We stayed at the Brisa Sol February 19-27, 2007 and enjoyed it very much. We paid $707 CAD pp for flight/hotel for 8 nights. A great buy!!!! I had been meaning to do this recap when I got back last year but got too busy. Now that I am planning another trip I decided to come back and give a review. I know that the good reviews here were instrumental in our choosing this locale.
When we arrived we were greeted by friendly welcoming staff. There was a bit of a wait for our room but it was no problem to wait in the comfortable lobby after the long ride from the airport. We were pleased with the spacious room with a great pool view (see pics). The sun exposure was amazing and brightened the apartment. The pool view is definitely worth it. The room was very clean and neat. It had 2 twin beds in the master bedroom and 2 beds in the living room which doubled as couches. There were separate temperature controls for each area which was nice. However the a/c unit was quite noisy. The kitchenette was well stocked with dishes, silverware, pots, glasses, toaster, microwave, small fridge, freezer, stove and sink.
There were large closets in the main bedroom with a safety deposit box which cost 10€. There was no wireless internet and I had my laptop so I went across the street to the NetKafé. It was 1.5€ for half an hour, as opposed to 1€ for 10 min at the hotel in the basement on an ancient computer. It would be nice if they could refurbish the rooms to make it more updated.
The bathroom was large but had a weird handheld shower that splashed all over the place. It was very awkward. Another issue was the water shortage. There was no water for almost 24 hours! Apparently a water main broke in town due to the city doing a repair on the pipes. That was not cool. We ended up buying bottled water next door at the supermarket. And we went out to eat.
The food at the hotel was excellent! We had the buffet breakfast for 10€ which included bacon, eggs, sausage, ham, beans, croissants, toast, pastries, various cheeses, yogurt, fruit salad, pineapple, peaches, orange and pineapple juice, coffee tea and hot chocolate. Dinner buffet was 15€ with the menu posted each day in the elevator. We ordered in Chinese food for dinner one night- Jing Dho had fast delivery, hot food, good prices and delicious cooking. Skip the pizza place across the street. The food was horrible! It was all you can eat and we did not even order seconds. McDonald’s across the street was good for a cheap snack.
We booked a trip to France at the travel agency across the street in the corner behind the shops. Good service. Shopping was great in Old Town… I ended up having to buy an extra suitcase from the market. The deals were better than the new strip. Excursions are cheaper there too. Book there instead of at the hotel (eg. daytrip to Silves). We used the trolley and it was well worth it- 3€ for a day pass. There were 3 stops and you could get on and off. The weather was sunny and beautiful for the end of February. It even got up to 21ºC. The range was 18-21ºC and people were sunning by the pool and a few even swam.
The staff was wonderfully friendly and helpful and we would go back in a minute! Just reading over my travel journal is bringing back beautiful memories. If you have any questions you can email me.
