My boyfriend and I stayed here for one week self catering. The apartment was very big, old decor but who goes on holiday to sit in the apartment! The only bad thing about apartment was there was a leak underneath sink in bathroom we reported it and a man came up scratched his head, then went and said he would send someone else up which didn't happen! We stayed in room 308. The staff were friendly, didn't eat here as ate out most if the time. Facilities in the apartment were fine, everything you needed was there. Hotel is 10 mins from the strip and about 20 mins walk to old town or 4 euros in taxi! Which i thought was cheap. The pool area was lovely, also a very nice beach at the bottom of the strip. Hotel is close to mcdonalds and KFC - free wi fi, unlike the hotels expensive wi-fi! We went to the bullfighting which was ok, an experience you could say! Is ok to see what the culture is like but felt for the poor bull. We also went on a bar crawl which was great fun!!

Overall this hotel is a great location for couples and families, we had a great time!

Upon arrival at the hotel after checking in with a very friendly guy at the desk we got to our room after wandering the dark tedious corridor. Our patio sliding door was broken and so I had to bodge it to make sure nobody could get in from the otherwise, other than this the stay was fine the tv was ok the beds were ok and the aircon worked great. The hotels location was spot on for us.. Based I between the old and the new town a taxi cost a few euro either way. We typically spent out days in the old town and on fisherman a beach, and the nights in the new town until the small hours of the morning! Fantastic nightlife! Also next to the hotel is a big mall, shops sports bars and fast food takeaways like McDonald's and Burger King. The hotel has a lot of facilities the bar was ok but the entertainment was for older people. Overall great location, clean rooms and good customer service, good facilities and ideal for families, and younger people alike

We booked the Paraiso for a week with Thomas Cook from 3rd October. Like many others we read the reviews on here before our holiday and were a little worried about what we would find. However, the hotel definitely isn't as bad as people are making out. We stayed in room 652 which is on 6th floor of the hotel facing the main road. With hindsight, we would have definitely requested a pool view as the sun shines constantly on the back of the hotel. The room was a little dated but was clean. The beds were average but there were extra pillows and blankets in the wardrobe which we used to make things a little comfier. The kitchen facilities in the room were good, we had a microwave, toaster, 4 hobs, grill, kettle and fan oven. The air conditioning was free. The bathroom was clean with plenty of towels. The maids cleaned the rooms daily and beds were made up daily.

The hotel facilities were brilliant. There was a massive outdoor pool, mini golf, tennis courts, 2 heated indoor pools and a hot tub which was lovely to sit in. There is a health club at the hotel, a games room, a hairdresser, a restaurant (we did not try the food), a club underground and a bar on the third floor which is the main floor as you walk into the hotel. There is a pool bar by the outdoor pool serving snacks and we would not recommend the food as it is overpriced and horrible. This was our only complaint of the whole holiday.

Thomas Cook's entertainment team were excellent and there were plenty to do for children and after 9pm there were games and quizzes etc for grown ups.

The location of the hotel is brilliant, it is a 10 minute walk to the new town and a 10 minute walk to the old town. There is a taxi rank about a minute away if you turn left out of the hotel and it costs between 3 and 4 euros to go to either the old or new town. There is a massive supermarket just by this taxi rank and a smaller supermarket across the road where a 750ml bottle of vodka cost only 5 euros. There is a Chinese restaurant next to the hotel but we found this overpriced and average. You can get a free map of the strips restaurants and bars from outside the chinese.

The best food of the holiday was definitely in The Cockerel Country Kitchen, we paid 19 euros for 2 drinks and 2 meals and cost 4 euros in a taxi from the hotel taking 2 minutes to get there.

After reading other reviews we can say that we saw no cockroaches at the hotel and the staff were very polite and not rude as other people were saying. We would definitely come again as Albufeira is an excellent place to visit with the busy new and old towns with plenty to do.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view as the back of the hotel is where the sun shines all day. You will not get any s...

I visited this hotel in september 2013 where we stayed for 12 nights with my 7 year old and husband. I dont understand why this hotel has bad reviews....

Yes its dated and may not be seen as a four star due to the decor. However the rooms are huge we stayed in rm 607, it was a good size and great with us being self catering. The room was cleaned daily with daily towel changes and the bedding changed once in our stay.

The pool is a great size and with time of year we went it was busy but always able to get a sunbed. I did get up early to get sunbed nearer pool to keep an eye on son.... this is somthing many do. However pool is very slippy at edge so be careful. Sunbeds are free but if you want a soft matress on top and you are not all inclusive it is two euros each. If all inclusive you do get these free as well as towels.
There is pool side enterainment from 10.30-5pm as well as evening entertainment until 11pm in club glam from the thomas cook crew... they were fantastic. They were very good with my son and could not fault them. They were fab at getting all involved and very friendly. Think i may have lost some dignity in club glam lol.

The eveing entertainment from thomas cook is brill... steph has an amazing voice, only down side is club glam is on ground floor and appears to have a slight smell in their toliets... think this may be due to it not being used at some point for a while.
The kids club is brill to, Jade was fantastic, you do pay extra for this but resonibiliy priced.

There are singers on every night on level thee main floor, and portugues night was always wed and a sat, with locals coming i belive to join in.

I cannot state about food as we ate out, but their is close supermarkets two mins from hotel. It is about 10 mins from new town, on the right past the snake rounabout. And old town is about 20-30 mins walk. When walking to old town i did find its very down hill... coming back up hard lol. Also parts of walk way apeeared to be slippy with sandles on... girls be careful.

Aquashow park is a must to vist, it was a fantastic day out for all the family.

We did go on a boat trip which was not so great, they failed to tell us that you will have to get off the main boat and on to a dingy to go to small private beach. On this trip we had a family of about 20 people who could not walk therefore as they had walking stickes and zimmer frames who were unable to get of into the dingy as its a bit of a leap of faith... a jump. This trip was booked at the ticket office just outside this hotel... before booking a boat trip please ensure its for you. We was also promised a BBQ on the private beach which never happened. They brought pre cooked steak and a breadcake, salad and crisps.... not what we was promised. However we put this down to a bad experiance and moved on as didnt want to let it spoil our holiday.

Overall we would most certainly book this hotel again... its decor is dated but this to me is the main and only fault. Wonderful holiday and hotel staff are fantastic.

Room Tip: ask for ppol view as will get sun on balcony, non pool view wont.
