelled like they had been dried next to a deep fryer.

Breakfast was ok, we could not expect too much, first being on the Azores where there is no extensive breakfast culture and second being there in slow season. So it was basically the same every day. On some days, we could order eggs and real coffee with the waitress, whereas on other days when nobody from the hotel was around, there was no such opportunity and only lukewarm coffee that tasted like nescafe out of a metal container was available.

All in all, we enjoyed the time in this hotel and in Pico and would likely book the hotel again and recommend to colleagues.

This place is fantastic. I was there only for 1 night, but would definitely go there again. Highly recommended. Really calm, you can even hear the ocean, surrounded by nature. There is also free internet.

Totally recommended! Wouldn't mind to stay there again if I ever go to Azores!

Delicious food. Ask for the Oreo icecream, passionfruit cheesecake, octopus "à Lagareira" or any other dish. Simple the best homecooked food you'll ever find. Surprising. Still drooling!
(Oh and their cheese is amazing. I ate a lot for breakfast! :-) )

Rooms were even better than expected. Super big and with nice decoration. We even had a sofa and a kettle (which was perfect. Mind it's October and the weather is not as nice as it's in summer. A tea is always welcome after a rainy day in Pico ;-)

Very nice staff working there as well, they all speak a perfect English and they were always helpful.

We recently stayed at this hotel the rooms have recently been updated but the grounds are quite tired looking. Outside of the gym there isn't anything to do here and it is a nature hotel. The food in the evenings was very good however the breakfast was very basic. It is essential that you have a car here as there are no real amenities in the immediate area. Lajes a town about 10 mins in the car is a nice little fishing village and the main hub for the dolphin and whale watching. We spent 5 days with espaco thalasso and had a truly amazing experience swimming with the dolphins a wonder in their own environment. We will visit the Azores again but will probably stay on Horta it is a much bigger island with more to do and see.

Room Tip: The larger rooms are better but you pay a premium for it

Beautiful hotel-resort on a cliff with direct access to the sea and a nice swimming pool also overlooking the sea. Very quiet with several areas to rest and enjoy the view or a good book. Also of note a terrace over the sea and a whale-watching tower from which, if you will not see a sperm whale (by the way not uncommon in the area), you most likely will see some dolphins. The rooms have been recently beautifully renewed. WiFi is available in room and in the bar-restaurant area.

This wonderful hotel has different stones house spread on different levels among old trees and above a bay with cristal clear water. We had a junior suite with two rooms facing in two directions towards the ocean. The only thing missing about the room was a balcony or terrace, but there are so many wonderful places with chairs or benches to relax and enjoy, so this is no deal. To swim in the sea you have to 'climb' down a steep path to the water, but it is worth it, cristal-clear, refreshing water and swimming with waves. For those who do not want to climb down the rocks, there is a very nice swimming pool with a huge deck available (also reachable by the 'seatrail' through the forest). Whenever we went there, we had the whole area for ourselves and enjoyed the peaceful place and great view.
Breakfast was mediocre, after having a really nice dinner at the hotel restaurant, we would have expected more. Choice very limited, quality ok.

Room Tip: Our junior suite was number 9; fantastic view from the living room and sleeping room, no balcony. Pl...
