We just spent another great weekend at the riu. Stayed here this time last year and decided to return as we couldn't fault this hotel, we looked at so many hotels near by and we wanted to try somewhere different but couldn't see anywhere as nice as the riu.

We visited the Rui Palace again during our stay on the Algarve and for the third time in four years. It is as good as ever. The service is excellent, the food varied and well cooked and the room spacious and very comfortable.
I continue to recommend it and will return yet again.I am very pleased that it has achieved a well deserved no 1 status.

I can see why this has been rated the no.1 hotel in the Algarve. Spotlessly clean, fabulously friendly staff. Fantastic restaurant with a excellent wide range of food choices. Great service. Great facilities including an indoor and outdoor pool, spa, Jacuzzi, sauna, fitness room and hairdresser. Very peaceful and quiet area, if you like that sort of thing. Internet access through cable in my room, would have liked to have accessed wifi in the room also but this was only available in the lobby. Also it seems as if they reduce or turn off the hot water in the evenings. But these were only minor inconveniences would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose a lovely sea view room.

Stayed in RIU Palace in september 2012. We enjoyed it very much and despite I never return to the same hotel twice, this hotel was so great that we might even return!
PROS:
Food: the best bit! I actually think that it is the great FOOD that makes this hotel so special! The hotel offers a great variety of meat, fish, vegetables, starters, desserts...everything is delicious! Even the fussiest eater will be at seventh heaven here. For breakfast you will find freshly squeezed juices and also champagne with a fresh orange juice on a side to make a morning mimosa. Nice touch for a half board hotel.
Rooms:
spacious, comfortable, with nice large bathrooms. We had a room on the ground floor, but as this hotel is nicely quite it was perfect.
Hotel surroundings and staff:
hotel is beautiful, spotless, with nice swimming pool and amazing views. Staff is friendly and helpfull. The beach is stunning, with clean (but cold) water and when the tides lows the beach becomes an amazing "football pitch", where kids and adults can play. :-)
CONS:
be aware that this is a half board hotel. You must walk quite a lot in order to find a restaurant where to get a lunch.
Another minus are the stairs to the beach. We enjoyed them a lot, as there are nice views from them, but is definitely not suitable for older or heavy weight people. As the beach doesn´t belong to any hotel, you also won´t find there any sunbeds, umbrellas, shower and there isn´t even a place to eat, just a small bar. So if you get hungry at noon, you must climb up the stairs and then walk down to the nearest street.
My main complaint however goes to the hotel management regarding the pool. I don´t understand why in a country where you cannot have a proper bath in the sea (as it has about 18 degrees in peak summer) they leave also the outdoor pools unheated, so the pool water is more or less the same cold as the sea. We couldn´t swim in it, our little son either (kids pool is freezing as well)...actually we´ve rarely seen people swimming in it. This was a real pity!
If you are looking for a fun, young hotel, go elsewhere. There were mostly older guests and almost no kids. And is quite far from Albufeira city center. We liked it a lot, as the hotel was nicely quite during the day (guests rest around the pool and in the garden) and also in the night.
Opposite the half board RIU Palace is the new all-inclusive RIU and despite the fact that we prefere all inclusive and that we have a small child that might prefere the pools in the other Riu, we didn´t like it as it was really very noisy during the whole day with overcrowded pool area.
We´d love to get back to this hotel! If they could just heat a bit the outdoor pool!

Room Tip: I suppose the rooms above the lobby must get very hot from the huge roof below them, choose a differ...

Spent 2 great weeks in the Riu Palace for our honeymoon, hotel was spotless. Breakfast and dinner buffet with grill stations was plentiful and varied, lovely food, cake selection outstanding. The hotel has plenty of facilities such as indoor, outdoor pool and tennis court, which was a bit expensive at 15 euros. The local area of Olhos d'Agua is really nice, with a village appeal, some bars and restaurants and the locals’ beach. The main beach is down a lot of stairs has gorgeous soft sand and goes for about 2 miles. The Algarve itself has lots to offer and places to go for day trips, such as the dolphins up to Lisbon or Seville. Would visit again.
