“great value vale de carros”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2014

Went to vale de carros in june with my friend had a great time , staff were really good, it was clean and comfortable. The only down side for us were we made sure we booked before the school holidays , there were lots of children, if you want peace and quiet ask to stay away from the bar. We would both stay there again . Great value for money.

Room Tip: Ask to stay on the upper level , it feels safer.

We stayed in two apartments with another couple. We asked for apartments next to each other at the quiet end of the complex , which was what we got. The apartments have both good and bad aspects , with the good outweighing the bad. They are very basic and in need of refurbishment and our lavatory wobbled precariously each time it was used! The sunbeds are nailed to the ground and there are far too few.But that's all on the negative side. The positives about this complex are that the grounds are very picturesque and the 'quiet ' pool is just that. Each block has only four apartments(two up and two down) with a common entrance, which is very good on the security front. The terraces or balconies are spacious with two rather space age-looking sunbeds and a retractable clothes line, which is very practical. The staff are pleasant and helpful. We only went to the bar on one occasion, but it was not to our taste, but that does not mean that we should all like the same things from a holiday. Overall I would say that this was excellent value for money and we really loved the location.

I stayed here with my cousin mid oct. it is towards the end of the season, so was probably quieter, so perfect actually. The villas are basic but clean. They have all you need and are comfortable. two swimming pools and lovely terraces to sunbath in private. The staff are fantastic! Special thank you to Joan, Diva, Paulo and the reception staff.
We had a wonderful time and would recommend to friends or families. You can eat and drink at the on site bar, or there are a couple of restaurants a few minutes walk. Also, you can walk to a near by supermarket. Alberferia is a 15 minute drive and lots going on there, great bars, restaurants etc. We will definitely go back. Great value for money.

got to be honest found the apartments ok for what we paid, me and the hubby stayed here end of August for 2 weeks, my priority is cleaniness and it was clean, the beds and towels were changed every 3rd day and the staff were very approachable and helpful, but because when we are on our happy hols we like to get out and about early and explore no matter what time we get in we found it bizarre that the breakfast was not served until 9.00 as everything shuts down in the complex at midnight along with everywhere else in the village and the village restaurants do not open until 10am, so we would either wait or get the bus into Albufeira and eat there, maybe that is ok for some people but I don't want to cook on holiday as do that everyday at home, and the reason we go self catering is to have a choice of where to eat and at what time as we have tried 'all inclusive' and that wasn't for us, maybe I am being a bit hyper critical, also got to say the beds are a nightmare, no way if you are with a partner can you get close to them the most me and him have been apart is the 2 weeks spent in 'Vale de Carros' ha ha! anyway the good points are the complex has lovely gardens, but our health and safety would have a field day there are sprinklers everywhere to water the gardens which you can see of a day time but let me tell you in the night they are a danger as they are not the 'pop' up variety but little metal sprinklers and if you are not careful you could easily come a cropper! have to mention Nelsons Bar, Joseph is a lovely man and will welcome you with open arms, his beer is cheap and my god the measures are good! Hugos, Lagoisteras, Chinese Restaurant, are all great places to eat and meet great people, we met loads of lovely people at the complex but were totally amazed by the people who go back year after year sometimes 4 times a year? will honestly say for people with children it is ideal but to be honest if we where to go back to Portugal again would stay in Albufeira

My partner and I have been visiting Vale de Carros since 2003, only missed one year.

The two-storey white-washed apartments and studios are set in clusters around beautifully maintained gardens and are furnished in typical Portuguese style - heavy pine furniture, which may not be to everyone's taste. Ground floor one-bedroom apartments have a patio/garden area and first floor studios have an enormous balcony.

There are two swimming pools, one by the bar/restaurant and a smaller one further down the complex which is so, so peaceful. Food in the bar/restaurant is excellent quality and very reasonably priced. Breakfasts (lots of options to choose from) are served until mid-day and
snacks and main meals are available until 9 pm.

Vale de Carros is set in a peaceful location (but don't forget that this is Portugal so expect cockerels shouting early morning). It is only a five minutes walk to Acoteias where there are bars, restaurants, newsagent and well-stocked supermarket. Restaurants range from Portuguese, Italian and Chinese and highly recommended is Hugos, where Hugo and his wife serve wonderful snacks and main meals throughout the day and evening.

Vale de Carros is ideal for parents with young children and for couples but maybe would not suit older teenagers (too quiet). But the bright lights of Albufeira are only a ten minutes taxi drive away (cost around 12 Euros)

We love it and will hopefully return next year.

Ok good things, studio rooms great for Sun bathing. Staff in the bar great, Maids unpleasant, reception nice. Now the bad, pool- had dead flys floating in it and not cleaned daily as mentioned in previous reviews. Rooms- was not cleaned prior to our arrival, what I believe to be pubic hairs found in the bed also in the bathroom and even the freezer!! Be warned there is not a daily maid service. The shuttle bus only goes to one beach at 10am and returns at 2pm, this has to be booked a day before. Mosquitoes are a pain so buy a plug in from reception or the supermarket which is cheaper. The single beds are very uncomfortable and they have a bar down one side, so if a romantic getaway is on the cards this is not the place. if you want a lively night out it will cost a bit in taxis, this place is miles away from anywhere.

A last minute get away, and expecting the worst we were surprised by the size and cleanliness of the apartment, the helpful staff, and a daily maid service when self catering!
Room was very ample for the two of us with a large veranda as well, open plan with bed area kitchen area dinning area, small but clean bathroom with only a shower (other rooms do have baths) and the huge balcony/veranda.
5 minutes walk to bank, supermarket, tobacco and newspaper shop, 20 mins walk to the beach.
It has food in the bar 9.00am till 9.00pm, drinks till midnight, a swimming pool and pool area cleaned every day.
All in all a really good place, I would visit again, only thing that needs doing is levelling the pool table
