“Good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

Nice roomy apartment. Good service and friendly staff. The swimming pool is fantastic! It is a little isolated from the town center but there are a few restaurants nearby. Breakfast is good but ask for coffee from the bar instead of the machine in the breakfast area. English spoken. A bank at 200 meters and a small supermercado also about 200 meters away also. It is showing its age a little but generally well kept up and comfortable.

Stayed at the Aqualuz for a short break in early October. It was perfect, quiet at end of season and very hot. The apartment was a good size - comfy and well kept. I would have preferred one big bed, instead of two singles pushed together, but that's a minor point. And the shower worked well! (that's definitely a major plus). The food and service at the pool bar were excellent - have an omelette - they were lovely. A walk of under ten minutes takes you into Lagos centre where there are lots of restaurants to choose from, and apparently beaches were only a short walk too (though I failed to move from my sun lounger to find them). Do give consideration to the transfer from Faro. It's only really a fifty minute drive, but the shared shuttle transfer I had booked took a total of three hours to get there. And didn't even materialise for the return trip. A taxi is much quicker (more expensive obviously) but does save precious holiday time.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

Stayed at the Aqualuz for a week at the beginning of October 2012 on a self catering basis. We arrived quite late, as the transfer from Faro was a horrendous 3 hours. We were told it should have been about half that time. The girl at reception was very pleasant and spoke great English. She provided us with details of the hotels facilities and also a local map showing the route to the town and where the local supermarkets were (5 min. walk). Our room was on the 4th Floor (highest floor), only two floors up from reception, which is on street level.

The room was great, a decent sized bedroom with twin beds pushed together, plus a TV and mini safe in the room. You need to pay for the safe lock and also leave a deposit. The bathroom was a decent size, it had a bath with shower plus a separate glassed off area with a door which contained the toilet and bidet. The sink had a full size mirror. Maid service was daily and the towels were changed daily.

The living room had a large sofa, a flat screen TV, a dining table with 4 chairs and a kitchen area with all the usual stuff. Everything was clean and serviceable. A great feature was the 4 sliding glass doors to the outside balcony, which looked onto the hotel's two outdoor pools. They ran the full length of the living room (about 20').

Facilities in the hotel included a nice bar which was never busy and had great service. You received a voucher for a welcome port, which you could use at this bar and at any time during your stay. There are two indoor pools and a spa but we never used them. We never ate in the hotel as there is no need, the food in Lagos was superb. The hotel has WiFi but only in the bar and reception area but we had problems connecting to it most of the time. The two outdoor pools have loads of sunloungers and there's never a problem getting any. Not a huge amount of kids around either, so it was never noisy. The bar at the pool was reasonably priced with half price beer during their happy hours.

The hotel is on a hill and the walk to the town centre is around 10 minutes. Great going down but a bit of a drag getting back at night. However, we found a local cafe near the local Spar about halfway along the route which served great coffee and had free WiFi with a great connection. We used it quite a bit and it made the journey back quite pleasant.

Lagos is great. We used tripadvisor to find restaurants and cafes and they were all superb. 'Mullens' and 'No Patio' are two to look out for. Even on the main drag, you might pay a little more but overall, we never had a bad meal.

We would recommend this hotel for couples and families. Quiet location and a taxi ride to the town centre we were told, would cost about 5/6 Euros.

Lagos has a lot going for it but don't expect any big supermarkets, you need to get a train or bus to Portimao for that. Buses leave every hour from the main Lagos depot and trains not so frequent but cheap (around 3 Euros per person for a return ticket).

We enjoyed our holiday in Lagos and we would recommend the Aqualuz hotel as a good base as long as you are happy to do a bit of walking.

Just spent a week in the Aqualuz Suite from October 10th and found it a great hotel. we had booked a studio apartment but on arrival we were upgraded to a spacious 1 bedroom apartment.

The maids visited every day to change towels and bedding, the balcony gave us a great view over the pool area and the reception and bar staff were very helpful and friendly.

Another review mentioned a 25 minute walk into town? It certainly takes no more than 10 and the same to the numerous beaches dotted between the cliffs.

We were self catering, so didn't eat at the hotel. There is a very nice comfy "Irish bar" but the prices were pretty steep. In fact a pint of beer was double the price of what you pay in town, so the bar only got our custom for one drink on one night. Shame, because it's nice.

The hotel was only about 30% full during our stay so there was never a problem with sun loungers around the pool. In fact Lagos in general was very quiet, even though the weather was terrific.

If we return to Lagos in the future, and i suspect we will, we will certainly be looking to stay at this hotel.

Stayed at the Aqualuz appartments last week, booked as a very last minute holiday with my partner for some early autumn sunshine.
Staff are friendly and relaxed and speak good English. The apartment complex is a good size with two nice pools (quite cold but not as cold as the sea!). Very clean and modern.

All rooms would appear to have a balcony and face the pool area. We were on the 4th floor above receptions area and had sun on our balcony from morning right through until around 4/5pm which was lovely.

The apartment was an excellent size with small galley kitchenette which suited us fine. There was no kettle so requested one and it was sent up the next morning (we arrived at 10pm). Flat screen TV in the living room and old style tv in the bedroom (we didn't use).
The bedroom had two single beds pushed together, which was fine for us. The beds are very firm, but I love that and found them very comfortable and slept very well the whole week we were there.
We noticed that there were a few tiny ants running around the place, but certainly didn't bother us too much.

In terms of location, the apartments are just on the outskirts of Lagos town, which means its quiet at night. It takes about 10 minutes to walk into town in you follow the map that the hotel give you. We found a sneaky little short cut through a small underpass (using GPS on the old Iphone) so really it was only 5 minutes to the town. to walk all the way to the water or Marina area you are talking a 20 minute walk at least.

One thing to note is that coming back from town to the apartments the walk is up a bit of an incline. This certainly didn't bother us and we enjoyed the exercise (we both keep fit), but for some it may not suit. I believe that you can get taxi's if required and they are not expensive.

In summary, these apartments are clean, spacious, in a good location with a great pool area. I imagine in the height of summer there may be difficulty finding enough sun loungers but as we visited in low season, this was not a problem for us.

We had a lovely holiday and really enjoyed the relaxed feel of Lagos. Lots of good restaurants to choose from, some beautiful beaches and really fantastic weather for the second week of October.

We would stay again at Aqualuz. If you are thinking of booking go for it! You won't be disapointed.

Really enjoyed this Hotel, The food was great and whilst off season it was well tended, smart and the staff were excellent. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel, It is very clean, well kept, and the rooms have everything you need. Its close enough to the town and beach. A really great spot. The only negative and its really a tiny one is that the watre in the pools was a tad cold. Mind you you get used to it..
It is quite a hike from Farro airport so try to get a direct transfer.

Spent two nights with a very large group at the AquaLuz in October 2012. I was very happy with the rooms, they are large suites with a living room, small kitchenette, nice bathroom, and a two-bed bedroom. There is also a trundle bed in the living room. Our room also had two porches with tables that faced the interior of the hotel, where there are two very nice pools and a restaurant. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Wifi is free in the reception area (very unreliable connection), or you can pay for it on an hourly/daily rate for room access. Did not do this, but it seems from other reviewers like that wifi is not much better. Additionally, the layout of the hotel is mildly confusing, but overall I had a great stay and would recommend this hotel. It's also just a quick 10 minute walk from the beach and city center.
