“Not for me.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

We are a family of three and have just returned after a week at the Paraiso. We stayed on an all inclusive basis and our first impressions were fine. The room we had wasn't ready but it was no big deal and went for lunch when we got in the room it was large (apartment) and was very clean but a little dated. The hotel itself is okay and only needs a few adjustments to make a big difference. There is not enough sunbeds and as the week got on i had to get up earlier to get 3 and had no chance unless i had stayed up all night of being round the pool. The hotel has loads of space and could use some of this for a second pool which would cure all of this as this was a topic of conversation around the hotel i'm sure it would help with repeat custom. The hotel staff are pleasant enough but there are nowhere near enough of them with queue's at most of the bars at peak times and bins and tables with rubbish and glasses piling up.The restaurants and the food are okay not a massive choice but what there is is good, however there is no outside space to eat your evening meal as your in the dungeon and have the worlds loudest kiddy disco to listen to while your having dinner. Both the bars are inside which is bizarre considering it is 30 degrees with only a few tables for smokers on the balcony and for us we much prefer to sit out on holiday. The worst thing about our week there were the customers we may have been unlucky but you get the feeling based on the tacky entertainment that this is a Benidorm style hotel with lots of large groups of people gettting louder and louder and lots of screaming young kids running around with most of them wearing an array of football tops bought for the holiday to show off there colours and that is just the parents. We have been to dozens of all inclusive hotels but it is our first time in Portugal,The Old Town is really nice and had two meals out at the(il brigante) and the (omanjar)these a good value and quality food and it made a pleasant change to sit down and be served at your table Finally if you have young kids and don't mind chav city you will have a good time but if your a couple or have an older (teen) like us i would give the hotel a miss which is a shame because it is in a good spot.

Room Tip: Book an apartment as they are worth the extra as they have lots of room and wardrobe space our's...

Stayed in July 2013, in a studio apartment. Rooms are dated however we had oven/hob/microwave/toaster/air con, no hairdryer/iron. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Good facilities in hotel grounds. Lovely pool but impossible to get sunbed because of the usual, people putting towels on them and then leaving!! however plenty of grass area around the pool which was quite comfortable to lie on. I would recommend asking for a room on one of the higher floors (there are 8), we were on 5, could here some noise from below 1 or 2 nights but nothing that would cause real disturbance. The new town is 5 mins walk to the right of hotel, old town about 5 mins taxi (€4) to the left. We went to water/theme park Aquashow (€33 each), not that impressed;3 rides & approx. 6 slides, looked great in brochure!

The hotel was very basic, menu very poor for choice, reception staff were very un friendly and everything was a bother for them!
Althought Lee, Jordan , Megal and stepf from the Thomas Cook entertainment team made up for all the errors of the hotel, they catered from young and old with their package and would be the only reason why we would return to this hotel.
It is by far the best entertainment crew we have seen within our 15 years of traveling abroad on holidays. They are a true assets to Thomas cook, as they rep for our holiday lacked personality . Well done Thomas cook entertainment team.

We stayed at this hotel at the beginning of July 2013. We had been twice before and really enjoyed our stay, however this time our stay was awful. The staff were ok but if you want a sunbed you've not no chance unless you are down at the pool before 7am. For such a large hotel there are not enough sunbeds and the staff just shrugged their shoulders. The food was very bland and much the same day after day. At night there were 2 bar staff on for a full lounge so that there were queues and the staff certainly weren't in a hurry to serve. The entertainment for kids was great but if you are looking for adult entertainment at night look elsewhere as it was awful. I certainly won't be back at this hotel.

