I stayed at the Sheraton Algarve for four night while working on a conference at the nearby Epic Sana.
Location is great and the beach below the hotel is gorgeous. Gorgeous grounds, and the hotel forms part of the Pine Cliffs resort which are houses and apartments bought by individuals as far as I could make out.
The hotel is an odd mixture. Ostensibly five star, one has to remember this refers to the facilities and not necessarily the service.
I was upgraded on arrival so I was told and given a room card that told me I had a late check out of 4pm. Very handy I thought. However if the room I got was an upgrade I would hate to have seen the orginal room. True, it had a sitting area and a balcony, but it was a bit like stepping back to the 1970's. Why do hotels seem so desirous not to allow us to use mobile devices and charge them? One plug in the wall by the desk, but not so near that cables from it would reach the desk. The only other plug was in the corridor to the front door. Not a place for leaving phones or I pads. No plug anywhere near the bed to charge ones phone while using it as an alarm.
Room service took over fifty minutes one evening to deliver a toasted sandwich and the prices while already very expensive. €13 for a ham and cheese sandwich have a €5 surcharge added for bringing it to your room. A pet hate of mine. It's called room service. Put that in the price of the item. So rip off charges. Free internet which was good, and a good breakfast selection.
Very very soft pillows which I personally didn't like.
One evening there was a function in the hotel and the whole of the main building echoed from the music making sleep impossible till well after midnight.
I wasn't paying and I'm sure this hotel exists on discount tour rates for the rooms hence the high charges for everything else. Certainty the rack rate for my upgraded room of €515 euros as advertised on a note in the room would be ridiculous and I'm sure on one pays that.
Nice helpful staff, except over the matter of the music and the terrible room service - which to be fair, they did refund. The late check out turned to be an advert not a facility, but a nice manager did arrange for me to have a 4pm check out, once she was involved. Comouters at reception are very slow and any thing involving them can take an age. My check in at 8 pm on a Saturday evening took over twenty minutes.
Don't think I'd choose this place again. Impersonal, and overpriced which is a shame given the beautiful grounds and location.
