First of all, Wifi is available at a charge, which is absolutely not acceptable now, then even 2 stars hotels have free Wifi. We were shoсked.
The hotel has a great location.
Room was cozy and well designed, but very dark. There were only 4 lamps, and one of them didn't work all time of our stay, although we asked to repair it.
And one detail: if guests using mini-bar to store personal items, hotel will add 5 euro surcharge for its storage!
Breakfast was good, but rather poor for this class of hotels.
Lobby stuff and waiters at breakfast were ignoring guests and were not very friendly.

Stayed in the Hotel do Canal with my husband and 2 and ½ year old son for 4 nights and it was OK.

The reception staff, when we arrived, were 2 teenaged boys who did not seem to know much about the island. After insisting, they finally recommended us a couple of restaurants which were quite nice. However, most of the time, whenever you passed reception, you could see that they were playing card game in the computer or chatting to ne another, completely ignoring passing guests. Not Ok for a 4 star hotel! Only the lady receptionist (Sónia, I think was her name) was knowledgeable about the island and gave us some tips of what to see and do.

Our room (#103) faced a patio (no view of Pico Mountain) and did not have much light. That and the fact the decoration is quite dark, made it all feel a bit sad. However it was spacious and had everything we needed.

Wifi is available at a charge, which I think is absolutely not acceptable for a hotel this standard.

Breakfast was very good, with local produce and a choice of breads, eggs, juices and local cheeses.

The hotel is located in walking distance from many restaurants and Peter’s bar (what unfriendly service we got there!!!). We went out every night and did not sample the hotels restaurant.

The ferry terminal is longer in front of the hotel. We took a taxi to it and it costed 5€.

Nicely located at the far end of town, right by the harbour where the whale and dolphin watching trips leave from and a few doors from the famous Peter's Cafe. A modern hotel with spacious rooms. Our side facing room with patio doors looked out over the church so was very quiet (the bells sounding the time are off from 10pm, so no problem there). Effective air conditioning and a safe, tea and coffee facilities (having milk brought up costs extra) and a mini bar. The hotel's 2 guest computers in the lobby are free to use (reception provides a free one hour pass on request) but our tour guide was told that there are plans to extend free Wi Fi in the hotel. Reception was very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were good, mix of hot and cold food.

Room Tip: Rooms on the church side are quiet.

Great location in Horta. Remember to ask for a room in the front in order to get a view of the water. Rooms for more than adequate & the staff great! Ask for their restaurant list as this is a very good start.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the front!

This is certainly one of the main hotels in Horta, and so that means the whole island. It is convenient, overlooking the old ferry terminal (which has now been resited at the far end of the sea front). The hotel is spacious, has some lovely quiet alcoves and lounges, and fine rooms, those at the front with small balconies facing across to Pico.

Breakfast is served in a large dining room, which, in the evening, doubles as a restaurant. On the occasion of our visit, dinner was a buffet only, but at €25 per person, this is a bit expensive, especially if you don't normally eat much...you have wine and water on top of that. I came here for my 70th birthday (also our wedding anniversary), but opted not to celebrate with a free-range buffet. But, to be fair, when management found out (by chance) about our celebration, they did send a bottle of sparkling wine to our room.

WiFi is available in rooms at about €5 per 24 hours from first log in. Basement garage for parking has radar operated door that requires a device from reception.

Not the quietest of places - the Pousada da Santa Cruz would be better for that - and popular with coaches tours, and therefore all the attendant noise and clutter on arrival and exit, but it's as good as it gets in Horta. Go for it!

Probably the largest hotel on the isle of Faial located along the seaside road in Horta. Breakfast is good, service is good, and the rooms .... it all depends what you get. First we got a small room at the back of the hotel (with a busy road), where the airco did not work. Despite attempts to repair it the temperature stayed around 30 C, and the air coming from the aircosystem was like it came from the hairdryer. It took some ( and some more) words with the staff to change to another room, but when we managed at last we got a larger, cooler room with a balcony and a sea-view and view at Pico mountain on the island at the other side of "the Canal", the sea passage between Faial and Pico. From that moment all was perfect. The hotel has a nice , but standard restaurant, so we preferred some local restaurants, all within 5 minutes walking.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front side are the best (balcony and great views). If not available, try to avoid ro...
