“A very good place to stay.....BUT”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2007

This was our second visit to CPO. You cannot fault the overall organisation, but the booking in/out process is a long winded affair and you will have to deposit 100euros or leave credit card details. If you leave cash there is a lot of problems getting your cash back without the original receipt. The myTravel reps sell phone cards on the bus from the airport. I bought one, didn't work, changed it, didn't work and after the usual haggling with Andy The Rep got my cash back. We stayed in a studio apartment 641. They are very small and even for 2 of you it may be worth paying the extra for a bedroom. My wife was taken ill on the 2nd week. The local Doctor very good. We are now one week later and she is still unable to keep down solids. Whatever it is, it is a very unpleasant local bug, according to the Doc, who came armed with medicines for the symptoms. Dr was paid in cash, 100 for callout and 30 for medicines, no scripts. The walk to Albafuira is very pleasant and we got the road train back - PACKED! A real popular local attraction as it is so cheap. Loads of restaurants, The Happy House Chinese was my favourite, I must have had 6 takeaways and 3 buffet meals, very good value. NO, Janet was ill long after she had eaten there. She felt there was a sour, almost sewerage smell at the apartmnt as soon as we arrived, I didn't really notice. She was on bottled water throughout so I have no idea where the infection was picked up. I would repeat that the Doctor said her symptoms were 'very common', whether that relates to CPO or the resort I am not sure. She was never in the pool, I was in every day. I would recommend CPO, the staff are excellent and the pool large enough for riotous kids and swimmers. The No Inflatables/ No Diving/ No Ball Games rules are completely ignored. Everyone has fun. Loads of free sunbeds and brollies. Ample grassy areas, friendly people from all over Europe, families, couple, all ages. Remember, there are lifts, but the Cardiac Hill is very steep and there are lots of steps. You'll need to study the map to locate the short cuts to K Block and the main road. The resort supermarket is good value for money if a little limited in choice. The BIG one is excellent. All staff can and do speak English, no surly Spaniards on site! The Strip is a must and Oura is bigger than you think! If you want hassle free (after booking in) holidays (until booking out) this is an ideal all year round resort. Weatherwise, one overcast day and one of torrential rain, otherwise, in the 80's.

  • Liked — Well equipped kitchen with oven, hob, microwave and toaster. Excellent shower in the bathroom
  • Disliked — Should have gone for the 1 bedrooed apartment, studio very small.

My partner and I are in our early 30s and have just returned from CPO and I don't know what to say only that we are booking our return trip! Our studio was perfect, spotless and with everything we needed! There was a laundrette on site with self-service as well as full service. The bars were great, though we didn't eat in the retaurant, it looked great but we were busy exploring the town!
The whole complex was just so impressive, beautifully kept gardens, pool, jacuzzi, sauna, loads of sun terraces and a great pool, set at a perfect temperature! I normally prefer Old Town as it's quieter but having stayed in CPO I can honeslty say that it's a perfect little oasis just minutes walk from the strip! The best of both worlds! So called "caridac hill" isn't that bad at all and anyway you can take the lift behind the pool to floor 9 and avoid the hill if you want!
The view from our balcony was stunning and fell asleep and woke to the crash of the waves! We were so close to the beach and there are lovely bars down there on a little boardwalk, one, Vivaldo's, has happy hour from 4-6pm with a buy one get one free deal! Also great for snacks.
The Koala Garden restaurant, just off the strip was great! We actually went twice! With a great selection for vegetarians like me and my carnivore friend! He had antelope one night and ostrich the other. Great wine too and very reasonable prices, as well as a gorgeous setting!
Overall I can't give CPO a higher recommendation. We can't wait to go back! My only regret is that I went for one week and not two!

