2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2011

Went in February so wasnt expecting too much! Only paid £140 and would not pay anymore than that! The rooms were fine, weather was beautiful but the food and staff were shocking! The staff were rude and food was the same for every meal and will make you ill! Eat out!!

The Aparthotel Monica Isabel Beach Club is a complex that is on a very steep hill leading down to the beach. The apartment room was away from the main hotel. It is set out in narrow rows to look like the back streets of Portugal. The apartment was very large; with a bathroom, living room with cooking area and a bedroom that leads onto the balcony with excellent sea views across the bay. The apartment was clean but dated. The staff were very helpful at all times. On the all-inclusive basis. The snacks were very limited cake, crisps and ham cheese sandwiches. The restaurant was on the eighth floor with spectacular views across the bay. The waiters were very good and fast. The choice of food was similar at lunchtime and dinner. It consisted of soup, three choices of main course vegetables and two sweets plus fruit. The bar does run out of glasses and small plastic glasses are used. You can reuse your large (1 pint or ½ pint glasses again as you would in Britain if they ran out. The cocktails were half price for all-inclusive customers. (You could make up your own if you ordered the items separately and mixed them your self) The drinks service was slow in the evening and no entertainment. There was a smell in the entrance hall of the main hotel. This may have been caused by the fumes from the indoor pool. Once you have pass through this area the smell soon disappeared. The indoor pool was very warm. The outdoor pool was closed and the beach bar was closed. As this hotel is made up of a main hotel, apartments (that are surrounded by security fencing) reception with bar games area. A outdoor swimming area and car parking all on different levels. These are cross-crossed by roads this does give a fragmented layout to the complex. With a little more care to detail to layout to linking each area together would improve the hotel. This is a very good value for money hotel in a nice setting for a long week-end break..

The hotel is fine if you don't pay some of the crazy prices we heard that some people had paid...it's not worth paying more than £200 tops for a week. The food is fine I didn't like the indoor pool, the alcohol is fine, the resort is lovely! We went christmas week and to be honest it was pretty dire but that was largley due us visiting a christian country and the portugese like to spend the holidays with family. The beach is also lovely! The staff were polite and well mannered towards our family although i did overhear some pretty horrible exchanges with other guests. A LOT of people spent the whole holiday complaining but if you go with an open mind and understand what a low cost system hotel operates like you should have fun!

Two adults and two teenagers - all inclusive well it was not worth it - the accommodation was okay but food was pretty basic and not very variedand god help you if you asked for anything not on the menu (boiled egg - pizza). (You get what you paid for). The all inclusive bar snacks consisted of burgers and crisps and the staff seemed to hide them throughout the hotel.........

Staff were okay and could speak good english, bus to town was three times a day, hotel was cold and damp and very unappealing, two pools - open air was closed due to the poor weather ?????? indoor pool was very small and had a jacuzzi which was cold and looked as if it was never maintained. Our room was basic and clean and we never expected much and we got that! Entertainment was pretty poor - not our fault there were only 20 odd guests there....

Will be back to Albufeira but not at this resort.

We recently booked a long weekend to Albufeira through TravelJunky. Luckily we were re-allocated to the Monica Isabel Aparthotel before we traveled. The hotel is in a great location close to the beach and the 8th floor restaurant has a fantastic view over the whole bay.The heated indoor pool and jacussi were nice and warm and we did see some brave souls in the sea and the outdoor pool! We had a great long weekend.

The apartment was huge consisting of a large lounge diner with a balcony, well appointed kitchen , large bedroom one double and a single bed again with a balcony.

We only paid £79 for 3nights B&B incl flts from Gatwick.(Also we were given halfboard as compensation for being re-allocated).
The buffet food was pretty average but adequate and at the price we paid who cares. We ate an excellent 3 course lunch at a nearby lovely beach restaurant at total cost of Euro40 incl wine. On Sunday we caught the free shuttle to the old town and again had lunch outside, overlooking the sea at a small restaurant serving sardines, potatatoes and salad for 5 Euros. Beer was only 2Euros a pint. We walked back to tghe hotel along the beach.

Apart from the rather average Hotel food, everything else was fine and the weather lovely, warm and sunny. VERY COLD at night so take warm clothes for the evenings and thick PJs for bedtime! We had a bit of a problem heating the bedroom but the helpful staff at the Hotel sorted out the aircon for us. We never did master the hot air con in the living room.

Am looking out for more bargains like this, I think Traveljunky are doing more.
Its not a luxury hotel but excellent value for money. A week's self catering might be nice but not sure how much it would cost.

Booked this hotel as a 'cheapie' all-inclusive winter break and it certainly was! The hotel was operating on a very reduced staff/facilities basis as this was going into their Low Season. Not all bars or facilities were open and it was often hard to find staff when wanting a drink from the bar. The food was very basic and not very varied and often needed warming up in the microwave which was positioned near the buffet. The Lounge/Lobby area was very dingy and uninviting. However, it was pleasant enough for a short stay and a good location on a stunning beach! I am sure it is very different in Jun/Jul/Aug but personally I would not want to travel then. If I were to return to Algarve in winter I would possibly choose a higher starred accommodation.