We stayed for 8 nights in Paraiso in a studio road facing room B & B with my 2 and 1/2 year old and husbund, the hotel itself is one of the biggest in the Albuferia, yes it is dated with a small portable tv very uncomfortable beds, but room was cleaned every day and sheets dressed, fresh towels, The majority of studio rooms face the road only 5 studio rooms face the pool, there is loads of storage in the studio itself we wanted an apt but was not available. the breakfast was ok you'd find something to eat, the bar service all over the hotel was extremely slow always only one bar person on in such a huge hotel was ridiculous, ice cream stock was always very limited. people were out at 5.30am putting down the towels on the beds by the pool which was crazy and u have to pay 2 euro for the "mattress". Pool was always busy but u would find a spot for urself. the entertainment team are very energetic and entertaining my daughter loved the mini disco from 8 to 9. the hotel is 15 min walk each way to new and old town, new town is full of lively pubs, and old town much more family orientated with restaurants and yes bars too with lovely cobbled streets. if ur self catering when u come out of the hotel turn left theres a big supermarket named "Continent" great prices in there, tasty food.

Room Tip: Please try and get a room facing the pool on a high floor anything from floor 4 upwards

Went self-catering and glad we did as entertainment poor for the time of year. Not much going on until New Year which was fantastic except it rained!! Though only night it did over our whole holiday. 23 Dec 2012 to 3rd Jan 2013.

PLUS point is location is fantastic in that it is right in the middle of Old Town and New Town. Also crazy golf on site and pool lovely. For a summer holiday I expect it would be great.

We stayed at this aparthotel 2nd-9th July. We chose the perfect place for our first holiday away together.

When checking in the staff were very lovely and they spoke clear English. You receive a remote for the air con and if you hire the safe you have to pay a daily fee of 2.50 euros(17.50 for a week) and a deposit of 25 euros which you get back at the end of your holiday. We took and extra 50 euros because we had read that there was a deposit for the room incase you broke anything, however we never had to pay this, so think they have stopped doing this now!
We were in room 764. The room was spacious and it had two single beds with a pillow on each but there was two extra pillows in the wardrobe which we both used. We didn't really use the kitchen apart from the fridge to keep the water & alcohol cold. The air conditioning was good but it only worked for the first day.
We asked reception what time the pool was open, 9AM-7PM and she said that we could not reserve sunbeds. The next morning we went down to the pool just before 9 to see what the pool/sunbathing area was like, ALL THE SUNBEDS WERE GONE. People had reserved them from 7am.....we wasn't really happy about this but from then on I went down too the pool and got our sunbeds around 7.30am.
Every morning we would walk to this delicious bakery on the corner of the strip, just over 5 euros for breakfast!! It was amazing. The strip is about 10/15 mins walk, sometimes it did take us a bit longer because of the heat! When you get to the strip the two first bars cafe del mar and second bar are amazing! The staff are friendly and the drinks are reasonable prices. Cocktails are 5 euros in happy hour which either finished art 9 or 10pm. There are a reasonable amount of restaurants on the strip which all do the same sort of food. There was one restaurant that I would recommend that anyone should go to! Its on the corner upstairs (can't rememeber the name) we went there twice and both had chicken kebabs, best meal all holiday.
Also we walked to the old town, took us about 20 mins...think we got a bit lost! there's a square which is full of restaurants & there are plenty of bars for cocktails and drinks. We came to the old town on the night too which the atmosphere was more lively, we ate in a restaurant called Bank, would highly recommend this restaurant if you love steak! however you get bread and butter which we thought we free....BIG CON its not free at all.
The beach is lovely, there's 3 different beaches that we found...one on the end of the strip, one in the old town and one about 15 mins from the hotel.
We did not eat in the hotel however we had a drink round the pool one day, the cups are so small!!! would not pay 2 euros. I couldn't really see how this hotel was all inclusive, defiantly only should be self catering!
Also, take your own hair dryer, iron, beach towel etc as the room doesn't have any. However if you are all inclusive you get towels, umbrellas and sunbed protectors.
Overall, we loved our first holiday in Portugal, we would come back again but maybe stay somewhere different! But I defiantly would recommend this for a first holiday away!! :)
