“Good aparthotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

Good location 10-15 mims walk to beach, 10 mins to the strip, 15-20 mins to th old town. Very clean hotel, 2 bedrrom apartment was very spacious with 2 bathrooms, furnishings a little bit tired, but kitchen well equipt with basics. Outdoor pool was cold due to the time of year, but very nice, indoor pool and jaquzi good and very warm. Staff friendly and helpfull. Didn't use the resturant so can't comment. Chinese resturant across the road very good.

Room Tip: worth paying for a 2 bedrom appartment if you want more space

Before booking this hotel, having read the reviews I was looking forward to staying at the Ondamar hotel. First problem was the room I had booked was meant to have a pool view, what we actually got was a view of a giant roof obscuring virtually any views. When I raised this with the reception, they said they didn't have any other rooms available and couldn't do anything. The room itself was clean and tidy however the decor is very 80s and need of updating. On the second day I discovered the air/heat conditioning wasn't working, although I reported this to the reception we had to wait two cold evenings in the hotel room before it got fixed. That was only after constant complaining and being told I didn't know how to use the air conditioner and it was my fault. The worst part of the hotel was the breakfast which was absolutely appalling. The bacon was burnt, sausages under cooked, eggs were cold, beans were cold, no milk for tea, the other items looked like they were being rationed. Other guests also noticed this and after a number of complaints, they improved the quantity of food after the second day although the quality was still very poor and amongst the worst I have ever seen. Indoor swimming pool was Ok and well heated however is dangerous as it goes from about 3ft deep to about 7ft without any warning or any signage which is very dangerous for small children. Also while we used the pool, I never saw a single staff member in that vicinity. All in all this was not a great experience and there is no way this hotel should be classed as 4 star as it is absolutely not.

Lovely reception area, helpful staff. Lovely clean spacious apartment which was serviced daily but hotel facilities were poor. Indoor swimming pool ok. No sauna and gymnasium was basic. Even outdoor pool area was poor with the pool bar only open occaisionally. I noted the bins outside were never emptied whilst we were there. Never ate in the hotel after reading previous TripAdvisor reviews so cannot comment on the food. It appeared that some of the hotel was being refurbished. All in all the apartment was worth the money we paid for the week without any hotel facilities. Chinese restaurant right outside was excellent.

Room Tip: Our two bedroomed appartment was very spacious with two bathrooms.

A group of 18 men stayed here as part of a football tour in May 2012 for 5 nights. We all stayed in either 1 or 2 bedroom aparments as room only. All rooms were very similar and finsihed to a high standard. Rooms were very clean and towels, soap etc were replace every day, they were also cleaned daily too. The pool was nice too. We did not try the hotel restaurant as wanted to eat out every day/night. its a 5/10 minute walk to the main strip and beaches. Gym and indoor swimming pools were poor standard and look nothing like on their website.

Room Tip: All rooms are very similar, i would try and get a room towards the end of the building as the centra...

spent one week in the hotel with my wife ,we really enjoyed it ,it is central to the resort not too far from the strip which is about ten minutes walk or the old town which is about the same,a taxi to the old town cost about 3 euro. The staff were very friendly and helpful with information about shopping and the best things to do .The seating in the bar could do with a bit of upgrading, a bit shabby but apart from that everything else was great .We would go back again. My wife forgot one of her rings the morning we left and when we phoned on our return home the cleaner had found it and handed it in ,we got it back by post a few days later..its good to be honest.

Professional and even visitor photos can be deceptive. The hotel gardens are bounded on two sides (the ones you can see from your balcony) by the backs of surrounding apartment and restaurant backs.

Having said that, it all depends on what your expectations of a place might be, whether you've stayed in other self-catering places that were better or worse and whether you feel you have got value for money

I'd say Ondamar is ALRIGHT. (That may be damning it with faint praise!)

It is adequate but our kitchen (Room 116) was poorly equipped, especially if you really had 6 people sleeping in it - there was only my wife and I. There is no coffee machine or even a cafetiere if you want to make "real" coffee from fresh filter coffee. There is not enough crockery to be able to make good use of the dish washer. The furniture and doors are beginning to fall apart. Only one arm chair and a sofa bed in the living area. The sofa-bed is more bed than sofa.

The TV In the apartment doesn't work very well. The only English channels were BBC World News and supposedly Sky News, but Sky didn't seem available and the BBC channel reception was either extremely poor or non-existent. It still didn't work after the technician tried to fix it.

There is no in-room safe.

We had to get our dishwasher changed and even then it was a 20 year old machine that you had to discover a special knack for making it work.

If you are on the wrong side of the hotel (as we were in this respect) you pick up noise from the larger neighbouring hotel. There is a continuous extractor fan operating which makes for a non-stop background noise which you can hear in your bedroom. Not too bad if it is cool enough to sleep with your windows shut, but in hot weather I can imagine it is a real pain. Also down by the pool if the wind blows in the right direction the entertainment loudspeakers from the neighbouring hotel seem very loud.

Round the pool the loungers are showing signs of age. The non-saving your lounger policy is not enforced (at least it wasn't being when we were there late October 2012). The cushions are thin and showing signs of age, soggy and old.

The indoor jacuzzi worked once when we were there. another time apparently it had been switched off because we heard some other guests had put bubble bath into it or something. The indoor pool is very warm (very nice if you like it that way.) But there is no way to get directly from the outdoor pool to the jacuzzi. (The outdoor pool is unheated.)

PLUS points:
- the beds are firm and comfortable (twin, not double)
- there is daily room maid service (cleaning, bed making and change of towels etc)
- reception is friendly, responsive and they speak good English
- no deposit is required at check-in (at least not for us - CLC/RCI members)
- the hotel is reasonably centrally located if you want to be able to walk either to the Strip or the old town

Overall we would probably not go back there again. In fact, we are reluctant to try any RCI place through our Club la Costa connections. We have tried to get into better quality accommodation before and it is always the same story : no availability. We've then gone for alternatives on offer which do have availability and we always seem to end up in slightly down-at-heals places. We suspect it is because CLC cannot afford to secure enough availability in the better quality hotels which is a pity because CLC's own standards are high.

Booked this Hotel via Easyjet based on the tripadvisor reviews and was not disappointed. We booked a studio but were upgraded to a 1 bed with a view over the pools. The apartment was clean and comfortable and the staff were lovely and helpful. You can walk to the strip (10 mins) and also the beach and the old town (15 mins) but they do provide a free bus to the beach and old town as it is very hilly. We didn't eat or drink in the Hotel as we wanted to be out and about. If you want to book trips there is a ticket shop up the hill toward the big supermarket which has lots of 2 for 1 offers. We could only get Sky news and BBC news in English on our TV and had a few problems with the WiFi in the room but that aside it was definitely value for money.
