Quinta Bonita is lovely. It is a traditional Portuguese house that has been lovingly and sensitively expanded and renovated by Chantelle and Fraser. You do need a hire car and the drive from Fago took us about an hour and twenty minutes by the main A22 (which is not like a motorway at all). You can enjoy the scenery whilst not seeing another car for miles! On arriving at Quinta Chantelle made us fresh afternoon tea which was very welcome after the journey. The rooms are spacious, beautifully decorate, furnished well and it feels luxurious. The lounge area has an honesty bar and a wide selection of books and magazines where you can just be comfortable and relax. The pool was heated so we could have a swim even in November! Because we had the hire car we could explore the area and visited Monchique in the mountains (but chose a very foggy day to trek to the view point!), Marmelete, Aljesur, various coves and beaches on the west coast and most of the gorgeous little bays and fishermen's villages between Lagos and Sagres on the south coast. You need to take your time though because you could spend a whole day at each such is the scattering of little bars and restaurants and the enthralling scenery. I think our holiday was all the more enhanced for going out of season - yes, some days had a slight chill in the air and the trek to the mountains marred by the fog, but we could enjoy these little gems and explore places that in the height of season would be, in my opinion, spoilt by the crowds. I loved every minute of this holiday and can recommend it in or out of season. I can also recommend Fraser's special breakfasts (espcially the pancakes with fruit and maple syrup) and the treatments available (I had a pedicure, manicure and a head, shoulder and face massage by a locally based English therapist - fabulous). Quinta Bonita is a very special place.
