“Outstanding hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2012

My husband and I travelled to Vila Gale Lagos for our first anniversary. We had high hopes for this hotel from previous reviews we had read but this hotel exceeded our expectations beyond imagination. Lets start with the hotel building itself. It's big, spacious, very clean with tastefull deco. The rooms are very big and extremely clean with an amazing power shower!! This hotel should be rated 5 stars, especially when you take the high level of customer service into account. All staff were extremely welcoming, happy to go that extra mile and were always attentive to our needs. The sea front view is amazing so try and request this when making a booking. Also check out the hotels Satsanga spa for some pure luxury.

A special mention has to be given to Ricardo Rodregus who excelled in his service to us. He assisted my husband in organising several surprises for me for our anniversary, including arranging a horse and carriage ride around Lagos, flowers for our room,  a bottle of champagne on ice and an absolutely delicious tirramusu waiting for us on our last night. He also recommended local places to eat such as Choco Ze, a hidden gem and only 2km away serving local cuisine at a reasonable price.

Local sites and beaches we would recommend include the following:

Duna beach - this is the hotels local beach located behind the pool area. This beach is simply beautifull with soft powdery sand and sparkling turquoise water. It's like something out of a travel brochure.

Sagres & Salema were our two favourite small towns to visit with idilic beaches and fresh sea food. We recommend trying the local prawns and sardines!

For something a bit different why not visit Estonbar which is a popular place amongst locals for a relaxing picnic by a quaint lake and access to BBQ facilities - just remember to take some coal!!

Finally do not leave until you have eaten at the hotels al a carte restaurant. For pasta lovers you do not want to miss the Spaggetti Nero with shrimp. The flavours, presentation and texture of this dish was simply outstanding. Thanks to Susanne (our friendly waitress) for highly re commending this dish to us.

For anyone who really wants to explore Lagos, experience the culture and save a few bob on taxis (yes it's around €6 from the hotel to the local town which can add up quickly!) we would highly recommend hiring a car for the duration of your stay. Just remember to stay on the right side of the road!! Literally!

Another great Vila Galé Hotel.
I was there for the Annual Meeting of my Office, we were about 150 people, and everything was quite perfect. The working area and the leisure area were fantastic.
The Hotel is very modern and clean, very close to te beach.
Located in a quiet area.
The rooms are lovely and stylish.
Pool area is very very nice.
Great Breakfast!
Loved it!

We stayed with two children in a suite and had a fantastic time. The rooms are lovely and the bedroom and bed was enormous. We had a sea view room, but to be honest all the rooms seemed to have good views. We had two very large balconies, which unfortunately did not get any sun in the evening, best to avoid the inside right if you would like late sun. The outside pool is massive, but was icy cold when we went ( April) so nobody was swimming! The sea was quite warm though and the beach lovely. The restaurant was good, not a massive choice but plenty to cover what we needed. The children's playground is excellent. It is set quite far away from the main pool so lots of walking backwards and forwards involved!
Overall we had a great time and are thinking of going back.

Room Tip: There is a big supermarket a 2 min drive away

We stayed at the vila Gale for seven nights ( 8th to 15th of May), this is our third return visit to the hotel. This stay we got a great rate on Travelrepublic.com and were delighted to be upgraded to a pool / sea view.

If you get the weather, which we did I can't think of a better hotel to stay in. The pool has to be seen to be believed and the Meia Praia beach just across the road is stunning.

Breakfast is great, plenty of choice - did not have dinner as the choice of restaurant in Lagos is just to good to pass.

We have always stayed out of high season so don't know how everything would operate when the Hotel is at full capacity which is the true test - but I can't fault the it.

Room Tip: It really is worth going for a pool view.

Would highly recommend this hotel. Stylish, clean, great staff etc. Not too far a stroll from the town and cheap in a taxi if you don't feel like walking. Beside a gorgeous beach, and has a fantastic pool area. Would certainly return. Only thing I didn't like was the additional charges for the gym.

Very sleek and modern hotel which has high standards of cleanliness in every area. It has a vast reception area, in fact it is big in everyway.
We were greeted by very helpful staff and shown to our room which was everything I previously requested. A quiet room on the top floor, we were on the end of the right hand wing and had a panoramic view of the town, and all of the beach. We heard slight noises from the next rooms mostly a baby crying, we would say that being in an area surrounded with lots of people is not going to be noise free.
We only had breakfast in the hotel, there was plenty to choose from and of good quality. The dining room decor is very classy, we found it to be half empty during our stay. On arrival we paid E22 each for an evening meal, the salads were good, main course was poor and desserts not good. For that price you can get some excellent meals in the town.
We were there for ten days and hotel was quiet, it was so peaceful around the pool, plenty of sunbeds to be had. The pool area is huge so even in busy times there should be ample sunbeds. The pool is unheated, after a couple of days the temperature soared and we were glad to get in the water to cool off.
We ate out every evening so did not use the bar very often, when we did we found the staff pleasant, maybe a little rushed at times but as they had other clients to serve it wasnt a problem. The hotel group produces their own wine, and the house red was excellent, a glass was only E2.80 same price for the the white. You could buy a bottle for around E4 to take away.
We had a few lunches at the pool bar, they were nicely presented and huge portions, we started to share one portion. We went to the dunas beach bar across the road but found it to be expensive, it is in a nice setting looking onto the beach.
We walked into the town each evening, it was good to get some excercise, it takes 15mins to the marina and a further 10-15mins to the town depends on were you are going. There is a bus which passes the hotel, did not find out the times, it would be good if the hotel could have a timetable in reception for those who wanted to use it. We got a taxi back, there was always plenty and cost E5.25.
We visited our daughter who was on holiday with her family, we got the bus to Albufeira, found service on time and didnt have any problems getting back. Neither of us had been to Albufeira before and managed to meet up. Thanks to the forum on Lagos I got all of the info from them, very helpful including maps and instructions. If we had more time we would have had trips up the coast on the bus/train.
We would certainly stay in this hotel again, excellent!

Room Tip: High floor, rooms on the end have best view and are quieter. Did not like rooms looking onto pool a...

We enjoyed our 4 night stay at the hotel - it is very modern, clean and felt really spacious.
Pros - massive swimming pool with plenty of sunloungers, good choice for breakfast, nice spa (though think it is cheeky charging for the use of the gym/indoor pool), friendly staff, close to the beach, well maintained areas, free upgrade to pool view.

Cons - some staff didnt understand english or made any attempt to understand which can be frustrating when ordering food/drinks, can hear neighbours a lot, far from the main town, disappointing & costly cocktails at the pool bar.

Overall we enjoyed our stay here and would probably return.
