“Its ok,you get what you pay for”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

Stayed here for 10 nights mid September 2013.Rooms are big and very spacious with a decent size balcony. However the rooms could do with a bit of an uplift. They look tired and could do with some TLC. We stayed in room 302,the view was n't great but I have had a lot worse.Reception staff are very friendly and all speak good English and are well mannered. The pool was a bit of a let down to be honest or the pool area I should say.Its welcome to sardine city time, loungers very close to each other and pool not that big.The nearest beach is about 15-20 walk down a big hill, probably not so good if you have walking issues. We hired a car and went to the beach at Portimao 7 out of the 10 days we were there. The strip as they call it is about a 5 minute walk away, with loads of bars and places to eat.Our room was cleaned every day and was always up to a decent standard.Would I go back?Probably not,but that's not against the Hotel,i prefer the western Algarve.

Stayed for 5 nights. Arrived early but were able to check in at 12. Rooms were spacious and we had a view of the pool and sea. Location is good. Near beach and strip but still quiet at night, its about a 5 minute walk to each. Super market only a 4 minute walk.
Rooms were cleaned daily but and towels changed every 2nd day. Overall the rooms could do with a good clean overall.

Good hotel for a good price. Staff were very helpful. Good hotel for couples

We spent a week in this hotel during our last family vacation in Portugal. The staff was very nice and the room decent for the price, but it was not very quiet. Even at the very end of the hotel on the 3rd floor, you can hear a lot of noise coming from the other rooms and even from the lobby downstairs. Furthermore, thanks to its relatively low price and proximity to the beach, the hotel seems to attract a young crowd, with one thing in mind: Party!

So overall, not a bad hotel, and you get what you pay for, but if you hope for a quiet stay, this might not be the place for you...

Lacks organization and very laid back - told couldn't get into room til 4, despite arriving at midday. Cleaning was very hap hazard and poor. All towels had stains, under bed was filthy. Booked an alarm call for return journey DID NOT GET ONE.... Fire alarm whilst there, no manager turned up... no fire service turned up, they would not have had a clue who was there and who was not - very irresponsible. Food expensive at the pool. Mildew around the bath, could do with updating.
Kitchen equipment lacking, had to ask for kettle and discovered there should have been more utensils in the room than were supplied! Should you have to ask for stuff that should already be supplied? That said, the room was a good size and livable, although I am not sure the standards are 4 star. This may be because of the location - which you cannot fault.

We stayed here 2 years ago and had a great holiday. We returned to the same hotel but found a lot has changed in 2 years. I'll start with the positives: location is ideal for the beach, the strip and the supermarket. No more than 5 minutes walk to each. We also walked to the old town on 6 of our 14 nights and this took about 45 minutes so not too bad. We returned on the tourist train as the walk seemed a little spooky late at night. The rooms are spacious: we had room 222 which had 2 huge balconies and spacious bedroom and lounge ares with sofa and dining table. It was also very secluded so no nosy neighbours which was nice! The hotel also has free wifi in the lobby which is a great bonus! It doesn't quite stretch to the rooms, although you can pay for that if you wish.

Now the negatives...

It seems the hotel has been taken over by new owners since we last stayed. The staff on reception are quite unfriendly. They're not rude, they just don't acknowledge you which I'm used to in other places. We had an issue with our air con not working. It was intermittent, which we explained to them and they sent a handman up. He said it was fine as it worked when he was there. We explained that water was dripping from it and the green on light was flashing when it stopped working. We reported the continuing issue 4 days in a row, and eventually gave up as they didn't seem bothered and never gave us the courtesy of following up with us to offer a solution or explain the problem. One of the doors on our balconies wouldn't lock. It looked like it had been forced at one point. We noticed this 4 days in as we'd only been using the other balcony so we decided not to say anything as we couldn't face the blank looks, or moving rooms. We just risked it as we were 2 floors up and had a safe. Next, the cleaners. So... They came in every single day, but they didn't appear to clean anything! It looked like they had swished a dirty mop over the floor and left. The floor was sandy and had hair on it that had just been moved around. There were cobwebs all over the balcony, and more worryingly, on the inside window sills in the kitchen. They had been there for some time. The place was desperately in need of a deep clean. The towels were threadbare and change every 2nd day. The beds were changed once in our 2 week stay, although they were made each day.

