“Holiday village Balaia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2014

we stayed from June 5th until June 12th and we had a fanastic time at the holiday village. this was our first experience of a holiday village and would recommend to anyone with a young family. The staff were great and upbeat all the time, (the evening entertainment will get mind-numbing as your stay goes on and is a little on the loud side but the kids love it) both hotel and first choice staff, the hotel was clean (we were worried to read before we went about a bug going round but we didn’t experience this or anyone else we spoke to) most of the time we saw a members of staff cleaning at some point around the hotel. The pools were good and enjoyable but too cold for kids, my kids needed breaks to warm up and had to dry off wet clothes or bring spares. A bar next to each pool which offered food and drink which was handy, food wasn’t as good in these bars as the restaurants but edible. We stayed in block 2 which was nice and quiet, glad we stayed in this building, as you might read there is a bit of a hill to walk to get to Colina 1 but nothing major to worry about (steps and ramp). The food was good in the main restaurant and good selection of food every night. We only went to the Italian restaurant and the food was great and service was good. The down side to hotel is the Location, 15 min walk to the beach which we wasn’t told about in the welcome meeting and had to ask the hotel staff, the welcome meeting its self was just excursion related and didn’t give info about the area or the hotel as such. We were told the hotel had a deal with the local taxis and the cost would be 5euro into town but worked out closer to 10 euro one way and we seemed to take a different route each time. The kids will enjoy the kids club and the activities onsite especially the chocolate party! Overall the holiday was good and would consider going back but will definitely go to another holiday village.

Our first visit to Portugal and what a fantastic experience, the weather was 28 - 30 all week with a slight breeze. The hotel was clean and well run, we were lucky enough to be in block 1 with a sea view apartment spacious clean and comfortable. Food was varied and plentiful although we found lunch times the best for choice. Staff friendly and helpful. 15 min walk to the beach with a nice cafe/bar for food and drinks. Albufeira was a short distance by taxi ( 6-7 euros) lovely and clean loads of shops and bars/restaurants to visit. Trips a little expensive however plenty to do for a week without the cost. Would definitely return again an absolute bargain.
Did find Faro airport expensive so buy your gifts before you leave.

Room Tip: Ask for block 1 all rooms have a sea view and are spacious even for a family of 4.

We just got back from this holiday village. It was my sons first holiday and at 18mths old I wasnt sure if there would be much for him to do but he loved it! such a friendly staff team and relaxing atmosphere. The food is a little of the same everyday but actually a good selection for all. The room was very spacious and well equipped for all your needs. I would highly recommend this resort for a great family holiday, we will be booking soon to return next year!

Room Tip: request block 1 and a sea view, these over look the main pool area.

Did not know what to expect for our first time visit to Portugal on a last minute whim. Barren like Egypt or Greece?
Very surprised. Firstly at how green the country is. They had/have a lot of rain.
Spacious room. Fab pool. Friendly staff through out. The food was probably the best I have had in an all inc apart from Brazil. My mother who is best described as fussy did not complain once. Result!
Downside is, you are not served at all. It is self service all the way.
Very strange that you have to go inside a closed restaurant to help yourself to drinks. Not sure if there were any accidents negotiating the two doors. Maybe a seasonal thing? Paper/plastic cups.
There is nowhere 'quiet' to sit in the evening. Too many noisy gaming machines. This is a family hotel. Not for couples.
Expect to pay a deposit for a/c and tv remote controls.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Alto Colina in Balaia over Easter (2 adults, 1 teenager). The hotel is really well kept, lovely pool areas - slide and splash pools were closed as we were out of season, but looks really good for kids. Large sports areas, inside pool which was freezing! Really nice room with close-off bedroom from the main living area and good kitchen. Best thing about this place was the food and the man who books you into the restaurant (and does the shuttle service to Albufeira...) We are all fussy eaters and the food was excellent every night with a themed choice that changed ever day, plus the basics in case you don't like the theme. Best food ever from an A.I. Shame the drinks weren't up to the same standard, but hey-ho you get what you pay for and this hotel is good value. Didn't like the bar area at all, they could do with some sort of lounge for those who don't have 5 or 6 under 5's that want to run around till late.....
All in all, good value, good food, lovely pool areas, nice room, great staff. Would reccomend.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 4th floor have a great view.

Just returned from our week holiday from Portugal. We originally booked a different hotel but for our luck we were booked out to their sister hotel, the Alto da Colina.
That was the best thing that happened to us!!! The manager on duty, Jo was absolutely amazing. She really went out of her way to make sure that we were looked after :) She is a real credit to the hotel. Her hospitality really touched us and we will always have good memories of Portugal :)
The food was excellent, we got the full inclusive deal and we never left the restaurant unsatisfied.
The staff there is AMAZING, the receptionists, the lady in the bar, they all had great customer service.
We spent our last 2 nights in a different hotel, and we regreted not staying in Alto da Colina all the time. It is perfect for children, our little girl ( 3 yrs) had so much fun, she made loadz of new friends, even though they didnt have some of their facilities open since we were in pre-season the kids just had so much to do. The playground is fabolous.
Just wanna say a big thank you to Jo and all the staff to make this holiday so memorable for us, we loved Portugal and the Portugese are really friendly, i would definitely recommend this hotel :) THANK YOU JO:) :) :)

Room Tip: We stayed on the 1st floor and our balcony was twice as big as the others and we had a sea view too...
