“very poor level of facility's and options etc”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2014

This hotel with seperate apartments available is potentially a very good place to visit, however does have several matters of concern the level of customer care/attention is very poor, with very little in the way of entertainment and a ridiculous restaurant location on the 8th floor of the main hotel building, the main entertainment area the millenium bar is a very large empty area with very little to offer apart from some basic seating this would without doubt be more suited as a restaurant location!. other matters like very limited menu options and cold inadequate serving's as well as feeling like a cattle market in the restaurant area meant we were very dissapointed and after only two visits decided to feed ourselves in the local food outlets, therefore making the half board option a waste of our money.
There are other issues such as a 3PM check in time, we arrived 10AM very tired having travelled for some considerable time and were expected to find something to do otherwise? we eventually were allowed to check in at 1.00PM approximately early after reasoning with Deborah Dean on the front desk who is one of the most helpful and friendly persons you could ever hope to meet thank heavens!. our room 311a had beautiful 180 degree views of the ocean but was let down by maintenance issues as listed,
bathroom windows cracked with broken locks and no blinds for privacy, our apartment is directly overlooked by other apartment's so we had to use towels hung over the windows to deal with this issue. heating was provided by a single air conditioning unit located in the bedroom area at the opposite end of the apartment therefore almost worse than useless.
other issues were sockets barely on the wall or in the wrong location (directly next to or above the sink area)no sockets for bedside lighting in the bedroom, sink taps in the main room cooking area loose and in danger of coming away in your hand with a door badly fitted on the cupboard below and so on !! what Maintenance we ask???.
i could continue at risk of boring everyone but please consider carefully before you book this hotel location.

Room Tip: south facing room's are very noisy but with good views from top apartment's

avoid this hotel,a party of three adults, four kids ageing from 2-10,went for our first family xmas holiday,21st-28th dec ,after 2 days we wanted to be home, the 2 rooms we had was fine, plenty hot water and clean towels we was in 611&612,we had nice view over looking the beach.the food was awful, left over scrambled egg was on top of pizzas for lunch, left over spouts and carrots from lunch was put in salads for dinner ,we ate out most of the time because kids wouldn't eat, xmas day we had chip butties ,the poolbar was awful, open 10 till 5,it was filthy, the other bar opened at 4pm only cans of beer ,no draught, and plastic cups.only one night bearable entertainment was friday (folk dancing) some nights entertainment started at 9.30 pm,thats no good for kids at 2,5,6.The reception staff was ignorant and rude,When we booked the holiday we were told there where kids entertainment at night and kids club during the day, what a sham,it just totally ruined our kids xmas ,being stuck in our rooms most of the holiday,we payed £2,500 for the worst holiday we have ever had in our lives, never to return to this hotel again as long as we live

Room Tip: nicer rooms on 6 floor main block

We stayed at the Monica on an alll inclusive basis for 6 nights from 26/12/13 until 01/01/14.
We found all the members of staff very friendly, maybe because we were friendly to them also.
The poor lady on reception had some awful people to deal with, they were unbelievably rude to her., but fair play to her she kept calm.
We didn't find anything wrong with the food supplied. There was plenty of choice & it was always hot.
The white wine was drinkable with ice. The cans of lager were far better than the usual cheap stuff you get on draft at all incl hotels. Bottles of water were free from the bars.
The millennium bar wasn't for us, too many children about.
The pool bar was great on a day when it poured down all day. Snacks were available, these were ham toasties, some salad, some fruit & some crisps.
In previous reviews people say how dirty it was around the pool bar......main reason being guests who seem unable to understand the concept of using the many bins that are situated everywhere.
We made some use of the free minibus to the old town, but got taxis back., these cost between €3.5 & €5 depending on the time of day.
Whenever we go all inclusive we never stay all day and night at the hotel, as we love to try local restaurants & bars. The old town has a great selection of both
We were in C block which was just within a 5 minute walk of reception. The road to walk is not exactly smooth & a little hilly.
We had a good sized room, with bathroom, kitchenette and bedroom.
Cleaners came every day.
Our air conditioning came in handy when turned up to 32º, as it was very cold in the evenings.
We spent a brilliant new years eve on Fisherman's Beach & saw the most amazing fireworks display at midnite.
Overall we enjoyed our stay........would we stay there again?..........as long as the price is right & for no longer than 5 nights.

Room Tip: Relax......it is what it is - a cheap holiday

The sea was cold and the hotel would not provide a water heater? Also a lot of people in the hotel spoke a different language to me??