Next... The noise! Not from the bars on the strip, it's far enough away from the strip that you can't hear anything from there. However, what you do hear until as late as 4 am and as early as 6am every night and day is LOUD banging of doors, and furniture scraping all over the place. It sounds like the neighbours (up, down, left and right) are having some sort of removal party. I think it may be the sofa/ pullout beds being set up and put away but wow, it's loud! And constant! Made it nigh on impossible to sleep. In addition, the cleaners literally shout at each other in Portuguese from around 7am each morning in the corridors which woke us up anytime we weren't already awake! We were knackered for the full 2 weeks due to this!

The last thing I'll say, and this is probably the biggest shame of all, is that the pool and bar area have gone very, very downhill. Loungers: there is a sign saying towels will be removed from loungers not being used. I fully agree with this, people who reserve loungers on holiday and then don't appear until 4pm make me so mad! It's so selfish, idiotic... And British! However, this rule wasn't enforced the first week we were there and we found ourselves having to lie on towels on the ground on 2 occasions. Very uncomfortable. However, 9 days in we had a shock when we managed to get 2 loungers when we went down at 9am. We lay on them until 1pm when we decided to nip upstairs for lunch. We did this because you're not allowed to eat or drink your own things at the pool: not even water. The most ridiculous rule I've ever encountered in a hotel. Especially a self catering hotel. We were gone for 30 minutes and returned to find 2 girls on our loungers and our towels, suncream, etc. nowhere in sight. We asked the girls and were advised that the bar staff had removed our towels. We couldn't believe it after 9 days of no action beng taken on towels left all day, we'd been stung for leaving for 30 minutes! We spoke to the young English girl at the bar who showed us our belongings and said we'd left so she had to remove them. We challenged her on why this hadn't happened before on towels left all day leaving us lying on the ground and she couldn't explain. We told her we agreed with the rule, but if you apply a rule like that you must be consistent. We showed her several loungers around us we knew had been unoccupied all day, yet ours were removed after a half hour. She looked embarrassed. We asked if she could remove towels to enable us to return to the pool which she grudgingly did. Typically though, 10 minutes later, a man approached us and asked why we were on his lounger: he'd only been gone half an hour! So the staff have a rule that they only selectively enforce and they have no idea which ones have been unattended all day and which are simply people nipping for lunch. If they didn't have the terrible rule of no food and drink allowed, this wouldn't be an issue. At a push, i can maybe understand the food part, but to not be allowed your own water on a self catering holiday is ridiculous and a rule based on pure greed from the hotel/bar management. It's put me off returning to this hotel again.

We had a great holiday in Albufeira, and we'll return again... Although we'd stay in the old town as the strip was a bit young for us. We definitely won't be returning to the forte da oura which is a shame as we loved it 2 years ago!

My family and I stayed here last week. We loved this holiday from start to finish. The room was spacious and clean with a lovely sea view, lobby is lovely, and all in a perfect location, near the strip but not too near! The pool was lovely too and very clean. We had no problem with noise and the staff were very friendly, especially the Portuguese lady that helped us rescue a dog, and thanks to the staff for cooking us Vegetarian food without prior notice! Wish we were still there now!

We stayed here for ten nights from the end of August and were really worried about staying here having read earlier reviews but we did not experience any problems. One of the lights in the bathroom needed to be replaced and was done within 15 minutes of us reporting it. Reception staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Room was ready early for us as we arrived around lunch time which was great as we were not expecting it to available until later and the air conditioning a real bonus. We only went to the pool late on in the day so cannot comment on what it was like earlier but there were always sunbeds available after 4pm.
Towels were changed daily and rooms cleaned to a high standard.
Would certainly stay again if visiting the area.

Room Tip: We had a lower floor room at the back of the hotel it, there was no view as such other than the gard...
