“Great hotel, just don't bother with half-board”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2010

We spend 8 days here as part of our honeymoon. I had mentioned it was our honeymoon and it was lovely when we found a bottle of sparkling wine when we got to our room. I think they also upgraded us to a superior room as it was very big and spacious and seemed to have a larger balcony than some of the other rooms.

Room - Spacious with modern decor and it was great having a fridge and cooking facilities. Good air conditioning in room and lounge.

Facilities - Nice pool area with plenty of sun loungers. The bar and cafe were relatively expensive but not too bad. Couple of computers in the 'Internet room' which cost €3 for an hour. Free table tennis and (paid) games room.

Staff - Knowledgeable, helpful and polite.

Food - Breakfast was fine and plentiful but the evening meals offered a limited choice (very poor for vegetarians) and became repetitive. Given that you can get set menus in many of the Lagos restaurants for €10 or less, I would n't recommend half board.

Location - 10-15 mins walk into Lagos centre down a bit of hill. There were a few bars and restaurants just outside the hotel and small supermarket 200m down the road. The walk back from town did become a bit tiresome when we were heading back in the midday sun but was fine of an evening after a couple of cocktails! Location was very good for the lovely small beaches around the headland (Praia de Dona Ana, Praia de Batata etc.).

Overall an excellent stay, highly recommended.

I just came back from a week vacation in this hotel. Thanks for all their staffs for the wonderful.

We got a spacious modern apartment with a view to the swimming pool. This air conditioned appartment was cleaned eveyday, the kitchenette was well equipped.

The hotel has a nice swimming pool and enough sunbeds for everbody! The best part is the gym, so spacious, nice instructors, good aerobic classes and all kinds of massages. Locals go to this gym too. A truly gem!

Not to mention a huge free parking riht accross the hotel.

No minus points for this hotel

Headlines:
Don't go to here if you find walking hard or with a buggy, 10 mins down hill to town under the N125 with stairs or a long way down a hill on the main road, Taxis' to town forget it you will wait over half an hour for pick up but they are great back from town, the little train is great but its a bit pricey at 2.5 euros for a day ticket but still more fun with kids eh!
The hotel is VERY clean and the maid comes every day and changes towels and bedding, is rubbish they don't do pool towels!

DO NOT BOOK THE FOOD AT THE HOTEL, IS POOR AND PEOPLE WERE EATING OUTSIDE, 2 star food no where near 4 star expectations, although breakfast was 'ok' you can buy lovely brekkie stuff 200 metres away and you won't have to drag yourself out of bed to go down for canned fruit, there was a lovely fruit salad one day out of 10! You can really save hundreds on your hols doing it yourself.
Also get your drinks from down the road will save you loads e.g. 60 cents for a can of pop compared to 2.5 euros in the hotel!
There are fab places to eat in town 10 mins away and there is lots of choice, do not be duped into half board as an easy option with kids, 4 star it isn't! Some people we met ended up paying for food in town instead! Only advice is avoid the Dy(nasty) upstairs Chinese in town - bloody awful and this is based on 3 people's opinions from those I asked, best place Taverna Do Lagos - went there twice!
The comments about the staff on here are crap they are nice enough, there is an older woman who just doesn't smile but she is polite enough, guy tutted when my hubby complained about the internet but he was nice rest of time, and when we asked for a kettle and told other people to do the same one arrived straight away, each room should have a kettle they don't cost that much and there is plenty of other equipment in the little kitchen area so it seems odd there isn't one.
Travel Republic led me to believe we would get a pool facing room, wrong! However, they did give us a great clothes airer to compensate the view of the car park and I guess it was quieter and more private than facing the pool! The apartment is huge and has two TVs so you can watch in bed when kids asleep if you want! Plenty of room for 4 and the bed settee is great standard.
Safe charges, you would not expect to pay anything at 4* they should upgrade to keypad safes which would be free, another money spinner eh!
Internet access, we demanded a refund of this as we had an iPad and 3 iphones and you could only connect for 5 mins on a weak connection then it dropped back to the log in screen, and you could only connect in the pool area - basically the WiFi is pants! Think they make more money out of the hotel internet room at 1 euro for 15mins eh!?
Overall I would stay there again and Lagos is lovely but maybe in a villa next time ;-)

Just come back from this hotel. Booked at the last minute. Loved the hotel. Service was great - particularly the Reception staff. Rooms cleaned daily. Pool area was great for the kids and ours just lived in the pool for most of the holiday. (Hello Sophie and Mathew!) Entertainment was good - watch out for the Parrot Show where they will take a photo of your child with the parrot on their shoulder and charge you 10 euros to buy it at the end! Near the hotel there is a good restaurant called Pirate where staff were friendly and food good. Avoid Triangulo next door. Will definately go back there next year.

Once again Tripadvisor has come up trumps for me! Read the reviews and decided to go for it. Stayed in a one-bedroom apartment for 8 nights. The hotel/apartments were very clean and well maintained. It only seemed to be half full so there was never any problem getting a sunbed - I mean never - no matter what time of the day. There were two outdoor pools and one indoor pool. We were also told when we checked in that we had one free spa treatment each day which we didn't use so cannot comment. There was also free use of the gym.

The hotel was only about a 10 minute walk downhill to the old town. Have previously stayed in the Marina Club Suite Apartments and actually preferred the Aqualuz - although to be honest would prefer the marina area but it didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the holiday.

There is a poolside bar area which was very good and a games room and internet room available for a small fee.

As previously stated in another review they do not supply a kettle so brought a travel kettle with me as I need my coffee! There is no oven - only a two ring burner which was sufficient as we do not eat in whilst on holiday. We just use the kitchen for breakfast and lunch so it wasn't a problem but might be if you intend making a full dinner. There is a small supermarket around the corner (about 5 minutes) from the hotel and a Spar about 8 minutes (downhill). The spar had more variety and was cheaper than the nearby supermarket.

Lagos (this is our third time here) is filled with some lovely restaurants but I would particularly recommend O Galeao (Rua da Laranjeira) which was a typical portuguese restaurant. Bit hard to find but if you can find the Only Fools and Horses bar walk straight past uphill, turn left past a cocktail/karaoke bar and then right - it will be right there! Everything is very laid back and chilled out - two eldery chefs just taking their time. It was wonderful. Great veg and potatoes and wonderful steaks. You could have chips if you wished. Another good restaurant was D'Henrique on the main strip near Bon Vivant cocktail bar.

All in all would highly recommend these apartments - especially if you can get a good deal.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our studio apt was very nice and spacious and was cleaned daily, complex was spotless. It was lovely overall and in a very quiet location. On a small note, there was no kettle for those who like tea and our 2 ring hob didn't work properly so we couldn't use it, otherwise everything was fine. We will definitely come back at some stage and will recommend it to others.

We stayed at the Aqualuz in a studio room and thought it was a great hotel. The facilities were great with a lovely pool and decking area, well equipped gym (free for guests), restaurant, bar and rooftop sun terrace. The rooms face onto the pool area and have good sized balconies. Inside, the rooms are better than in most hotels of this type and deserves its 4* rating. The reception and gym staff were all very friendly and helpful.
The location is good being mid-way between the old town and beaches.
I only have 2 negatives: 1) The air con unit was on the balcony and was quite noisy on a night. I didn't hear anyone elses though so it may have just been ours. 2) there was no oven, just a hob and microwave, which makes it difficult to cook a good meal. However, this didn't bother us as there are some great restaurants in Lagos!
