“Pure relaxation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

We have just returned from The Cascade Resort...wow. We all (two adults and two children), had a perfect holiday. I really didn't want to come home! Our one bedroom apartment was clean and very well equipped with beautiful views. We were half board at the hotel restaurant which served up fantastic food each night. All the staff were very helpful...true five star service. The weather was perfect, the local beach was stunning and the boat trip to see the dolphins out at sea was worth every penny. Check out the local wines in the supermarket in Lagos...for less than 2 euros there are some really good dry whites! We hope to come back for another week of relaxation next year. Thank you Cascade for a perfect break!

Wonderful breakaway at this luxurious hotel, even though at present it is unfinished. Superb quality furnishings / toiletries / etc. The staff are a credit to the hotel. Breakfasts are excellent, extensive choice, - nothing tinned here!
Visit outside main holiday period meant hotel was very quiet, which was fine by us. Walked to town, or to nearby beach restaurant in the evenings for big choice of eateries and livlier atmosphere.

Room Tip: I think the pool view rooms face south west and have lovely large balconies.

We were a little suprised by the layout and quietness of the resort on arrival and would normally have booked a room in the hotel rather than an apartment (which was the best room option offered on Travel Republic at the time of booking). The apartment meant a short walk to the main hotel, but in beautiful sunshine who cares!

Just a couple of comments in respect of my personal situation - female and only 5'2" - there was no full length mirror in the apartment and the bathrom mirrors allowed only a head and shoulders view for me. A word with reception and within a short space of time, a free standing mirror appeared - well done. Also, nowhere to make up with good light and a place to sit. However, minor considerations in the scale of things.

The apartment otherwise was beautifully appointed with quality fittings and furnishings, including dishwasher, washing machine and a good selection of crockery and kitchen wares. Being out of season, the pool area serving the apartments was often completely empty, so provided a very peaceful and relaxing setting to chill out. Pool was cold, but seems to be the norm for the Algarve.

The staff provided the highest level of service with lots of smiling faces and nothing too much trouble. Pedro and Andrea would happily run us to Lagos whenever we needed. Unlike a previous reviewer, we found the resort car often available, but perhaps due to an early October stay.

Breakfast was a buffet with excellent choices, but 'the' hot food only warm - again not unusual in my experience. We dined in Moods restaurant on three occasions and the food and service were excellent although not speedy.

Yes, you pay for 5 star service and that was exactly what was provided.

We actually enjoyed our visits to Lagos old town and the harbour, finding a shorter route on foot taking around half an hour for a slow walker. Yes, there are lots of British toursts, but we met many other nationalities too. The town has some amazing architecture and exploring was a delight. The boat trip around the caves was a great experience (try to go when the water is calm). The beaches we visited (Ana and Mos) were lovely. A great holiday, helped by very good weather.

We have visited the hotel before, the end of last june 2012.
This time it was better, due to the weather, about 27 à 28 degrees.
The wind was sometimes cold, the swimmingpool was very cold, it was a pity.
They changed a few things, the matrasses on the sunbeds were not so very comfortable as before, but still good.
The breakfast is of a superior quality, a lot of fruits.
But the main important thing is the relaxing atmosphere, no music at the pool, in the evening silence, so relaxing.
I will hope to return next year to this beautiful hotel.

My husband and I just visited the Cascades Resort in Lagos Portugal. The resort and location was well worth the trip. It was off season so the resort or beach was not crowded. The resort was well designed, with wonderful restaurants and amazing service. There were two Pedro's that went above and beyond to ensure our stay was memorable. We felt very taken care of and spoiled during our stay.

The beach is unlike any that I have seen before, it was untouched and not commercial, which is why we loved it.

This hotel is worth the splurge for a romantic break!

Recently stayed for 5 nights at the hotel. When we arrived we were a little taken a back. We thought we had gone to the wrong place. There were no people or cars to be seen anywhere. This was partly because all the hotel cars are parked under ground and, being out of season, many of the villas were closed up. It felt a little strange. Once inside the hotel that changed. There was life after all.

The hotel reminds me very much of a hotel you would find in Dubai. No expense spared and ozzing of luxury finishes. Lots of marble and wide spaces. The room was great. I have stayed in many hotels round the world and I'm normally dissappointed in my hotel room. I often change rooms a few times but not this time. The rooms are generous in size and the bathrooms are almost as big as the bedroom with sepearate shower and double sinks. All kitted out in marble so nice touch of luxury. The towels and linen are quality and the turn down service at night all point to a hotel wanting to deliver. The rooms are decorated in four styles - African, Asian, European and another (think south american). Make sure you look into this and request a room as you may otherwise be dissappointed as they look very different. We went for African and this was nice - dark wood, wood floors, comtemporary feel. Good air con and black out blinds so makes for good sleep. Only one issue was they seemed to have a problem with flys everywhere in the corriodors and balcony's and for that reason we had to keep our balcony door closed at all times.

The communal areas of the hotel are also very good. Really lovely pool. Great cumfy beds. Nice and quiet so if you want to chill and read a book this is a great hotel. The gym is excellent with good modern equipment and staff. We did the health check which was worth while.

We had breakfact in the hotel. It was standard for what you would expect. At times service was a little slow and confused as I think there weren't enough staff at peak times. We also had lunch every day. Very good lunch menu and food was very high standard. Again, service sometimes a little slow but when on holiday thats not such an issue. It seems there isn't enough outside sititng space and too much inside space. Inside is dark and not very attractive so they could have created more outside space in my view. It may be an issue if you go when the hotel is busy as we went when it was quiet. Prices at lunch were reasonable for a hotel of this standard.

They have still to finish the hotel off and it does show. Golf course still being completed. Looks OK but nothing to shout about. The shops etc still to go in. For that reason the hotel lacked a bity of soul but that's often what you get in big hotel resorts. The upside is you get the facitilites and space.

The staff were on the whole very good. Some very helpful staff and clearly want to make an effort.

In the evening we got a taxi to town - only 5 euro each way. The hotel state they have a car but it didn't ever seem to be available when we asked so we just took the taxi as it was not expensive and easy to get one.

Finally, the place. Lagos is not a place I would go back to. Too many Brits! When I go on holiday I prefer a mix of nationalities and local touches. While the old town architecture is beautiful the place feels like a big british tourist trap. I hate that. I guess however that is why there are so many hotels which means Cascade has to offer luxury at affordable price to compete. If therefore you can put that aside, and just want a hotel in the sun with a touch of luxury, then cascade ticks the box. It's not a "best hotel ever" place but it is a good quality and safe option.
