“Fantastic place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2013

We stayed here in a privatly owned villa. Staff are helpful everywhere is clean and tidy pools are clean kids need 2 be supervised as there are no lifeguards. The fish restaurant to the right of rocha brava is the best with franceso he is a friendly jolly waiter. 10-15 mins walk to town up and down steep hill they provide a shuttle bus beaches r nice altho be careful going to beach nearby as it has hidden rocks

This village resort is in a secluded part of Carvoeiro a little bit out of town. We stayed in a 2 floor superior house.

Pros
1/ We requested a peaceful room and they kindly located us on the outskirts of the development which was wonderful. Very peaceful with beautiful views. Very relaxing

2/ The resort is on the 6km hiking trail so you can go for a good 5 hour walk along the cliffs, very well recommended

3/ The shop on the resort has everything that you need and is reasonably priced. As per other reviewers, yes, imported goods like Heinz ketchup are expensive but when they have local options reasonably priced then that isn't an issue. They even have gluten free foods!

4/ The staff were helpful.

5/ The quality of the superior accommodation was high. Not 5 star hotel worthy but when you consider the typical apartment or villa to rent in Portugal or Spain this was leaps and bounds ahead of the others with high quality fittings and highly recommended for those who like a bit of comfort.

Cons
1/ If you do go off season then be prepared that there may be some renovation work during the day. It only disturbed us once in 2 weeks so wasn't an issue especially given the pricing of the trip off season.

2/ The walls of the house are a bit thin so the old plumbing can be heard from the neighbouring house. However, this is definitely not "party central" but a relaxation resort so shouldn't be an issue.

Overall, a very enjoyable stay. Would definitely recommend it and would definitely stay again. Many thanks!

Room Tip: 2 floor superior house

This was my 1st time to Portugal and couldn't have picked a better resort to stay in for a relaxing break. The apartment we stayed in was spotless with everything we needed for a self catering holiday with ample space. The coffee shop next to reception was very reasonably priced although the supermarket is very expensive (about £6.50 for a pack of bacon, £3 for a loaf of bread). The resort put on a free bus 3 times everyday (10am, 2pm n 5pm) to Carvoeiro centre with free returns available at 10:10, 14:10 n 17:10 saving quite a bit of money (Taxi is about £6 one way).

This is a great location for a family holiday. It's very busy and the pool gets very busy with towels down on loungers by 10am, our children made friends with others and had a fantastic time. The resort has kids entertainment in the evenings which we all enjoyed, Highlight of the trip was the restaurant outside the resort main gate to the right. Truly fantastic fish. I would return for this alone!! The shop inside the resort is a little expensive.

Just returned from Rocha Brava. We stayed in a 1 bed self catering apartment. Our additional requests that we included on the booking that they do their best to fulfill, but can't guarantee were all met: 1) first floor, 2) a double bed (rather than two singles pushed together) 3) sea glimpses, (sea view rooms are extra, at a cost).

The apartment was large, with a separate kitchen with a washing machine, Barbecue built in to the balcony, and pull down shutters on the bedroom to ensure no light came in. Bed was a good size too, seemed larger than a UK king size. Apartment also had high ceilings which gives a nice feeling of space and also had a real open fire place. Apartment was clean and the cleaners came in everyday but Sunday I think. Everyone we dealt with at the hotel were friendly and polite, no problems sorting out your excursions / boat trips car hire etc. Had dinner a few times in the Coffee shop which was absolutely fine, reasonably priced and good service. The Coffee shop is quite handy if you are self catering for when you arrive or when you check out and don't have any food in your apartment. There is a shop at the resort where you can get a few things to make dinner for your first night maybe and get beers and wine, but you are best off heading out on the road from the resort to Lagoa nearby, on the way your will pass a Lidl, an Intermarche and there is a Jumbo supermarket at Lagoa. The lighthouse restaurant walking distance from the resort is definitely worth a trip too, great fillet steak and excellent value.

Overall, I have no reservations with Rocha Brava, sure you can spend more and go elsewhere, but there is no need to, a great resort at fantastic value.

Having visited Rocha Brava again it is noticeable how the appearance of the gardens and general ambience has improved. The staff have always been helpful and will give guidance on all sorts of enquiries for the area.
Also the new coffee shop and the on site restaurant should be mentioned both being first class.

A truly lovely - if a little rough around the edges - home from home. The Rocha Brava resort seems to be a mixture of privately owned/let and holiday accommodation all rolled together. One lovely big communal pool (really nice) with at least one other smaller pool.

The apartments - we had a two bedroom apartment on the ground floor. Kitchen was the most equipped I've ever stayed in abroad - washing machine, microwave, more utensils than you know what to do with - even a coffee machine. It's all quite old / but spotlessly clean!

The living rooms must have recently had a make over - the sofa was freshly covered with trendy cushions. Likewise the curtains looked brand new. There's even an open fireplace - although don't imagine there's many months of the year you'd need that. The cherry on the cake is the flat screen tv mounted on the wall. A nice touch is that there are a few British channels like E4 - great if you can't cope without your Hollyoaks omnibus fix.

Bedrooms are tired looking but nothing wrong with them - spotlessly clean with nice good quality wooden furniture - again all tired but clean as a whistle. The bedroom windows both have shutters on the outside - so you can really block out the daylight (especially great if like us, you travelled with kids that normally wake up the moment the sun rises!).

The staff at reception were helpful and pleasant.

One hint - avoid using the on site shop. It's nice enough and sure if it's an emergency, great - but expect to pay 30-50% more than you will at shops down near the square.

I believe there's a bus service that runs 3 x daily to the centre - but it run at 1000, 1400, 1700 - and those times didn't really suit us. It's only say 5€ in a taxi - so just get reception to call you one.

I do recommend you head down to the square - just to walk around during the day, on an evening - it's what Carvoeiro is all about.

You'll have a lovely relaxing feel good time at these apartments. No complaints at all!
