My wife and I have just returned from a week at the Pestana Levante in Amacao de Pera. This is a lovely hotel, just the place for a peaceful & relaxing holiday as it's at the quiet end of the resort. We stayed on a B&B basis and chose not to eat dinner in the hotel. The breakfasts were average with not too much choice or change. An evening buffet was 28 euros each, add a bottle of wine at 12/14 euros and a meal for 2 comes in around 70 euros. There are 1 or 2 restaurants which are good, and a decent 2 course meal with wine and coffee can be had for around 45/50 euros per couple. The Levante is in a beautiful location on a cliff overlooking the sea. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the hotel is clean and comfortable. There are plenty of sun loungers & parasols by the pool. Each room has a small balcony with 2 loungers, 2 chairs and a small table. Go for a ground floor room as there is much more space on the terrace. The only slight critcism is that it's supposed to be a 4* hotel, but it must be a bottom end one as it has a 3* feel about it in places. Portable refridgerators are available for your room free of charge, but I would advise booking one before you arrive as they have limited availabilty which is a bit poor for a hotel of this rating. Amacao de Pera is not a resort I would particularly recommend. In places it is dirty, with litter in the streets and at times a bit of pong from the drains. There are a couple of good restaurants, Clippers, and Porters (run by an English guy) with good food and reasonbly well priced. All in all the Levante is a very good hotel that I would recommend for couples. If lounging around the pool all day or going to the beach is your thing then it's perfect, but if you are a family looking for some excitement and razzamataz then you'll be sadly disapointed.