OK REAL REVIEW
The food was ok plenty of it. The room was cold the first 2 nights so we went and bought a little fan heater for 20 euros. The staff were helpful and the room was clean.
We booked a 3 star apartment and were given a 4 star apartment .
New Year's Eve was great in Albufeira,
fireworks and live music on the beach. The next day we had some sun ( jeans and T shirt )
Overall very happy for the money we paid.

Travelled on 28th December for 5 nights all inclusive, party of 3 couples.

Positives
The maids did a good job, cleaned room each day to a good standard and always fresh linen and towels.
Complimentary bus service into town on New Years Eve with a return at 3am.

Negatives.
All inclusive bar was none existent, cheap canned beer and plastic cups.
Plastic cups are ok around a pool or for children but as adults paying an all inclusive price we did expect draft beers and glasses in the bar. Hence we used the bar once preferring to pay at the bars down the road, as did a lot of the guests. (you knew where they were staying as they all had the bright orange wrist bands on that the hotel monica gave you)

Pool area is caged in with metal fencing, not sure why.
Really miserable area, rubbish lying around etc.
Spa/Salon, Gym all closed, not sure why.
Mini market had very limited stocks, a few bottles of water and crisps on shelves.

The food was of a very poor quality, no variety and usually cold.
Breakfast was very basic, no eggs only boiled. Stale bread, no fruit.
Lunch appeared to be left over breakfast.
Dinner appeared to be left over lunch.

Staff were rude and uninterested.
Dinner was 7pm until 9pm at 9.10pm a member of staff came over to us and said in an abrupt manner "we are closing can you get out now" we only ate in the restaurant for 1 lunch and again this was said to us.
We had to ask for clean cups, cutlery and for tables to be cleared, the lady in the restaurant who appeared to be in charge told us to sit down and wait for someone to come to us, no one ever did and we had to go in search of our own things.

Pool snacks were dried cake, crisps and pears which looked like the staff had kicked them around for a while.

Room smelled terribly musty.
Blankets were in desperate need of a wash.

Please do not waste you hard earned money on this property and if you do please don't pay the all inclusive as you will definitely be out of pocket.

Room Tip: Don't waste your money, anywhere is better than here.

We arrived on Boxing Day to a very damp room. M2 102. The room was like an ice block. The heating system did not work. When we rang the receptionist she was very rude and told us that we were not using it right. The food was awful one morning the boiled eggs were green inside and when complained to the staff they just took it away and never said a word. There were no draft beer we had heard that the hotel had not paid the brewery and therefore we giving canned beer. I have never in my live been to a worse hotel. We were left everyday with no towels and had to ring the abrupt receptionist every day. One day we were told to knock on a different room to see if they had our towels. The reviews are right and PLEASE TAKE NOTE AND DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!!!!!!

Room Tip: dont go IN bLOCK m2 102

We were a group of four adults staying in two 4* rooms the week between xmas and new year.
Can I start by saying the maids did an excellent job keeping the bathrooms in sparkling order and the linen was attended to.That's where my views change drastically!
The food was possibly 1* No variation, Breakfast... only fried eggs on alternate days! bacon every 3 days!! Mushrooms on the days when no eggs or bacon. But hard boiled eggs every day!! Bread for toast was Bimbo always tastes stale/dry to me and my wife, Lunch... Was a selection of salads and limited range of cooked food but was much better than the breakfast or dinner which I haven't got to yet, (Must have been a different chef). Dinner...Crap,Crap,Crap!!!.
Room's...The room's we had were on the lower floor in MI block (main Building) 102/106..The beds were concrete hard. the pillows were thin and worn out, the aircon/heating did not work at all so the room we had was freezing. We asked and paid for sea view's but directly outside our windows was an embankment some 2 floors high with 2 cockrels crowing from early morning to late at night wandering about outside, several dogs barking continually and the usual cats coming and sitting on the retaining wall that was holding several thousand tons of earth back out of our rooms.
Only one bar in the main building was open and closed at 11 o'clock even on new years eve!!?? The pool bar only had crisp's or ham/cheese toast'es at some times during the day.
The entertainment was appallingly poor. Kareoke some evenings so we went out every evening to restaurants and bars for better quality food and some entertainment there-bye negating the all inclusive we paid our hard earned wages for.The spa was not open.
All in all it barely rates 1* in my book let alone even 2*
I will NOT EVER recommend this hotel to any of my family or friends!!!

Room Tip: My tip ""Don't choose this hotel""
