“Lovely Portugal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2013

We spent a lovely weekend here and had a fantastic time. The staff were very friendly and the food was nice. The entertainment was good with a fabulous karaoke singer on the last night. The walk along the beach to the Old town was lovely. And the Strip is about 10 minutes away and lovely to buy gifts from. The hotel is very big but the staff made an effort to make you feel welcomed.

My partner and I (two mature adults) have just returned from a 4 night break at this hotel.
Hotel dated and definitely needs a refurb, especially bedrooms and bathrooms.

This hotel is set in good location and the bedrooms are in blocks A/B/C and D. On booking we were promised an update to a sea view room but all we could see from our balcony was a tree.
Room 411 on Block D: definitely no good if you want a view of any sort. Also air-conditioning out of order but there was a plug-in electric fan for warmth (not ideal with flex trailing on floor. We requested a room change but were told hotel full to try again next day. So as we were only there for 4 nights we decided not to bother.
Food was ok with quite a varied menu.
Entertainment poor but we didn't expect much at this time of year. On the whole I would say that anyone with walking / breathing difficulties could find this hotel a problem as there a a lot of steps and / or walking ramps. For what we paid we could not complain. The main restaurant is where you have breakfast and evening meal. Lunch is served at the pool bar and this is where there are a lot steps to get down to it and of course after a nice lunch you have to get back up the steps / ramps. Staff very pleasant and cheerful especially as they works such long hours.

Room Tip: Avoid room 411 in Block D if you want a view.

Took my other half here for 4 nights all incluivise. Staff were all really friendly and helpful. The food was really nice, everything was so clean. The entertainment was not good, but the town is only a 15 minute walk along the beach, so it didnt really matter and to be far it was well out of season.

My partner and i went here in january the hotel is very dated the food was ok, the room was nice. They need entertaiment as it was very poor a man playing an organ most nights. The views were stunning , there are a lot of steps at this hotel to go to the swimming area where they had lunch. Will not be going back to this hotel.Thank god for the karoke and if it were'nt for the millwall supporter who got up and sang we would have gone early

Positives - Good location above beach, nice sea views and access to the beach. Not a far walk from the Old Town, never took the bus. If you go out hotel and up the road, keep going right and will take you down towards Falesia Beach. A long walk but a good day out. The ticket shop is up the road, Historical Algarve Tour with Paradise Tours was a fun day out, JC and Marcio made it a good time.

Our experience:

Arrived at hotel after 10pm. Paid £10 room key deposit, another 20 euro deposit for a hairdryer. Asked for a kettle to be brought up as we'd read the reviews . Given a map and assigned a room in Block A, 4th floor.

Damp smell in the lobby and down the walkway to the restaurant, this seems to have disappeared later during our week stay as the carpets that were in the walkway were removed. We did have an ocean view but we also had rooftop views of the hotel. Hotel is colder inside than outside. Maybe due to recent rain, puddles of water in the walkways made walking precarious. We were provided a sacked lunch in our room as we arrived after dinner time, this was nice. We weren't given any information as to where the toilets in the lobby where, no access codes to the gate when going down to the beach. There is a .50 euro or more just to call a taxi or check your transfer reservation at reception. Wifi only works in lobby area.

Rooms - Beds were ok, twin beds pushed together. Pillows are too small and lumpy, floors hadn't been cleaned, cigarette burn mark on duvet. Toilets are too close to the wall. No toiletries expecpt a small bar of soap is provided. Bring your own shampoo/conditioner. Since we had two different rooms, one did have some english channels while the other room had no english channels. We had asked to have another room but were told they were full. We did ask again to be moved to a first floor room and we were moved. Still placed in the A block, this room had moquitoes in it but at least the door wasnt cracked and so no cold outside air was getting in, the heat worked. This room wasn't cleaned either, at least not the floors or the cups left on the table, I suppose either understaffed.

Dancing Bar- Outdated, wood panels and lime green and orange chairs. Entertainment varied from karaoke to reptile shows or brazilian dance shows. On going to the bar to ask for a drink, bar staff seems to be either short tempered or overworked. I was told to get in the queue, mind you I was the only person there, I was the queue. Nevermind that we are paying guests. We were also informed after 11pm, we have to pay for drinks. Not sure what the point of All Inclusive is. And you can only get one drink per person at one time.

Gymansium - No staff around to ask to turn on facilities. Maybe 3-4 machines, a small changing room, a steam room that could use some cleaning and be turned on. Jacuzzi fits 1-2 people, is more like a bath tub with jets, no chlorine or cleaner found anywhere to disinfect. Sauna fits 1-2 people sitting, 1 standing. This was never on when we went to use it, bucket for water is bolted onto inside of sauna, and spoon for water is broken so you can't fill it with water or pour any of it on rocks. Dangerously hot.

Dining - Breakfast served 8-10am main dining area, could find something to eat. Lunch served 12-3 in the snack bar which is odd but you could find leftovers from previous nights dinner. Now between 10 and 11 am, a good hour you cannot get any coffee or tea or otherwise because the coffee area in the lobby was shut down and you couldnt go back into the dining room area to get some from the machines because they would cover them up. So from 6-9:30 pm you could have dinner but no coffee or tea, just wine or sangria or fizzy drinks but you had to ask. Hotel seems a bit disorganized.

We read the reviews and were really hopeful even for 3 star but this was a let down and only giving barely 2 stars. Great location above the beach, but the staff and facilities let this place down. Too many restrictions for all inclusive, staff appears overworked and can be impatient at times. Could be a great place with an update and refurbishment.

This hotel is dated YES its also a 3 star, you pay next to nothing to stay here out of season what do people want from a 3 star ?

We were here for 10 days from 16th to 26th feb and never seen a single mosquito in or outside the hotel.

I think if you use the cups etc in the room you wash them yourself, i am a cleaner myself that doesnt make me a slave !

our room was kept spotless we had no worries about tipping our cleaner when we left.

I have read about the 1 drink policy, it does say this on the bar BUT they will give you 2 and all you do is put them on your table and go back and youll get more.we never had a problem at all with it.The bar staff will put you right if you try to be greedy (thats their job )
The all inclusive finishes at 11pm after this you pay (as at every single all inclusive hotel anywhere)

The snack bar is open 11am till 5pm and the food is nice before 3 and basic after.

The food was quite nice for a 3 star hotel (if you want 5 star food pay 5 star prices is my advice) you certainly wont starve here.

As long as you know before you book this is a 3 star hotel with lots of stairs and you expect it you wont have a problem here.

I do agree that the entertainment could be better but where do you ever get really good entertainment without the price tag ?

This hotel has stunning views.

Some people would find fault if they got the holiday totally free :)

We will certainly return for what we paid for 10 days.

Room Tip: room a517 has stunning views

Just returned from a four night all inclusive break at the Auramar which was good value at £187 including flights. It's true that the hotel is rather dated but there were no problems with cleanliness and room A423 had stunning views of the old town of Albufeira and sunsets. The food quality varied widely from pork which was like old boots to some melt in the mouth beef. Picnic lunches were provided if ordered the day before but we soon tired of the same ham and cheese "doorsteps" along with water and carton drink. For me the best thing about the hotel was its position with "easy" access to the beach although we had a hire car and so I'm not sure how it would be using public transport. I think if the hotel spent money on updating and refurbishing (definitely need new sunbeds for starters) it could be a really lovely place to stay. Overall I don't feel I can complain about a break which as far as the hotel costs are concerned only worked out at about £25 per day per person.

Room Tip: Fourth floor corner room had a balcony and double aspect.
