“girls weekend”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

We travelled as a group of four ladies for the weekend 5th-8th July.

Upon arrival we were allocated two adjacent rooms which stunk of sewerage and drains. After complaining we were then allocated a lovely 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment. The lights didn't work in the kitchen, but we didn't use the kitchen as we were all inclusive.

Food: As verandas is only a small hotel don't expect a wide variety of food. We were more than happy with the choice. There was a full English every morning as well as fruit, cereal etc.
At lunch we just ate salad as breakfast was more than adequate! Evening meal was also ok. There was usually salad, a rice/pasta dish, meat and fish, cakes and ice-cream.
Drinks were out on the table for you to help yourself to, even had sliced lemon & lime and ice! Plenty for everyone!

The bar was a bit busy at 11am when it opened, but that's to be expected! They serve fresh coffee which is why service could be a little slow! Tip for the hotel though-maybe it would be better to put the bottles of water for all-inclusive guests to get themselves?! It would save half of the queues!

So why the negative comments? Yes there were ripped seats in the bar and restaurant. Yes the sunbeds need changing, but there was lots of lilos to use for sunbathing on! The staff are worked really hard so forgive them for not smiling-they're trying their best!!

There's a taxi rank outside the shopping centre across the road. About 4euros to the old town, which was brilliant! Mc donalds, pizza hut, kfc all in the locality so if you don't like the food go elsewhere!

To sum up, we had a really great weekend in Albufeira. Varandas was a good choice in terms of distance into town. Would we stay there again? Maybe, if the place was smartened up a bit.

The food was disgusting, the sunbeds black ingrained dirt and broken, rooms smelled of drains, no air con in main areas, too few seats on patio, the pool was just green slime with seagulls swimming in it, dirty torn ripped seats, bar attendant not there most of the time and never smile, they did power wash the sunbed area and let the scum go straight into the pool and never cleaned it, there is scum around the edge of the pool, no cleaning takes place, everyone was complaining but nothing got done, they would be closed down in England, no enetertainment and no where to ahve any entertainment despite advertising regular entertainment.

Room Tip: dont go in room 408 as it stinks of drains

room was fine in hotel food was the same with no selection and badly cooked and did not cater for people with gluten and wheat intollerence even when the staff had been notified, after three days of their food I just cried and wanted to go home so we started going out for our meals my back was in bits as all the sun beds were broken what there was of them and umbrellas were broken too, pool was filthy and when the other night they power washed the stones around the pool they put all that dirt into pool and we were left with scum floating on pool. furniture was torn and rubbish every where around pool and grass and plants had shrivled up with not been given water and the pic you see on website of green grass is now gravel and weeds and rubbish. this is not a 4* hotel and it is a disgrace it has ruined our holiday not worth 650.00 each

Worst place I have ever stayed. This is definitely not 4star it's more like 2! Smells of dirty drains the pool area is so small and the sun Loungers are not even useable!! Rubbish all by the pool looks dirty. Dinners are disgusting dried up food and about 2 choices. The drinks are left out all night at dinner to help yourself well as you can I imagine they are hot who wants a hot white wine or hot coke. Short staffed took about ten minutes to get served at the bar as the bar man was doing more than one job! Dodgy area at night you wanted want to walk back to the apartments on your own All in all the worst place ever I cannot compliment anything about it. Me and my friend demanded to get moved to a different hotel it was that bad. Which we did after a day and half of hell here!

Very good value for money. The whole place has been freshly painted. The pool was clean and a very safe children's pool. We put towels on sunbeds at 8.45 which is not an unreasonable time, we always managed to get three. Distance to the old town is about a 15 min walk and well worth going down at night, when it comes alive. We upgraded to all inclusive when we arrived €50 per day for the three of us which worked out at £300 for the week, We got three meals plus afternoon snacks of Pizza, Burgers, hot dogs, or baguettes ( very tasty), and all the drinks we could manage between 11.am and 11pm. The food was lovely. breakfast, cheese, ham, yogourts, cerials, waffles, croisants, toast, plus bacon, scrambled eggs, beans, sausage (english), tomato, mushrooms. all self service. Lunch was soup, one meat dish and one fish dish with veg and potatoes, as well as lovely salads. there were 4 flavours of ice cream available as well as cakes. Help your self to wine, beer and soft drinks. This was repeated in the evening. The room was very clean, with crisp white bed linen which was changed twice during the week. The room was equipped with kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge, 2 electric rings. Table and chairs in the room as well as on the balcony. There is a large supermarket at the end of the street. The staff were all lovely and worked very hard. There is free wifi in reception. This is a great value for money hotel.

There are not enough sun beds, The room was clean and tidy. Good size.
The pool was good and the bar served good quality drinks and snacks.
The food was very good we went all inclusive 1 day so save some mon4ey and loved. I thing we saved a fortune. Friendly staff. Overall rather a bargain. Just spend a €5 on a lilo and your sorted. I think all sunbeds are uncomfortable anyway.
Overall nothing to complain about.
Great air con.

we recently stayed at this hotel, it was our second trip here and we were a little disappointed on trip. the hotel standards had dropped slightly. still good value for money but like others have said the sun loungers were rubbish, they was not enough for the volume of people staying here.
the ones that were there were of very poor quality. they were that bad that you had to go and buy a lilo to put on the top it. it had also changed to all inclusive but the bar area did not open until 11.00 in the morning so if you were self catering like us you could not get a drink or snack till after 11.00. don't think I will be returning again.

We are sorry you did not enjoy your second stay at the Varandas Hotel.
The sunloungers are being replaced, we did have a few damaged from recent guests who stayed with us.
The All inclusive package is stated before booking, whether you book direct, online or through your local travel agency, there are timetables however there are 2 snacks per day, 3 main meals and drinks from 11am-11pm.

We are sorry you would not return however are always welcome to stay again.
