Firstly I want to say that I feel awful writing this review when I suspect the lovely, friendly and helpful Natasha from Reception is the only person that reads them - she was one of a handful of staff who were pleasant and actually knew what they were doing - the others being the bar staff.
So just an honest open review to help people like me make informed choices.
We had transfers included in our package and this took approx. an hour. The weather at this time of the year was surprising. We got lucky and sunbathed all day. It does get chilly in the mornings and night times so you do need a jacket and long trousers.
The resort looks beautiful. Avenues of pastel coloured apartments. Our 1 bedroom apartment was really quite big with modern furnishings and neutral colours. We had a living area, dining area, large kitchen, bathroom and bedroom with fitted wardrobes and a HUGE bed. We also had a little garden with lovely furniture and two sunbeds. However they could be cleaner. i didn't really feel comfortable sitting on the sofa's as they were stained, walls had dirty marks and there were cobwebs hanging from the walls - overall not enough to make a serious dent in your mood but nonetheless annoying. We only stayed for 4 days but did not have any maid service. The maids tended to arrive at 5pm ish, by which time we were back at our apartment so they simply asked us for rubbish and replenished loo rolls. I'm not sure that this would have been sufficient if we were there for longer.
The main problem is that the resort and presumably management/team behind it were not set up for holidays. The resort was intended to be timeshares and this is obvious from the outset. It seems they have lost their way a little when decided who their market is. The bar is far too small for the resort, albeit the bar staff coped as well as could be expected (1 bar person manned the bar at any one time) and there could be no complaints as to the choice of drinks.
We didnt expect the outdoor pools to be open in winter and you do have to use a swimming cap in the indoor pool - maybe hygeine reasons do apply but they don't at my gym at home.
For myself and my boyfriend the food was the biggest problem. We found breakfast to be totally sufficient and ate this meal at the resort everyday although lukewarm is the only way to describe the cooked breakfast. We ate out three times in 3 days for other meals. Admittedly I am a bit of a foodie. I have also only been "all inclusive" a total of three times so maybe the first two resorts spoilt us however having said that I found the food here to be terrible. The choice was appalling. There was the obligatory nuggets and chips which I understand is necessary to have for children. After that there was 1 fish choice and 1 meat choice, then pasta, vegetables and rice. On one occasion the vegetables were from a tin (which I personally find unacceptable) and the pasta was always without a sauce. There was a salad bar but the meats were of poor quality and the salad options limited and just not what you would expect for the meditterean - I can buy better quality tomatoes at home in Morrisons! The food was never hot - maybe expected for a buffet style and who likes their food burning hot anyway? but it edged more towards the cold side than the warm side.
The location of the resort is good. It was a 15/20 minute walk into the "old town" and to the beautiful beach. It is also possible to walk to the "strip" albeit it is a good walk - I came back with calf muscles like Arnie!...there is a slight hill to climb upto the resort but it is really only a problem if you have been walking for miles and are already bushed (as I found out). Taxi's however are only around 4 euros.
The other guests were all English, Scottish, Irish or Welsh and it was a really friendly place.
As I said in the title it could be so nice if the management re-focused....of course you'd have to find them first. I didn't at any point see any person who looked like they were in charge, or guiding the staff or monitoring the resort - great if it runs like clockwork but when a kitchen attendant hands you a coffee cup for your soup as they have run out of soup bowls seeing a manager might have been nice...
The higher the room number the further you are away from the reception, restaurant and bar - it is q...

We appreciate when guests post a review and take all to consideration.
Thank you for the lovely comment.......We are however very sorry you did not enjoy your stay at the Eden Resort.
The food served at the Restaurant is served as a buffet, the food is freshly made and served at a correct temperature from special heat devices. If guests may find the food not warm enough we supply the microwave in the Restaurant for that purpose.
The Reason for the use of swimming hats is due to Health and Safety reasons, In Portugal it is a must.
We once again apologize that the Resort did not reach your expectations however you are always welcome back to the Resort.
