My fiancée and I stayed at this hostel when we were visiting from Seville, Spain. We came into Lagos by train, and were able to catch a cab from the train depot to the hostel. It ended up being less than a ten minute walk, but we were unaware at the time of arrival.
The hostel is simply great. We are in our early 20's and have traveled a great deal in Europe and Mexico as well as Hawaii, and always stay in hostels. And to me, this hostel is not only clean and well maintained, but for a little extra cash split between two people, you can stay in the private upstairs two bedroom in the corner. It has not only a private bath, but a private balcony as well, which overlooks the city. For $15 Euro a night it can't be beat.
The open airy patio seating in the center of the hostel is unique and a great place to hang out. The morning breakfast is moderate, but also included in your price...and as far as hostel breakfasts go it is pretty good. Croissants, coffee, jam hard-boiled eggs, OJ, etc.
The public kitchen is a fun way to make the most of your hostelling experience. We cooked a couple meals there together, and had a great time. Dishes were clean and the kitchen wasn't too busy. The hostel also had a TV room and internet access for a fee.
Overall, Lagos is a great place, small town charm and great little restaurants and shops to wander in and out of. The size of the town is quite small, but the beaches are decent and the boat tours are amazing through the rock caves. I would definitely recommend this hostel to any traveler looking for a cheap place to stay, without compromising any charm.
