“Outstanding hotel property in the heart of the Algarve”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2011

The Hotel Tivoli Carvoeiro in the Algarve is one of those rare hotels where the physical facility, the service staff and the ammenities are all first class. Just to walk into the gorgeous, spacious lobby is breath-taking. But then, one views the pools and the Atlantic Ocean beyond the back of the hotel and it is beyond belief. One thinks one is on a Hollywood set. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated and the buffet breakfast is extravagant. it was a distinct pleasure to have stayed at this 4 star hotel.

My husband and I just returned from 9 days at the Tivoli, we've stayed twice before in 2005 and 2008 and still really enjoyed it. The main attraction is the view, especially from the terrace bar and restaurant, it is just breathtaking, I don't think I could get bored with it, sitting with cocktails early evening watching the sun go down and the amazing scenery before strolling out to dinner, it was a wonderful experience.
I concur the rooms are dated and we heard it may be closed for renovation, but apparently not, the hotel staff would love it to be renovated but it's just having some maintenance done. However, from the occupancy rate when we were there, it's obviously not an issue for the majority of guests, including us. Our rooms have always been a good size, clean with good views and all facilities you need.
Staff were all very helpful and friendly.
The pool was cold but soon warmed up when you got the courage to jump in.
The gym was poor and really does need some money spent on it to satisfy those who want to/need to exercise whilst on holiday. Very basic machines and one not working at all, also no air conditioning whilst we were there, so we went jogging instead, and had some amazing views along the way! Also the gym doesn't open until 0830hrs which is too late for a work out and then get showered and down for a leisurely breakfast..... Breakfasts were in the main good with a good choice, however they do need another toaster when it's busy as it took a long time to toast and you had to queue a lot.... so we ate the lovely bread instead!
Indoor pool was a bit dark and was always empty when we went down to the gym, but if the weather is cold then it's obviously better than not having one.
Lifts were a little temperamental especially from 6th floor down to beach, it was usually quicker to walk.
We ate out every night except the night we arrived and we can honestly say we didn't have a bad meal and we found the prices, especially house wine, really reasonable... and very enjoyable too.
We hired a car and explored a few other areas, there are some beautiful cove beaches nearby. Took a trip to Albufeira and Vilamoura, very large and touristy - the total opposite of Carvoiero, we really hope Carvoeiro does not follow suit.
The hotel is good for everyone of every age although the majority of guest were probably 55+ when we were there. Everyone we saw and spoke to were having a good time like us. We both think for what you pay it's an excellent hotel (we paid €93 prpn B&B mid Sept) but at different times of the year we they do much better deals.
We'll be back again some day for sure.....!

Room Tip: Definitely get a higher floor sea view room, the views are too amazing to miss when you open the cur...

went back to carvoeiro after a 5 year break and stayed in the tivoli again.got a sea view room and the view was to die for. True the rooms are dated but overall the hotel is very clean and the staff very friendly. we were on a b&b and found there was more than enough breakfast to suit all taste. the hotel is on top of a hill with a 10 min walk to the centre which makes it a nice stroll on a summers evening. do not like to return to same holiday destination but enjoyed it just as much as first time and would not rule out going again.

Room Tip: had both sea view and inland view, worth extra to go for sea view

Excellent hotel - friendly staff - superb location.
Stopped B&B as there are many restaurants in walking distance.
Went with EasyJet package - overall really good - no issues whatsoever.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view - balcony views are amazing

I LOVED the hotel & its location & everything about it!
(Though my boyfriend thought the resort was more suited to older people!)
The bedrooms tad bit basic but fine. Make sure to ask for sea-view from level 2upwards, and state 'double' for a couple (we had 2 single beds as a couple!!). The hotel beach is very small (many steps down to it) but I didnt mind as I prefer staying by the pool. 3 computers with internet FREE by receiption area!
Drinks at inside & outside bars bit expensive.
Sunset Dinner at the top of the garden was unreal! costly but worth it :)
Black Runner speed boat trip enjoyable, aswell as 'Slide & Splash' waterpark, and Loule City for its Two types of markets.
Lagos & Sangres bus trip - bit boring!
Highly recommend-Primavera Ristorante Trattoria italian restaurant (not far from Tivoli Carvoeiro) Make booking so not to be disappointed! Also Tia Ilda & TapasBar restaurants both in the town are also real nice. Lunchtime - go to Bar72 for scrumptious Toasted Sandwich!
Dinnertime advice-Try to avoid too many Couverts as we were were too full after them to eat our starter & main course!
FYI -Faro Airport is a disaster on a Sunday for those on chartered package holidays - we were queueing from 11am-1pm,no time for airport shopping or going to the toilet even!!!!
Would go back to Carvoeiro in a heartbeat :) (passed through neighbouring cities & still much preferred Carvoeiro)

Location great for the beaches, bars and restaurants to suit all ages.
Hotel rooms cleaned every day, all the staff very friendly and helpful.
Stayed B&B, plenty of choice at breakfast. Hotel prices abit high for anything else so we ate out every night. Supermarkets only a short walk away.
Fantastic views over the cliffs, didnt get down to the hotel beach because of the steps and our small child. Other beaches are great for the little ones.
Negative comments would be the tired decor in the bathroom. Childrens pool not the best.
Overall would recommend the hotel and its location.

The Tivoli was fantastic. What more can I say - the location - we had a sea view room with uninterrupted views of the Atlantic and the rooms were so clean and bright and spacious. Just below the hotel there was a fabulous private cove with the most fantastic rock formations, lovely little beach - I could have just sat there all day. But of course I didnt - there are such fantastic walks right from the hotel along the cliff edge to other little villages and beaches. The staff were so helpful and courteous - each of them providing information and answers to all our queries. The breakfasts were superb, such an array of fresh and tasty food. Didnt eat at the hotel in the evenings except for the Saturday night when they put on a bbq which was excellent and the setting looking out over the ocean, the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks !!!. Other evenings we went into Carvoeiro itself and there's such an choice of lovely restaurants and all so reasonably priced for the quality of food available. Lovely pool and plenty of loungers. Took some trips by local bus and the driver was so helpful even though he didnt have any English, he got us all the information we needed for connections etc. Fantastic hotel - thanks Tivoli.