Stayed at cpo in august 06 in a 1 bed apt ,in e block overlooking the bowling green. Great location for me my partner and our 3year old son, right on the beach.Apartment was agood size and fully loaded with all the utensils you require on a self catering holiday.Swimming pool is really nice, although getting a lounger is nigh on impossible, but plenty ofgrassy areas to lie. The hotel has a kids disco at 7 pm until 8 pm which our son really enjoyed, and the entertainment staff are very friendly and good at what they do.Drinks at the cpo can be a bit on the expensive side which is my only slight grummble with the place. There aresomegreat places to eat in the surrounding areas of cpo namely , sizzling steak and wild and co also the chinese restaurant on the round about outside oura praiaThe best thing i can say about cpo is that we liked it so much we have booked to go back again in september 07 and this time we will have our new baby son with us , So role on september.

clube praia da oura is a great place for all ages, there are four bars spread on the resort. our room was on the beach front near the bowling green and ocean bar...where we chilled out and watched the bowls with a sagres or two. a great beach cafe with lovely food. not far from the montechoro strip full of disco bars and restaurants. would recomend the koala and johnny hoopers(a welshman who plays the saxophone fantastically) have to book. planning on going back to the clube praia da oura next year in the summer..loved every minute of it..we stayed in a studio which was very well equipped and had a full bathroom.

I have stayed at the Club Praia da Oura apartments 4 times now. Last time was March 06. We are going back to this area in October this year - although we could not get in here (fully booked).

It depends which block you are in. I have stayed in Block D twice, C once and Block A once.
C block is around the pool, D further to the beach & E overlooking the beach. I do think that some of the apartments are smaller than others in the complex. We did once get a one bedroomed apartment that was smaller than previous times but the location makes up for it.
We stay here because it is clean, comfortable and child friendly. Close to a few beach restaurants, supermarket and the beach.
Beakfast is very good. Once went half board but they only give you a basic choice for this so would not do that again. But the food was fine.
It is near to the start of the strip if you want to venture up Cardiac Hill which we only did once. We found all our stays quiet and relaxing and went into Albufeira town by taxi or courtesy bus if we needed more nightlife.

I have booked with Cosmos - good, direct through the hotel at Petchey Travel (try specifing which block you require)- good. The small apartment was booked through a holiday rental company website.

Just got back from apartment 705 in K block which should of been in a quiet location, it was over a road, and the dust carts came every night between 2am and 3am.

The 2bedroom apartment was basic which is a compliment, the beds were more like lumpy cots, the sofa bed was very uncomfortable to sit on, the only redeaming feature of the apartment was the wonderful Lshaped balcony, which had the sun all day long, and it was only for the balcony that we stayed there as long as we did.

We moved on the 4th day to the sister hotel OPH, much better accomadation, air conditioned and very well set up, we were in 325. When we got back that night from dinner, karaoke right under our balcony, went on till 1.30am when my husband finally complained, went to bed, and yes you've guessed it the dust carts empltying all the beer bottles at 2am.

We were moved to a wonderful resot called Colina da Lapa in Carvoeiro, but there you need a car.

CPO is in a wonderful location for the strip for people who want to party all the time. There is a little train that costs 3euros for the day to get you into the old town, you can hop on and off as often as you like.

Go to eat at Koala at the Junction of Costa Rica up the side road left hand fork, then a 5min walk, try the osterich, the kangaroo a bit chewy.

  • Liked — The very large L shaped balcony
  • Disliked — Everything except the balcony

Booked 1 year in advance, and requested a sea view or pool view, we were given an electric generator view, 10 of them to be precise ! noisey buzz 24 hours a day. I know requests are not guaranteed, but what chance have you got booking a year in advance, and end up with what we got. There was building work going on too, 8 hours a day, banging and drilling, which we wernt informed of either. We booked a studio, looked lovely on the photos, the whole studio was smaller than any of my bedrooms at home, you couldnt swing a cat, when the 2 single beds (no changed sheets all week) were made up. The fridge opened against a wall and no space to get in it, the oven door opened to fill width of the kitchen, the bathroom door hit the toilet, when opening, and you had to get it turn round to shut the door. But, on the good side, it was clean on arrival, although outdated fixtures like tiling, bath, shower, doors ect very old and tatty. The complex overall had a nice position by a beach, nice resteraunt, lounge, entertainment and pool. It is however, a hike up to the main strip of shops and bars, its short, but very very steep. If you geet a nice apartment, it will make all the difference, but alot are at the back facing a wall too.

  • Liked — sea views, but we didnt get one
  • Disliked — the studio apartments, especially the ones by the noisey generators
