“Algarvesurfschool and Sugres hostel review!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2014

It is very cozy place, with such a friendly atmosphere, specially due to the gays working there. I will never forget those lunch time cookies, Hayley;) Also they are very good as a surf school, they've got very talanted and professional surf instructors. Thank you so much and see you soon again;) Oleg

Very friendly staff and all round great service!; rooms were as expect clean, tidy and comfortable. I stayed in the dome rooms, 6 to a room prefect for my budget (there are private rooms available if you prefer or for couple!).. Tea, Coffee available at any time and quite often left overs from breakfast available and most days treats that were home baked by Hayley each day!

The breakfast! Breakfast in Sagres Surf Hostel was awesome; each day the basics fruit, cereal, juice, bread, jams, tea/coffee and then on top of this some different prepared, cooked and baked every day from pancakes, coconut cakes, quiche style stuff, eggy bread etc etc.. You could even make up some sandwiches for lunch at breakfast!

On the evenings you could either do your own thing or most nights there was something organised from just going out to the Hangout bar for pizza, BBQ nights or film nights just the ticket if your travelling on your own.

The surf school itself is located on Amado beach; if you taken lessons or just want to grab a lift each day at 10 after breakfast the camp staff rounded us in to the surf camp vehicles and off we went.. At the beach at surf camp hut your got your board, wetsuit hire (if you need them) and enjoyed the surf. In the surf school like me that meant 1.5 hours morning and the same in the afternoon.. All the instructors and coaches were friendly and knew their stuff (many of them lived at the Surf Camp with you!), my instructor Cam was very professional but relaxed and fun at the same time!

If you wanted days off from surfing you could do other stuff like dolphin watching, scuba diving, walks and so on.. staff at the camp would assist in any way they could even checking availability and organising for you as well as drop-off and pick-up in some cases! - Great!

Highly recommend it if your after a Surf Camp experience! I will be back!

One of the key reasons why I chose to stay in this hostel was: excellent Tripadvisor reviews, and YES they were all true and more!

Everyone was talking (rightly so) about very friendly staff and amazing breakfast. In my opinion, number one thing about this hostel are friendly people there. Everyone in the camp, especially lovely Caroline, are making you feel very welcome, pampered and taken care of, everything is ok, done with a smile, it creates really great atmosphere in the hostel.

And then, THE breakfast! You know how when you think breakfast, you usually think: some bread, cheese, maybe an egg. NOT! Breakfast in Sagres Surf Hostel is a real feast! There is something special prepared, cooked and baked every day, you have tough time to decide where to start every morning! Best breakfasts ever! Plus, you make your sandwich in the morning, when you are back from surfing there are always some cookies in the kitchen – so you will definitely not be hungry here. And if you are offered a team dinner or BBQ, don’t miss it, it is delicious too!

On top of that, I would add: very high quality of the surf school, I learned so much from Ale, things that I will continue using in the future. Even now, when home on the continent, I am repeating in my head some things, not to forget for my next surf trip :-)! Hostel was also very clean, cozy, nicely decorated, in the girls dorm we even had our own bathroom – very precious thing in a surf hostel.

I don’t think I would change anything about this hostel. Highly recommend it! I will be back!

I had a great time at the Algarve Surf camp in mid April. The lady in charge, ‘Caroline’ was super friendly and very helpful. I arrived with my own surfboard and was able to hop on the bus to ride the waves at Amado beach. Every morning we were served breakfast which was delicious and sufficient for a days surf, plus you got to make sandwiches. The rooms were great, tidy and clean, there was also a communal guitar which I had a jam on in the evenings. If your going to Sagres to surf, this place is all you’ll need to have a good time :-)

Food at breakfast was perfect - wide variety of things and a bonus free lunch too - excellent value for money. Staff were amazing and gave excellent advice through out the trip. Rooms were airy, clean and spacious. Highly recommended.

The Algarve Surf Hostel is part of a company that owns two more hostels in Lagos (one to open soon) and a surf school. I booked a one week surf package and was pleasantly surprised how flawless everything went. I arrived quite late at night yet they waited for me to show me to the shared room.

The rooms are spacious and i was especially happy with the bunks that were big enough to have a good night sleep. I've experienced really small bunks in other hostels.

Breakfast is amazing and not at all what i expected from a hostel in Portugal. Every morning the super cheerful staff makes a special treat, be it pancakes, omelettes, muffins or bacon and egg in muffin tins. Then there is fruit salad, all types of cereal and granola, bread rolls, etc. sometimes they organize a dinner out in a nice restaurant where they get really good deals or they would cook a lovely meal in the hostel. Im a vegetarian and They would always make a veggie option for me.

The staff is super friendly and traveling by myself I immediately felt like part of a big hostel family. The entire atmosphere is super chill and welcoming thanks to the great people who work there.

I also took surfing lessons and found that the surf coaches were doing an excellent job. They give you theory knowledge as well as practical. At all times I felt very well instructed and absolutely safe in the sometimes rough conditions in the Atlantic ocean.

This hostel was THE best choice, I loved staying there!
