“Joinal Villas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2014

Just returned from a weeks break and was very pleasantly surprised with Joinal Villas. Although slightly dated the villa was clean and very spacious with excellent facilities and grounds. For us it was ideally situated and we was aware that you needed a car. The staff was excellent with cleaners visiting every day - even cleaning out the BBQ which we were going to do the next day. We will definitely re-visit.

Room Tip: Nice restaurants near by but ideally need a car to visit more of Portugal and Albufiera, although I...

We went here in October and had a lovely time. Miguel had left a food pack for us which was a great start to our holiday. The Villa was spotless and the maids came every day changing towels and cleaning, they also changed the bed midweek. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you needed including fridge freezer, washing machine (we did not use as just here for week) and microwave. All in we had a lovely time and would go back again and Miguel was a lovely man and very helpful.

Room Tip: We were in No 7 with garden and pool outlook.

My husband and I took a week holiday at Joinal in June this year and can honestly say we loved it.

On arrival we were given bread, milk, jam, butter, tea, sugar and coffee which we thought was a very nice touch!

It depends on what kind of holiday you're going for as to whether you should go here! We wanted to go and chill out and do absolutley nothing! Which this place was perfect for, very quiet with a few restaurants near by and 2 supermarkets within walking distance - one about 5 min walk, the other probs 12-15 min walk, but quiet days by the pool were all we were after and we got that and enjoyed the walk to the supermarket to break the day up a bit! :D

The marina is about a 5 Euro taxi ride away and Albufera centre about 10-12 Euro ride, plus you can get busses. So yes, it is a little bit in the middle of no where but if what you want is peace and quiet then this place is perfect and if not then hire a car and go exploring or book excursons (which there are plenty of!!). If you visit anywhere in the algarve and want exploration etc it is advised you hire a car anyway!! We chose not to and got along fine!!

each apartment has a private garden which I loved! And a bbq which we used several nights and dined alfresco! The cleaners even cleaned the bbq in the morning!! We also ate out at 3 of the restaurants and enjoyed both very much!! There is also a fab family bar up the road called scooby's who offer a free minibus service to and from the bar to your apartment!!

We did take our own pillows as read a few reviews complaining about that and we're glad we did as the pillows were a bit hard.

The apartment itself serves its purpose!! it has all the facilities you need including a downstairs toilet and shower!! what more could you ask for?! 2 bedrooms upstairs - more like a house than an apartment. There are marble stairs though which i understand can be a worry for those with children, however, i've been to many apartments where the floor is all marble and stone stairs leading to it. They're not going to put carpet down for it to get dirty now are they?! And yes, the appliances are a bit old but they work absolutely fine!!!

The TV is small . . . but why on earth do you need a TV on holiday?! We didn't even switch it on!!

There is a book shelf with books on which we both loved as we'd brought our own but we read a lot so we read a few of those too!!

They also have free wifi.

The pool was clean, the grounds very well maintained and very nice!!

All in all we had a lovely time. . .like i say, only go here if you just want a quiet, relaxing holiday.

If you want busy, lively, lots of things around, a brand new apartment with brand spanking new appliances then this isn't for you. But I feel if you live in the real world then here is just fine!

Booked for October 13, very dated two storey villa (with marble stairs not child friendly at all) pool was full of beetles and flying ants, fridge was rusty and we found a dead bird next to our barbecue, in the middle of nowhere.Avoid !!

Had a great holiday here with my husband and children (ages 18,15,7 and 20 months)
The accommodation does badly need updating, dark musty smelling wardrobes, chest of drawers etc. very very uncomfortable beds(we lifted the mattress-no slats just a piece of wood!) which probably explains why. A washing machine from the 80s(with mould!) and the smallest TV for such a large sized sitting room. We were a family of 6 but found it odd there where only seating in lounge for 4,4 sun loungers and yet 6 chairs around dining table! The villas have safety gates at top and bottom of stairs which was great as the marble staircase is a worry. You have your own garden area with a lockable gate which was a godsend for us with the baby it also had a BBQ area which Is a fab idea. The complex itself is v well maintained by manwel it is very clean and safe. There is a small play area that needs a revamp and some equipment for small children putting in. There are 2 pools a big and baby one which r both nice and clean but cold.
Nearby within 5-10 min walk are lots of nice restaurants to eat in the jompra being our favourite. Prices r between €8-€15 for a decent main course in most places. Supermarkets are quite dear and a good 15 min walk away its worth walking the extra few mins to the Oceana where they do lovely fresh meat and there is a fishmonger close to this supermarket too.
I would strongly recommend hiring a car b4 u get there as we priced one up at over €400 for 3 days as we needed a large vehicle. We never done this and decided on 2 taxis everywhere we went or lots of walking as your out the way from everything. To the old town it's about €8 in taxi.
Would recommend Zoo marine as a good day out we also did Dolphin Driven which is great if u don't have a back problem, are
pregnant or have children under 5 as boat goes extremely fast in choppy waters.
Overall a great holiday and I would return if villas received a make over!

We stayed at the Joinal Villas from 27th April till 11th May,
We where really a bit worried about what we would find as the price we paid was
far from what you would expect to pay for a 2 bed villa fully fitted kitchen with washing machine, dishwasher and a barbeque at the bottom of the garden which was not very big but big enough for 4 people but only myself and my husband stayed in the Villa which was really such a surprise in the inside of the villa, we had in the spare bedroom a wall of wardrobes and separate draws built in to bottom of the wardrobes, and in the main bedroom there was a large and airy wardrobe, which also housed the safety deposit box which was very safe and solidly built into the wardrobe. The villa was cleaned every day except Sunday and the towels cleaned everyday if you wanted to if like us we use them for 2 days as that helps the environment and the cost of the washing them ,we could not fault the cleaners , the overall villa it was well stoked utensil, pans and rest of the kitchen appliances the furniture might of been dark in colour but very good quality over all our stay was excellent as where the beaches and the surrounding area where of a really good high standard, we would go bank their any time with no hesitation the pool area, and the gardens where really very well kept, the weather was a bit cold of a night so just took our computer up to the bedroom and put the air con on which was really warm so we put a dvd on or watched tv on our laptop the only problem we encountered was there was only a small wall mounted heater in the living room and as we went end od April begging of May they weather was very cold of a night and that is all l can say that was the only problem but as l said we overcame that by going and putting the hot air con on ine the bedroom and watching tv on the computer we has a really great 2 week there and the beaches were fantastic a bit of a walk but well worth it also the restaurant around the corner J&K we ate there every night except sunday when my husband like his home cooked roast dinner and on a Wednesday we would have a meal in the my husband would wander around to j&k,s restaurant to watch the football and l would have a peaceful night in watching what l wanted to watch on tv and then we where both happy, and happy to go back their again

Room Tip: pick an end room if you can then you only have one set of neighbours to think about think we where...

Considering the amount we paid for this holiday we did expect a better standard of accommodation. The furniture was old and dark. They cannot really be classed as villas- more like town houses or large apartments. Our "villa" was well away from the pool and there were no loungers around the pool, so we sat on the loungers outside our "villa". There were quite a few families with teenagers there at the time we were, so quite a bit of noise in the evening. A few of the families go year after year and all know one another. The positives: close to lovely beaches, and good places to visit. Definitely need to hire a car, we got out and about quite a bit ( did not like being in the "villa" ) . Pools were ok but adult pool often full of young people with inflatables, so not able to swim very often.
Would recommend the area, but not the "villas".
