“Great value, excellent staff, fantastic location and good bar”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

A great experience with the hotel overall; it might look a bit run-down when you enter but the rooms are nice and clean.
- Had two balconies, a microwave with a grill function, kettle, toaster, 2 ring hob and fridge.
- Reception was always there to help, they even spoke to the travel agent when the booking got messed up. When I ordered something from the net, they took the parcel up to the room. They even called the transfer company to confirm the booking.
- Bars and the promenade just across the road
- Lidl is in Portimaio, you can get a week's shopping in for around 40 Euros and get the taxi back for about 6 Euros.
- Toni's bar downstairs was great, good prices, great entertainment and nice coffee. Pool area nice and clean.
- Cleaners came 2-3x a week towels changed, beds made, apartment cleaned.

Room Tip: It can get noisy if you are staying above the bar; the higher you are the less you hear. We stayed o...

Just back from Solmonte and would definitely suggest this as a great base. It is dated but our apartment was huge, the space we had was a little wasted on just the 2 of us because we don't spend much time stuck inside. The reception team are all very helpful and made calls for us when we wanted to hire a scooter to explore, all we had to do was tell them when we wanted it and they arranged everything. Maids came every couple of days to clean and give fresh towels and replacement loo roll so not sure how previous reviews could complain about the service, we even got fresh towels the night before our check out day! The location is great, less than 5 minutes to the strip, and the beach is just below the strip so very close. The hotel is on a main road so access out of PDR is simple if you want to explore. Pool area was basic but a good sun trap, the pool is freezing but a place to cool down. Toni's bar below the hotel is small but very welcoming, cheap and Toni is both funny and helpful, giving information about places we wanted to go, and his special pink cocktail tasted better than any other in PDR! Try Solmonte if you want good value and location, if you want luxury there are some great spa hotels too, but don't expect 5 star if you only want to pay Solmonte prices!

Stayed in Rocha every year for the last 20 years but never here we had 2x2bedroom apartment very spacious clean and tidy not well equipped but im on holiday so I aint cooking we had a cuppa and a slice of toast . A bit like stepping back in time with the décor but you live with that for value for money and location 5 mins from main strip 10 from beach so if your wife thinks shes Mrs Bucket don't take her here. PS Tonis bar underneath the smallest bar with a massive welcome some great laughs in there.

We stayed in a studio apartment. As it was just me and my husband this was perfect for us, it was a good sized studio.
The decor is dated and a little drab but fine. There is a 2 ring hob and a cooker and that is it as regards appliances in the kitchen, no toaster, kettle, etc.
The building in general could do with a freshening up and being brought up to date but for the cheap price you pay it is good.
It was late April to early May so it was not very hot, and for that reason we did not use the pool but it looked clean and a decent size.
You do not have a view of the beach but it is only a 5 minute walk to the beach and all the restaurants/pubs/shops/etc.
The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful and anything we asked they were more than happy to help (we needed extra pillows, the cooker stopped working & they had technicans in the next morning to replace it, and general enquiries, etc).
It was quiet when we were there but still had plenty to do. The beach is lovely and I would definitely go back to Praia Da Rocha and Sol Monte apartments

i stayed in the hotel just last week with my partner & son. we arrived at 11 it was very run down from the outside (like the scene in the inbetweeners movie) as we got in side it was very dark & dated!! The receptionist was lovely! when we arrived in the room was a 2bed apartment it was huge but very dated again the porch doors in both the rooms wouldnt close properly so if we needed to leave the room we would have close the shutters which was annoying and kept breaking!!when.we came back from having a look around the strip(which is beautiful & same with the beach..the only down full was every second person asking do u want smoke or cocaine & tryna drag you in to the restaurant )we seen the hotel picked up abit but it was about 100 young people drinking & partying at the pool so we didn't feel safe goin Down with our son..the lifts are hilarious like a box wit a door and there was only one cause the group of young Portuguese broke the other one!! we decided to make food in the room but i keep getting a shock of the hob so couldn't use that ..than we were goin to have a shower but no hot water..this time we were fuming & hungry &bored cause our telly was broke!! we asked to be moved to a different room which after a hrs they moved us it was still dated but alto better..the hob worked & we had hot water.. i deffo recommend this to a young group because you could break windows & the staff wouldn't say nothing..so when they tried charging the young crowds when they were leaving it was there own fault because they never stopped them.making noise!! i taught praia do roche was a beautiful are & the hotel was good and near &staff were nice(abit too nice to the young crowds) but they really need to update it or put a match to it!! overall good holiday when we weren't in the hotel!!!!

I have just got back from Solmonte apartments with my boyfriend and two friends. We shared a two bedroom apartment which was plenty of room for 4 of us! All three reception staff we met were polite and lovely and on our last day we wasn't getting picked up until 2pm (checkout is 12pm) and the receptionist let us stay in our apartment until 2pm as she said the room wasn't needed and it didn't cost us a penny extra! The cleaners come twice a week (can't remember what days) and we're very polite when my friends met them. The apartment had everything we needed for cooking, brushing up sand and even a mop if you need it and a sofa bed, extra blankets and cushions. If you run out of toilet roll, just ask the receptionist and they will get some for you....nothing is too much trouble for these people! Yes the apartments are a little dated but who cares, its a very clean place that is all that matters! If your someone who is picky and snobbish about what your apartment/room is decorated like then go somewhere your going to pay the earth for to do the same thing in SLEEP!! The only problem I had with the room was our bed squeaked when my partner tossed and turned at night for the first few nights but then it was fine or I got used to the squeak! Pools are very clean and nice to cool down in! There is Bar Sol open all day and Tony's bar opened (in April) about 3pm, not sure if this changes when the hotel becomes busier or not. These apartments are 5 minute walk away from the main strip of supermarkets, money exchange, gift shops, bars and restaurants on the sea front. It was our first time in the Algarve, Portugal and I will certainly be returning and will gladly use Solmonte apartments again! It was quite peaceful around Praia da Rocha during our stay as the holiday season hasn't properly started! I have been told by a few people we met whilst in Portugal told us Praia da Rocha does get nosy when the holiday season gets busier.

we went here in august and it was low on brits being a portuguise hoilday time, we found the accomodation very cheap and cheerful, we had a view of the road which we didnt find a disturbance at night. their was no kettle and the toaster didnt work, the fridge had to be shut with a kick, and we had to hold the shower up with a hair band. we only had clean towels once we had to ask for the rest. the cleaners were good at emptying the bins, but litrelly cleaned around everything .

the lifts were adequate and the POOL WAS FREEZING ALL DAY, it was kept claen and tidy and most of the sunbeds were broke but the grass was comfy. TONY;S BAR is very lively and made everyone welcome and did excellent burgers, the hotels bar is well run and friendly it also opens earlier.

REALLY NEEDS UPDATING AND MONEY SPENT ON IT. GOOD LOCATION TO BE IN
