“All In All a Fantastic Holiday!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

We have just got back from a ten night family holiday to Portugal. The Paraiso hotel was a little bit run down. There were cracks in the tiles around the pool but in fairness by the end of our holiday there were people fixing them. We also had to move rooms because of a faulty air conditioning. We got a lovely replacement room with a pool view!
We went all inclusive and the food was fantastic! There was a different selection each night, every one seemed happy and we never had to queue for food or drinks.
I've read some of the other reviews and lots of people complain about the sun beds but we got one every time.
The kids disco was fantastic, the entertainers were great and every one seemed to love them.
all in all a fantastic holiday!

Al inclusive is a sham food poor bar service a joke rooms outdated this hotel is in middle of nowhere so need to spend loads of money on taxis if you can get one ,not suitable for disabled persons lots of stairs would recommend going self catering as there is a huge supermarket in walking distance this hotel is very outdated needs updating needs dropping down to a 2 star think the pictures were taken 20years ago . Cleaners are the only pleasant staff.

We stayed here for 8 nights at the beginning of August, our family includes 2 teenagers.
We stayed on a B&B basis, fair selection of food on offer each morning but often a struggle to get a table to sit at. Hotel is very large and quite dated in parts, rooms good do with makeover!
My kids enjoyed entertainment around the pool but my husband had to get up before 7am each morning to get us a sunlounger, first couple of mornings they were all taken when we arrived to pool area at 11am!
Travellers beware of Travelshop offering excursions and shuttles to airport just outside hotel gates. I booked an early morning transfer for the 5 of us on the day we were flying home, transport arrived almost 1 hour late, a minibus with no seabelts, we had sat in the lobby from 6:55 waiting on it and missed our breakfast. We almost missed our flights, i had paid an extra fee for private shuttle but they have not even responded to my emails. Very poor service would never use them again.
Next time would book a smaller hotel closer to Old Town and beach. Took us good 20 mins to walk to Old Town each evening.

Ok.in my view not a 4 star hotel, needs a coat of paint and tidying up. Wi fi in hotel but u have to pay for it and can only be used in reception area not in rooms! But the worst bit is that people are still reserving sun beds by the pool with towels! Even though there are signs up saying that you cannot reserve beds! So we had to do same thing so by about 8 am all sun beds were gone! Also found that some staff were not helpful as we're too busy! Breakfast was ok but sometimes had to wait for table, did not have lunch or evening meal as we went to the old town in evening for meals.

Booked this holiday over 12 months before travelling and was so looking forward to it however we were very disapointed. Upon our arrival we were issued the usual wristbands but were also given 4 swipecards that we were told we had to use everytime we went to the restaurant or bar, we were also asked to leave our passports overnight so they could scan our photos to the room card. This meant that everytime the card was swiped it showed all 4 of us so they could check we were in that room. The card became a real pain, there was no just calling to the bar after getting out of the pool, you had to go back to get your card, this wasn't just a pain it meant long queues. Adults were only allowed 2 alcholic drinks at a time but even more stupid was children were only allowed to get 1 soft drink at a time. My daughter often went to the bar to get herself and my son a drink and was refused, she told them it was for her brother but the staff refused her. If she was asking for 6 drinks I could understand but she was asking for 2 and our card showed there were 2 children in that room. This was so annoying. There are nowhere near sufficient sunloungers for the size of the hotel and there are very few unbrellas, most people did as we did and bought their own. The hotel then put all these in a hutand reuse them, however most are broken. The food is the worst all inclusive we have ever had, very little choice. The dining room is in the basement next to the smelly entertainment room. Quite a few times while we were eating water was dropping on us. The entertainment room was very dark, smelly and hot. The smell hit you the minute you walked in. It is a shame because the entertainment team are fantastic and work very hard, infact they were about the best part of the hotel. The pool had so much chlorine in it. On an evening we saw the pool maintenance man throwing buckets full of chlorine into the pool and stiring it with a stick, no measuring or testing. Both my children ended up with an ear infection and we had to go to the medical centre where we were told it is the chlorine that caused the infection, they were both in pain for days and upon our return we have found out my sons ear is perforated. The hotel also really caters for the locals, the upstairs bar often is quite full of locals dancing to the entertainment. I didn't find this a problem however on the Saturday night we were downstairs in the entertainme. Room when at 11 o clock we were all asked to leave because they rent the room out as a night club. I was disgusted with this the holidaymakers have paid thousands of pounds to go to this hotel only to be asked to move out so the locals can have the room as a nightclub. I really feel fhe holiday companies should make their customers aware of all these issues before people book because if I was aware of all this I would not have booked. There are a few positives, not many but these are the location, ideally placed between the lovely old time and the strip. The rooms are a very good size and plenty of activities to do.
Please look at the grade of this hotel, it is not 4 star and holidaymakers are misled by this.

ok so im just back and i dont ever complain but.. 4 star this place is not....internet browsers in the hotel lobby were out of date, shower head was broken and covered in rust, no remote for the very old TV, broken tiles in the indoor swimming pool, tiled areas around the outdoor pool very grubby/mouldy, glass in the lifts looked like it had never been cleaned, the beds were too hard....the list is endless. There were guests slamming doors during the night and kids running up and down at 3 in the morning. If the staff at the main desk could do less they would. There was a life guard but he only sat in a hut reading a book and selling cushions for the sun loungers. It was impossible to even get a sun lounger unless you got up at the crack of dawn. The room itself was very small and our balcony faced a wall/car park. We asked to be moved but were refused. We had 2 beds pushed together and our 5 year old slept in a camper bed that was practically in the kitchen because the room was so small. The room decor was totally out dated and there were small holes in the curtains. The pictures in the brochure are very misleading - this hotel was probably 4 star about 15 years ago but they have allowed the standard to drop due to lack of maintenance. We stayed in one of the First Choice holiday villages in Albufeira (Balaia) 2 years ago which was also graded as 4 star - this hotel actually was 4 star and we could not fault it. We expected the same standard at the Paraiso but were left disappointed and ripped off. If climbing stairs is your passion or waiting on a lift this is the place for you. Not sure who gives out the stars in Portugal but some one should get a ladder and remove one from the exterior of this place (thats if they even have a ladder)....
