Do not be undecided when considering this hotel. perfect location, spotlessly clean and lovely staff especially jorge the manager. it is only half an hours walk from the resort centre, we walked it there and back every night through the tree lined villas and apartments. breakfast is perfect and the bar area great for a glass of wine before returning to the lovely room. booked again for 2008.

This hotel is just perfect for holiday in Algarve. We found that the location of the hotel is perfect for exploring Algarve because it is located between Faro and Lagos but you will need a car. The beach next to the hotel is also one of the best in Algarve. But the higlight for our stay was the room. It was great room, large and facing the ocean. The staff were always helpful, at least during our stay. There are options for dining out within walking distance from the hotel. I would highly recommend this hotel.

The only downside is just they don't have enough space for car parking.

“Great hotel!!”

Pestana Viking Hotel and Resort

We booked via Freedom direct and had no problems at all.

We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis in apartment 843 which is situated just outside the hotel yet still in the grounds. It was a partial sea view room and brilliant. Had a big lounge and dining area, separate kitchen and bathroom and a big double bedroom with loads of storage space.
There was also a big balcony that got the sun most of the day.
Ok, the hotel Pestana Viking. As you go down to it the area isn't what you'd call stunning but isn't bad. The hotel from the outside doesn't look impressive either but don't be put off. Lovely big reception area and the staff there were brilliant - always on hand to answer questions and spoke excellent english.
The breakfast was excellent - a good selection of continental, hot food, fruit, yoghurts, meat and cheese etc etc. Was always loads of food even when we went down at nearly 10.30am one morning!! was served from 7.30-10.30am.
There was a gorgeous pool for the main hotel and a kiddies pool bit next to it, a lovely big indoor pool with water jets and also you could use the steam room and sauna free of charge.
There was also another pool for the apartments which was a great size, cold though as none of the pools are heated outdoors, but once you were in it was fine. There was practically no-one there most of the time!
The beach was absolutely lovely and about a 1min walk down the steps from the apartment. A bit longer on the way up!! There was a restaurant/bar on the beach which was very good - staff lovely and they did excellent sardines!
The italian restaurant on the hotel site was superb - we ate there 3 times as the service was brilliant, the food better and it wasn't too expensive. The pizzas are MASSIVE and you could easily share one between 2 people.
There is a reasonable selection of restaurants nearby, a very nice italian about a 5 min walk uphill and a few more a further 5-10 min walk to the top of the road then right.
RE supermarkets, it's a good 10 min walk uphill to the main supermarket. don't stop at any of the smaller ones on the way up though - much more expensive and half the choice. The main one is at the top of the hill, then right along the road by the petrol station.
You can also walk into Amercao de Pera - about 40 mins or so or you can get a taxi for about 4 euro.
there is a bus service from outside the hotel but it's a bit hit and miss and doesn't always turn up on time!
We did a great boat trip from Portimao - Santa Bernada caves trip. Get the bus there though as a taxi is about 16 euros each way.
Other than that, get a car, drive around and go off the main roads to the little villages and hidden coves/beaches. well worth it. The coastal area is just stunning.
Would stay again if i wanted a cheap one week getaway. well worth it and a fab hotel, fab apartments that were cleaned every day in a great location.

“Nice stay, but some problems”

Pestana Viking Hotel and Resort

Oct 20, 2007

Pestana Viking Resort was our last stop in our 20 days trip in Portugal.

Arriving from a very disapponting experience at Sagres, we wanted to stay in a Pestana Hotel for our last 3 days. We booked the hotel with Expedia, with a price of 115 Euro for a room land view double room.

Not diffictul to be found, the hotel itself is not a magnificent building: modern, linear, just at the bottom of a small road.
The receptionist was very helpfully, giving us all the information we may need about SPA, golf, breakfast, etc.
The hotel has one open swimming pool with salt water, one open SP for childs and one covert SP with hot water. A Jacuzzi, Sauna, and Turkish Bath are available (the last two should be reserved 1 hour before usage).

A small Gym is for free, and the SPA can offer you really everything you can imagine (10 pages of massage menus!!)

Room was perfect, enought space for us, our bags and all the souvenirs.. ehehe..

Car can be parked in front of the hotel, where there are some buildings under construction. Pay attention: in the night, from the front garden a lot of water is falling on your car. It means if your car is not clean, you'll find it under two finger of mud!!

Good thing about the hotel:
Room - clean, fresh, nice bathroom. Nice balcony, with a small table and two chair, perfect for an evening relaxing moment.
Breakfast - we enjoyed it, expecially when you can choose between the inner or outer breakfast (you can have it sit near the pool). We did not face any problem in quantity/quality.
Pool Bar - very nice staff, friendly, just a little bit overpriced.
SPA - nice, clean, professional massages, right priced.
Golf - Pestana owns two very nice golf clubs just 20 minutes from the hotel. You can book a discounted tee-time at the reception, but be awared that you need to take with you the receipt or the Club House will charge you the full rate.

Now, as usual, the "not perfect":
Room - No hairdryer in room. We had to go to the reception, asking for it, and it was given us just after 1 hour!!
Lunch near the pool - VERY overpriced, poor quality and they did not take us what we ordered.
SPA - after our massage, at check out they tried to charge us a service never used. After our remostrances, I asked them to show the signed receipt.. they were, of course, not able to show it, and they cancelled it from our bill.. as always (and as everywhere): pay attention to your final bill!!
Internet - they have two computer savailable for internet connection just in front of the reception. But they charged us something like 10 euro/hour to use them!! Wow.. and I want to blame also the computer placement, giving you no privacy at all.
Check out - they had problem with Credit Card machine.. it was not working, so they used the "old" manual machine. But they were not able to use it, ending destroing my card folding the magnetic strip. I had to show to the receptionist how to use their manual C/C machine!!

I have to say that our three days were perfect for what we were looking for: relax, in a modern and clean atmosphere, not far from restaurants and the beaches, shopping and golf, and with a beautiful SPA for my wife.
This hotel has just some small "black" point, but I feel to suggest it, expecially if you are travelling with your family and children..
