Just returned yesterday from a week at this hotel. had a really quiet and restful break which is exactly what we hoped for. Superb location, friendly staff and a bonus was the well equipped kitchenette that meant if we were feeling particularly lazy, we didn't have to leave our room to get drinks and snacks. Would recommend Gloria's supermarket and El Grelhador ( next to each other) a 10 minute stroll from the hotel. In particular El Grelhador provide a 3 course menu including a half bottle of wine each for under 10 euros per person. very hospitable host and excellent waiters. We returned there every night!
The beach is just a short stroll and there is a good beach restaurant, excellent food although a bit on the pricy side. Not too crowded in March and it was enjoyable watching the fishing boats return with their catch every day.
We'd love to go back!

“Can't complain”

Pestana Viking Hotel and Resort

Overall, it is a nice hotel in a beautiful location. The lobby is recently updated with modern decor (strange color scheme, though) and all of the public facilities are to a true 4-star standard. The only complaint is that the shape of the hotel (which cannot be helped) really harms the views from each room. Be warned that if you book a sea view room then you will be situated on the side of the building and will have to lean over your balcony at 90-degrees in order to catch a glimpse of the water. Sea-front rooms are the only ones which truly have sea views. We originally booked a sea-view room and were extremely upset upon arrival but complained and received an upgrade the following night (although the upgrade was just to a sea-view suite and not to a sea front room). Nonetheless, if you want a clear view of the sea (and not of trees), then you must book a sea-front room. Also, if you book a regular room, rather than a suite, be prepared for a lack of space.

Brilliant hotel, excellent facilities and polite staff always wanting to help. We are a young couple in our 20's and we found this to be one of the best hotels we have stayed in. The location is lovely, with beautiful views, good choice of food is offered at this hotel. The hotel offers a free bus service to the main area of armacao where all the shops are. Hotel's private beach is beautiful and clean. We booked this hotel on otbeach.com

“Good views and customer servce- avoid the restaurant”

The Pestana is situated perfectly on a cliff with ocean views and a short walk to the beach and a cliffside chapel (where I got engaged). The staff is very friendly and helpful with advice on arranging day trips and dinners. We enjoyed the pool, sauana and spa services, but the jacuzzi was colder than bathwater.

Avoid the hotel restaurant as it is hugely overpriced and the food is terrible. The neighboring towns offer many great restaurants, and we found the service all over Portugal to be simply excellent.

Overall I give this hotel an average rating. Part of the problem was being there in the rainy cold season. A spring or summer travel will most likely have a better opinion.

Do not be undecided when considering this hotel. perfect location, spotlessly clean and lovely staff especially jorge the manager. it is only half an hours walk from the resort centre, we walked it there and back every night through the tree lined villas and apartments. breakfast is perfect and the bar area great for a glass of wine before returning to the lovely room. booked again for 2008.
