“good value for money!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

arrived in early June to the Ondamar Hotel and found check in quick and easy with the member of staff showing us where the old and new town were on the map and also where the nearest beach is (10ish minute walk). The room was large with one bedroom and the view over the pool was nice. the kitchen was well equip with facilities and a dish washer. The only complaint would be the oven which did not work properly and needed a manual as it was so complicated !

The Ondamar has two pools and indoor and outdoor pool. indoor pool has a a hot tub also which is not really hot but is nice if weather isn't so good. The outdoor pool is massive with a pool bar. the pool is large but very very cold and so the weather has to be boiling for the pool to be a suitable temperature. the pool bar is cheap for drinks which i was surprised about after reading reviews saying it was expensive... totally untrue with a cocktail of the day been only 3 euros.

The location of the hotel is ideal for both the old town and the new town with the new town been the nearest and the old town been a 15 minute walk but only 4.50 euros in a taxi and the hotel will call a taxi for you which will arrive in a matter of minutes even if there is more than 4 of you.

Room Tip: all rooms overlook the pool but try to get a room higher up to ensure sun is on balcony through all...

Better the devil you know so we decided to come back here in May half term with mother in law and 12 year old daughter. We had 2 separate one bed apartments and they were just as good as the one we stayed in last year. This time they were both on the left of the hotel (looking from the pool inwards) and they did not get the sun in the afternoon/evening whereas the one we had last year, on the right hand side, did. Still exceptionally clean, in all areas and the bar has been re-furbished (they could still make more of it) All staff are very polite and helpful. The only slight grip (compared to last year) was a large group on a hen weekend. They were in the bar til closing (just after 12) then proceeded to one of their rooms and were extremely noisey. This didnt bother us as 1) we were still up and 2) it was on the other side of the hotel. Had I been next to them with young children, I would not have been happy (surely the purpose of albufeira and hen/stags is to go out on the strip/old town?) Also my mother in law was woken up one night when some people were coming in (late) and making a lot of noise. I think someone told them to shut up (in no uncertain terms as I would have done!) I don't have a problem with stag/hen groups in the main however I hope this hotel doesn't become over-run by them as I dont want to encounter them when I am relaxing with husband or family. This is why I have given it 4 star overall and not 5 as I did last year. I viewed this hotel as more family/couple friendly (most of the guests were and we met some lovely people) and I hope this doesn't change, otherwise we would not come back here. As one reviewer said you pay your money and take your chance on who you get next to you. We had a VERY good deal on travelrepublic. Also sun-bed war continued. Again, yes we reserved ours early BUT used them all day. We were self catering again (apparently food in hotel still terrible) lots of supermarkets and restaurants nearby and food in hotel pool bar very good for snacks and cocktails etc. Finally please look after the resident cat for me!

we paid £179 thru Alpha Rooms for may 9th to 16th, and reviewed this place last year...i used suntransfers.com for return taxi transfer and paid £45..driver met us no problem, my name on a sign, very helpful, also our return back to faro the driver turned up on time,, no problems at all, and was a nice audi A4 ..Faro airport has a smoking lounge if you require one on your return journey, it;s upstairs.....1st thing, you must use steps to get to the pool area..also, at night the corridors are dimly lit, use the light switches outside anyones room to light the hallways up..Note..signs say no going down early and putting towels on the loungers but most people did, the staff will lift them and place on the hedges, but this trip this did not happen.it did in may and august last year..buy shopping and eat in now and again, very cheap to do, ..the Ondamar staff were all pleasant, even the cleaners said good morning to you..it's 3 euros a day for the hotel safes which we used to keep passports, money etc in...a beer or wine at the pool bar costs around 2 euros 50, cider is 4 euros 50..coffee 2 euros, our room was room 7, great pool view and had obviously had a paint job, very clean, bathroom clean, balcony spotless, ..i also saw stafff painting the white parts of the hotel roof etc so they must try to give it a spruce up now and again, we did not eat there or use the hotel bar (but the bar always looked quiet)...outside in front of hotel is a good priced chinese called the big shanghai, it's very good....turn left past the chinese you have a barclays bank cash machine then some shops, restaurants, huge supermarket called continente, quite cheap, (except for british products, £1.70 for a tin of heinz chicken soup so avoid our own brands)...other side of the road is mcdonalds and kfc....to get to old town stay left side of road past the chinese then walk 10-15 mins, you'll see the municipal building on your left, cross the rd in front and go down the hill for 5-6 mins, beach is also there...going right from hotel, stay on main rd you will see worm roundabout, stay right side and 5-6 mins you'll hit the main strip full of shops, bars etc...beers/wine 2 euros 50 although the old town had some for 2 euros during the day..bottom of the strip go across rd, down the steep hill for the beach...if you want a cheap but amazin english breakfast try Hollandaise dutch place 2.50 euros for a small, (1 rasher danish bacon, i egg, i sausage, i tomato, i bowl baked beans, 1 slice of toast with butter) 3.90 euros large breakfast, very nice people as well, amazin prices..to find this go thru worm roundabout and around 5 mins along it' s on the left side of the road.(green coloured restaurant).there is a santander bank machine on this side around 3 mins from hollandaise.big booze and cigarette shop on the corner as well..cheap..also the Pingo Doce supermarkets are quite cheap for beer and wine, white wine for £1.20 and sagres beers, very cheap..but always busy at any time of day........all in all if your not expecting 4 star hotel, the ondamar is not that bad, i'd say 3 stars,,,only downside is the lifts arent' great and can be noisy if your in an apartment near them, hope this review helps, i added some pics

