“Beach, good shadow under the pine trees and good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2014

If you want to go to an hotel and leave your car at the beginning of your stay and only pick it up again X days later, Balaia is a very good choice. The staff is nice, food is very good and the beach is wonderful. The GO and the GE took really care of us. It was a nice stay.

Room Tip: Choose a room at la Pyramide and ask for it to be away from the main bar.

This was our first experience of Club Med and it won’t be our last. It was a really fantastic experience for the five adults and the two 14 month old grandsons.
The good experience started with the staff in the Club Med London office who quickly and succinctly answered all our queries, which gave us a smooth start for the run up to our week’s holiday at Da Balaia.
We landed at Faro and quickly found the Club Med desk near to the exit where we were greeted and given room labels for our baggage and our room keys. We were then shown to our minibus and taken to Da Balaia.
On the Monday morning the two twins were taken to Baby Club Med where they were very well looked after from 0900 to 1700. There were some initial worries about how they would cope and how well they would be looked after but these were quickly dispelled and they really enjoyed their time there. At the end of the week they loved going in the morning and weren’t too keen on leaving later in the day! Indeed all the staff at Da Balaia were very baby/ child friendly. Facilities for babies extended to a special part of the restaurant with baby/ child food, cutlery, small chairs etc., but high chairs were also positioned around the restaurant. There were also rooms in the hotel for baby feeding with food available.
The food was amazing with different themes and offerings every lunch and dinner and the desserts were real waste line destroyers but worth having and making up for with walks, swimming etc. The standard of the food was absolutely superb and there was good house wine to complement it.
There were many facilities and we only tried petanque, tennis and swimming between us. We found a nice grassy area behind the pool with plenty of sun loungers and shade provided by pine trees.
It was a fantastic holiday which we would strongly recommend and it provided a welcome break for the twin’s parents. Go and try it, you won’t be disappointed.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms overlooking the garden in the Pyramid have a nice terrace.

We love Club Med 4 trident resorts and this was our 5th resort, however this one disappointed us. There are 3 hotels in this resort, the worst being the Golf hotel, which is tired, dirty, shabby and in desperate need of a renovation. The Pyramid hotel and La Tour hotel are much better but if you ask to move to one of these other hotels you will be asked to pay. Our room had more cracked tiles than not, dirty rust coloured grout, yellow/brown water, taps nearly hanging off, unstable bath, broken curtains, fridge not working, only a small hook to lock the patio doors and only 3 sockets(one for the fridge and 2 for the bedside lamps), no reading lights.
The food was good, the GOs were friendly but this resort lacked the usual polish and the wow factor that we have come to expect from Club Med.
We will not be staying here again but if you choose to, on booking I would recommend you ask for a room in the Pyramid or Tour hotel.

We recently stayed here for a weeks holiday with a 6 month old and 2 and a half year old. The hotel facilities were excellent with a particular highlight of the holiday being the Baby Club and Petit Club where we signed up our two children for the period of the break.

When the time came to leave our son was sad to not be seeing the ladies at the Petit Club and made a point of wanting to see the but especially Ella who had looked after him for most of our stay there. The young lady who looked after our daughter called Sophie was in tears when we left the Baby club for the last day and we were really very pleased with the childcare service they offered.

This obviously meant that we were free to enjoy the hotels facilities for the majority of the stay and we certainly did. The pool area is lovely, with an excellent bar, and the food in the restaurant is really very good for a buffet. At meal times you are meeted and greeted by the management and when they are on site the staff are very friendly, perhaps the best example of this was Maria the head of Kids Club going around and spending a little bit of time with every child in the dining room area, and whenever she happened to pass them on site.

We enjoyed the spa facilities each having two fantastic massages, and compared to our last holiday with Thompsons the trip was fantastic. We can't recommend the resort enough!

Just back from our 5th time in Da Balaia where we always have such a great time! So many positive things to say about this beautiful club...A massive thank you to the amazing Ana Rita and her team (Camille, Kevin, Alissa) for opening a kids club for children aged 4+. Our children had the time of their lives and my husband and I had a chance to rest by the pool, play tennis and have lunch and dinner on our own. The children had a fab time with their friends doing lots of activities such as mini golf, tennis, crazy signs, beach, disco etc... such a great idea Ana!!!!!!! Thank you :-)
A great big thank you to Julie for the tennis lessons, Dario and Mirko for their kindness and humour, David for wearing the bracelet that my daughter Capucine made for him for the whole week (how sweet is that? Thank you to andrea too for doing the same!) Marie for the quality of the shows - the GOs work hard all day and still find time to rehearse the shows which are always great quality, entertaining and fun! A great big thank you to Bradley at the reception who has an AMAZING voice and Andrea who made sure that all our questions were answered and to James for dancing with our daughter Capucine and teaching her the crazy signs. The SPA team was very welcoming too and was often seen offering free hand massages by the pool, thank you Natalie, Laura (for a great massage and Vanessa)!
Every GO was welcoming and showed an interest in the children and us.
The food was simply fabulous.
Well done to Daniele for managing such a great team who will make your holidays special.

Just returned from a lovely stay at this hotel. As many others have said thecrooms are dated and the whole place coild do with a lick of brighter paint but you soon see past this and it doesnt impact on the holiday.

I loved the arrival to some up energy music and loads of GO's making you welcome.

the lead language is french and a lot of activites are led in this language but for us non french speakers it was good fun trying to figure out what was going on. Also, there are more than enough English speakers to help you out.

now the food, what can I say. SIMPLY AMAZING. The choices every lunch and dinner were countless. There was always a few of the same dishes every meal (burgers, pasta, fish) but in addition to this there was probably 8 other dishes to choose from. And dont get me started on the deserts.

my only real complaint is that the pool was very cold. I have an 18 month old who loves the water and was desperate to spend time in the pool but after less than 10 minutes was so cold we had to come out. I know in the hot summer months this isn't an issue but for spring months it really needs to be looked at.

All in all though a lovely stay and we will be back, perhaps in June though.
