“Mosquito mayhem”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2010

My wife and I stayed half board at the Auramar 17th-24th December it rained very heavily every single day, the reception and bar staff were very friendly and helpful, but, we were not pleased with the restaurant waiters. As a chef myself, I was not at all impressed with the food on offer. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel as a bed and breakfast only as the breakfast was reasonable. the bigggest problem we had was the resident mosqito population as they seemed to enjoy the food on offer- the guests!!!
one nice surprise was that the hotel left me a birthday cake in our room on my birthday, it was very good.

Clean, adequate, value for money. My break was out of season late December, there were a few older people getting away from the UK winter. Had a lovely room with front views. The indoor pool was warm no probs. The bus into town was available pity had to wait 4 hrs plus for return to hotel, but never mind. 2 english channels on tv get over it? There's roughly 2 ch.s on tv for each different language. are you there for the tv? Overall staff were grand, Had a cheap out of season break for £170.00. Views location were very good, My last day was abit marred decided to have dinner at the restaurant on site, big mistake 15 eruros! Food was rubbish, but you learn. Just use the place as a location and you'd be fine.

Read all the reviews and was a liitle worried about what was said. Still got three nights with flights for £69!. On arrival the reception was efficient and we were shown to our room. Wow! what a surprise. A very large room with a two balconies, one looking over the hotel gardens and swimming pool the other with a view of the Atlantic. Had a kitchen with microwave, fridge, toaster and all the cooking utensils you would need. Never used them as we eat out but will bear in mind for a future stay. Maid service every day. Bathroom good and clean. We were on a B&B basis, so tried breakfast the first day at the hotel. Perfectly ok, and with the cooked buffet breakfast we also had ham and cheese rolls which were good. I think the moans about the food are from people with very high expectations. A full english breakfast like an english cafe would make is only £3-4 at one of many places near to the hotel. Your on holiday, treat yourself. In the same respect why go full board when there a many local restaurants serving a variety of food ie steaks, fish, etc, etc, at reasonable prices. A taxi to various parts of Albufeira will only cost £2-3. Would recommend this hotel to anyone who is still young at heart (I'm 55 going on 30!) who wants to explore the local towns and meet the very friendly locals.
If you want perfection and need to be waited on hand and foot, book into a Hilton type hotel and pay 10 times plus more for your stay where you can be closeted in luxury blissfully unaware of what the real Albufeira has to offer.

We stayed at Auramar Beach Resort for one week on B&B basis and had a wonderful holiday. The rooms were clean and fresh towels everyday. On request we were provided with a kettle, pots and pans as we cooked some dinners in our room. As it was my birthday a surprise birthday cake from the hotel made it that much more special. They also provide you with a picnic (sandwiches, fruits & drinks) if you are leaving early to catch your flight. Staff were helpful and breakfast was adequate. Free shuttle to the old town was handy. Overall a good value holiday for what you pay. I will definitely go again.

its suprising that anyone enjoyed this hotel. the food is very repetative the same meal for lunch and evening and the breakfast is poor to say the least. the rooms are dated but if they were cleaned properly then this could be overlooked. we didnt get our bed changed for the week but, had clean towels everyday?. the washand basin in the bathroom was never cleaned so we did it ourselves-no hardship really. many have not mentioned the amount of walking to the resturaunt 150 paces and further if you wanted a drink between 11-5. its a long way down and back up. no where to have a coffee in the day near the seating area in reception so if its wet you got a problem. the location is ok but, not the nicest we have been to in the algarve. yes its near the strip but all thats there is tacky shops all selling the same thing. the evening bar staff were not nice, not helpful and shouldnt be there at all. the dining room staff waiters work extremely hard to cater for all your needs but there is only so much they can do to make your holiday good. all in all would we go back not to this hotel and not to the area.

Chose a 1 week B&B break with Alpharooms and what a bargain. Heard many whinging reports previously but I guess they were mostly from all-in guests who had higher expectations. Wa had a nice sea view from the balcony, no problems with cleanliness or safety issues. The breakfasts were very good (can't comment on other food or the entertainment). Reception staff friendly even when busy at week-end. Some noise on the last night of our stay due to loads of Portuguese arriving for a darts tournament. For £100 for 2 including breakfast for a week that's a bargain - try getting that in the UK!

By the way, things we could complain about - the weather, Spanish ATC strike and airport closures.