Room Tip: room, 0007 -2 or room 7 we have stayed in had goog pool views and were both studios..

We booked a 2 bedroom apartment here in 7thMay 2013. We were collected at th airport on time and checcked in to room 303 which was beautiful and spacious 2 beds 2 bathrooms etc, but we were too near the lift shaft which meant the noise from it all day and all night was unbelieveable. First thing in the morning we asked to be moved only to be told that all the 2bedroom apts were alongside the lifts. We were offerred a one bedroom apt on the ground floor room 11 which was ok during the day but at night a child was playing with a bouncy ball until 1.30 am.you pay your money and you take your chances as to who is above you or alongside you, we at least had nobody on one side of us.After two nights i enquired at reception as to know if there was any reembursment for the change of cost from the two bedroom apt to the one bed apt to which i was told NO change. I left this go as i am not one for causing a fuss at the time I am sorrry now. There was no entertainment in the bar at night and there were only 10 people there any night we called there. so it was extremly quiet. If you have walking difficulties, it is uphill to the old town and uphill to the strip. while we were there i heard ony lady giving off about sea gulls in the pool. The cleaning ladies were in every day and the place is clean but they never went out to the balcony area. My advice is look for a room at the end of corridore on the 3rd floor or one nearer the old town.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for a week in the first week of October 2012. We were travelling as a young couple and stayed in a one bedroom apartment which was on the ground floor overlooking the pool. At first when i heard we had a room on the ground floor i was slightly worried because from previous experience ground floor rooms are not very good! But this one was perfect and you were not overlooked by the people around the pool as it was set back and surrounded by bushes, we were also on the end. The apartment itself was very spacious, clean and had everything you would need in an apartment. The hotel had various activities too including squash and a games room which we enjoyed!
The staff in the hotel were extremely friendly and helpful.
The hotel itself was situated very nicely as it was a 5 minute walk to the beach, 10 minute walk to the new town, or the "strip" where there a various bars and clubs which would be for the younger generation at night! The old town was also not far but not walkable as we got a free shuttle from the hotel but this town was very pretty and also right next to the beach.
There are plenty of restaurants, bars and supermarkets around which we found very handy, i would especially recommend the Chinese restaurant right opposite the hotel. There are also many things to do in the area, we visited the zoo marine was was ok but not something to last all day and also not many paces to eat there, but would recommend seeing the dolphin show if you go! This was about a 10 minute taxi drive or a 20 minute bus ride which was cheaper but stops off at other hotels for pickup. We also visited the sand sculptures which were impressive, this was about a 15 minute taxi drive, also not a whole day out though.
Overall a very enjoyable experience and would definitely return.

just back from a week in the ondamar hotel.stayed in a two bed apartment which was huge.apartments cleaned every day and clean towels daily which was great. The hotel definatly needs some tlc but was fine for what we wanted. the chinese across the road is worth a visit and does take out as well. we visited aquashow park and had a great day, much better than zoomarine, has more for the older kids. We used YELLOWFISH TRANSFERS to and from the airport and would highly reccomend, 60e return for 2 adults and 2 kids and a free bottle of wine.it was the best price i could find.

We stayed for a week at the Ondamar in May 2013. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We have 3 young children and stayed in a two bedroom apartment. The apartment was very big and and had everything we needed. Apartment was cleaned everyday with fresh towels supplied each day. The pool was great and the children especially enjoyed the heated indoor pool. Would highly recommend this hotel to everyone. We will definitely be returning there on our next trip to Albufeira.
