1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2012

This was my Honeymoon,we wanted a short relaxing break away but with option of still being able to go out to eat & still be able to visit a few bars for abit of night life. This was not possible as the Hotel is in the middle of no where,we thought that we were getting a villa appartment but in fact got a appartment in what i describe as a youth hostel block.Very Very basic. You will need a taxi or bus trip iff you need to change any money and is a 20 minute journey from Albufeira. We managed to move there after 2 days & it made our trip,a very hilly place but fantastic final 3 days.I hope this help's.

Room Tip: Sorry, not able to do so.

The Alfamar Hotel complex consists of a large 4-star hotel block, very well maintained, within about 200 yards of the quite excellent Praia de Falesia (beach). In its attractive and well looked after gardens there dozens of bungalows, and then two small blocks of apartments (Algarve Gardens Apartments). We had one of these. It was fairly basic (tiny kitchenette, bathroom, 1 bedroom, balcony, no air-con) all a bit down-at-heel and showing its age but well serviced. We were on the second floor which entailed climbing 46 steps and no lift, so it wouldn't be suitable for anyone with any mobility problems. We went half-board (breakfast and evening meal). One disadvantage was that the restaurant was 5 minutes brisk walk away. The food was acceptable but unexciting and unimaginative. You wouldn't go here for the food. The whole complex has an Albafueira address, but it is actually 7-8 km to the east of Albafueira, and lies in a quiet semi-rural area, with only a couple of mini-markets and bar/restaurants nearby. If you want shops, entertainments, night-life and bustling crowds, then don't come here. But for quiet and access to a vast and superb sandy beach which stretches for miles, backed by high pine-covered cliffs, then this may be the place for you. Have a look at the pictures other people have included with their reviews. Most of the guests we saw were couples with small children, or the middle-aged and elderly. No teenagers or 20s, although they might find the extensive sports facilities attractive. We hired a car but wouldn't do so again because navigating through the maze of roads along the coastal strip is a pain, and if you really want to visit Albafueira, you can get a bus. It only takes 20 minutes. We had 10 very good, excellent sunny days, with lots of sunbathing, walking and relaxing. So, would we make another visit and possibly recommend it? Yes, we probably would, within the limitations we've spelled out here.

I will keep this VERY short. If you are doing self catering here. DO NOT DO IT. Please please do not! It was the worst room I have ever been in. We moved the day after. You have been warned. The MAIN hotel looked fine. Pool great, and beach area superb, but we didnt do that. Hotel in the midde of no where. 16 euro taxi to Albufeira. Go at your own peril.

Nice Friendly staff great location for someone with their own transportation i.e. away from downtown Abufaria .
Resort has all the amenadies however it was quite obvious from my first day there that maintenance regarding the building and it's resources are not being carried out to a four star standard . The Sauna areas' only functioning shower for men was the one in the men,s change room
Shower in common areas gussed water from behind its metal wall faucet and the other common shower didn't work period
My room though clean required paint in the bath area probably because the ventilation didn,t ventilate . Oddly enough the A/C System worked well . It was Split type system found throughout the Resort and was very Quite .
Overall it had its' location and facilities going for it. On the Down side it has Maintenance issues throughout which leads me to ponder what this place will look like next year .probably off my list

Arrived at hotel on 13th may went to studio apartment very very basic and no air con
upgraded to one bedroom villa with no hassel was able to view villa before upgrading which cost 105.00 euros for the week
Villa was more spacious had air con at no extra cost

Just returned after 14 days in the apartments of the Algarve Gardens despite some of the negative reviews. Last year we got the bus from Albuferia to view this facility and found that the area around the Alfamar is truly stunninng - beautiful gardens and lawns and easy access to what is a truly stunning beach. We booked the apartments and although a bit oudated they are comfortable and are cleaned and fresh towels are provided each day. On arrival we asked for a toaster and kettle and these were provided immediately. We had full use of the hotel facilities outdoor pool, indoor heated pool, Jacucci and Hot Tub the same as any other hotel guest. Towels are provided free when using indoor facilities. The area is quiet if that is what you like and there is a cheap restaurant and supermarket nearby with free wiifi. We found all people staying at the hotel, bungalows and apartments very friendly and the hotel staff always helpful and informative when approached. We hired a car for 4 days and given 5 days (approx £96) with proper insurance. If you like to check out the area or visit Albuferia there is a local bus service (EVA) is available. If you are looking for night life or karaoke this is not for you but if you want a nice quiet holiday it is suitable. As regular travellers this is the first place that we were able to access first class hotel facilities for apartment prices. We stayed in Albuferia last few years but prefer a quiet holiday in nice natural surroundings.

Room Tip: Beautiful area of the Algarve

after reading the TA reviews... too late unfortunately. The outdated hotel and even more outdated bungalows must have been according to standards in the early eighties but as for rating nowdays :a small 3 stars for the hotel and a small 2 for the bungalows. What a pity, the location is simply breath-taking and the extensive sport facilities really good .This must be the reason why it remains a favourite among national sports teams for training camps. In my case it was the Russian team of athletics who had taken the place over, more pleasant to look at than the usual overweighted Germans anyway! As a result the food if simple is really healthy and breakfast even nice and complete with eggs, plenty of cereals, breads, fresh and dried fruits etc...about the only positive thing concerning the restaurant since the staff is cold and unconcerned. Having diner at 8.30 p.m ( supposed to be served until 9 p.m ) we used to be put in a remote corner surrounded with a ballet of waiters and waitresses busy setting the breakfast tables, making loud jokes with each others and paying absolutely no attention to the guests whatsoever. I suppose as usual with German clients, diner time is between 6.30 and 7 o'clock! So annoying...The pool area is quite nice and the tropical gardens around the hotel too. The reception staff is so good, especially Carolina, always available and eager to help in any way, even overpassing your demands at times, that you feel sorry such talents are being wasted in this "Sunset Boulevard" sort of a decadant place! The cleaners are doing a fantastic job but once again they cannot help the paint falling apart, the white turned grey with age and the rust all over the place... Be careful not to stay too long in the indoor pool ( ceramics falling apart too...) or you might end up with your skin burnt just like me, so much Chloride they put in it! I was granted one of the " best bungalows we have " and it is true it was spacious with a nice big balcony and terrace. Once again the problem is one of age while it must have been such a nice typical liitle Portuguese house 30 years ago. Big kitchen, well equiped bathroom and apart toilet cabinet but all is so rusty, so worn out, it does spoil your good feelings . Some bungalows are indeed a lot worse, at least from the outside : big spots of missing paint, dark tracks, rust and fungus all over! Makes you even wonder about simple safety. All together I agree with Janice S : needs a total revamp if not demolition. It won't be hard to find a much nicer location to stay around and for the same price, so follow my advice : give it a miss until renovations are completed. It then could be one of the loveliest spots on the coast.

Room Tip: Hotel Room with a sea-view. NO BUNGALOW ever!
