“Excellent local food and atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2014

Visited with a group of 30 walkers. Excellent service and food in an authentic Portuguese restaurant. Choice of several local dishes including ribs in a vegetable stew. Service was extremely good with a continual supply of food and drinks.

“Christmas Eve lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

Arrived at A Charrette about half past two on Christmas Eve. Only a few locals were there drinking espressos at the bar. We were welcomed by a very efficient staff member who said lunch was available and we chose a table- no other diners. Chose an excellent wine , the cheapest of three suggested by our waiter and at only 10 euros, it was great value. My husband chose the monkfish and rice dish, a very tasty type of soup/stew and I opted for veal skewer, served with fries. A very pleasing experience and perfect food, even though we realized we must have been the last customers before closing for Christmas. Atmospheric restaurant. Only thing missing was some background music- a bit quiet with us as only customers.

“Good basic food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2013 via mobile

I had the lamb stew, we shared a salad to start and my wife had an omelette. All very good. The place was suggested by the information office. The cabbage dish was on the daily menu and if I had read the reviews beforehand I would have tried it as something more local. A reliable choice for lunch.

“Excellent authentic local food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

I had the cabbage stew which is authentic local produce. Tender, fatty pork and black pudding with potatoes and cabbage. Delicious.

My partner had rice and beans (which is actually rice, beans, pork). We shared them both.

Both meals were very tasty. Large to huge portions for what we had (seems to be something all places we ate at shared in this region). For pudding we had carob tart. The food here was excellent, the best we experienced in Monchique area.

“A Charette”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

Well worth a visit. Go to the square in Monchique, turn towards the hill at the back and take the narrow road upwards on the right of the 'bus station. At the top continue for a little way and then take the left fork. The Restaurant is on the right.

One of my sons had a veal cutlet which was tasty but a bit tough! Another had the lamb stew which was good, and my black pork chop (grilled) was excellent. The house wine was very full-bodied. We had two traditional dom rodrigos and a good chocolate mousse.
