After a fabulous meal at Ele and Ela on Sunday night we chose to dine here. My friend had the meal of the day...pork in mushroom sauce. It was gooey and over cooked. I had steak asked for it medium rare and it came back very well done and tough as old boots. Actually it wasn't a good steak to begin with as it had lots of grissle. I politely told the waitress and she offered me an alternative but as my family and friends...7 of them..had almost finished theirs I was reluctant, however I was assured another meal would be with me in 2 minutes. I chose the BOUEF BOURGIGNON as my husband had it. It arrived in a small casserole dish,( 8 minutes later..I was the only member of our party eating a mains by then )having been taken out of a pot and transferred in to it. There was not a lot of meat. The bourgignon sauce was vile. It tasted as though the 'gravy' had been thickened with gravy browning only. There was no flavour to it, no mushrooms, no bacon..utterly flavourless..quite disgusting actually.
At the start of the evening, they brought out tiny little soup bowls of 'CURRY SOUP' which tasted to me like CHINESE CURRY POWDER mixed with water.. I ate it not wanting to offend my friends who had booked the table but it wasn't very nice. My starter was salmon with green asparagus which was lovely!, they then delivered what looked like pink fizz with a strawberry and that was quite pleasant, I have to say. After my disappointing main course and that of my friend I decided against having a dessert. Those who did said it was AVERAGE.
My husband was not charged for my main but was for my friend's even although she didn't eat it. At no time did the staff enquire 'WHY she didn't eat it.
A thoroughly disappointing night. We won't be back. We do visit Portugal quite often but will be giving this restaurant a wide berth. The place is quaint and quirky and not unpleasant to be in and the staff were pleasant too but all in all a waste of money.
