“If you sail to Horta and you don't visit Peter's, you have not actually been to Horta”
This place is absolutely unique for sailors ! I went in May during the Atlantic crossing as many other sailors. You have to imagine the bar, full of tired and happy of arriving sailors, after 15 to 25 days at sea. They drink many of this unique Gin and Tonic and then discuss, laugh and eat.
Notice that the family can send postal mail to Peter and that the staff keep it preciously and give it to the crew when the boat arrive from crossing. This is a tradition from the time where internet and satellite's phone didn't exist.
For those who found it a little bit "touristic" in summer with all things about whales etc…, just go there, eat the good food and drink a gin tonic thinking to the time when you'll have the chance of sail-crossing the Atlantic from West to East.
Have a good time at peter's cafe sport
