“Tropical setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2011

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights at the end of September and had the loveliest time. In fact, we didn't want to leave.

The hotel is very pretty with an almost paradise like setting. Our room was garden facing but we could still see the sea from the balcony. The garden is lovely and green with lots of trees making the whole feel of the hotel very tropical as well as private.

The circular pools are fantastic. There are 9 in total in clusters of 3. In the evenings they are lit up in different colours which was nice to see. Very different to the average and boring rectangular blue pools.

Breakfast - There is a huge variety from fruits, pastries, cereals to hot breakfasts. Champagne is also included which I thought was very generous for the price we paid.

Service - Everyone was very friendly and approachable. Nothing was too much trouble. There was no pressure to give any tips although we did as the service deserved it.

The beach is a stones through away and is beautiful. It’s a great stretch of the Algarve. About 15 minutes’ walk along the beach in either direction brings you to a few sea-facing restaurants. They are gorgeous and great value for money. They are not connected to the hotel but I would recommend the restaurant called Ol Salgados which specialise in fresh sea food. We heard about a number of nice restaurants in the town of Gale so there is a lot to choose from.

The hotel is currently being extended (was not disrupting to our stay at all) and I understand that there will be a number of restaurants opening in the next few months. We are very much looking forward to going back in the future once complete.

I cant say anything but the best of this hotel. Wonderful palm trees all arround, great dunas walk to the beach, fantastic outdoor swimmingpools, and much much more.

We are a couple with two year old twins and we had an amazing time at the hotel. We booked a junior suite with sea view and we had the most amazing view of the fantastic garden with the pools and the sea. The room was quite spacious and it was cleaned daily. Breakfast was really good, with plenty of excellent food on offer. The best thing about the hotel is its surrounding as it is set among a big garden full of palm trees; the swimming pools are very clean and lovely, especially if you have young children (they are only 40cm deep and the grounds around them are extremely safe). The beach is just five minutes away and it is a very enjoyable walk.
There is a supermarket at the other side of the resort, just ten minutes away with plenty of choice for food.
There isn't much around the hotel so it is not the best choice if you're looking for night live, but it is fantastic for a relaxing holiday.
We would absolutely love to go back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with sea view.

We had a hotel room which was very modern and clean, however it was a bit on the small side. We had room for everything, there was a wardrobe and room to keep 2 cases, and we didn't mind the size as we only slept there. I would not let the size put you off. The bathroom was gorgeous with a rain effect shower. Again everything was spotless, and maids came in every day. We did not pay for a sea view so were in a room beside the lift in the main reception building, which could be a little noisy as you could hear people go for breakfast and we could hear noise from the roof top bar in the building opposite which went on until 2am. To be fair, this noise was not excessive and was not worth complaining about, and it never kept us awake. It just might be worth requesting a room in one of the other buildings.
The breakfast buffet was good with juices, breads, pastries, cereals, fruits, yoghurts etc. However the hot food at breakfast was never hot enough and not tasty, but there was plenty of other food to fill up on. Don't even try the buffet dinner - we knew it had got bad reviews, but tried it anyway. Descriptions were missing from some of the food, and it was cold. There also was not enough choice.
The pool area was excellent, I found the sun loungers very comfortable and think it is common practice to put a towel on a sun lounger, when lying on it. The towels were brand new and you could change these throughout the day. The poolside bar was good for lunch, salads were surprisingly nice. The pools were very clean and the view from the pool areas onto the beach were beautiful. It would be hard to find another place like it. The boardwalks onto the beach were great to walk on.
Taxis into Albufeira were €12/14 each way, so expensive to go in every night. There was always a 10/15 minute wait for a taxi to arrive and then would take almost 15 mintues to get into Albufeira. The Italian restaurant in the sister hotel across the road was quite good though.
It is a quiet hotel, and while the bar is lovely and they had live music some nights, and had great cocktails, it lacked atmosphere and was dead at times.
The staff weren't trained to a good standard, so this coupled with the food, means it is not a 5 star hotel, and I think they will have to permanently adjust their prices to reflect this. I found most of the reception staff were friendly but all quite young. Some of the bar staff were attentive, however they were sometimes short staffed in the bar, meaning you could be waiting a while to order or pay. The restaurant staff were clueless. On one occasion I asked for a water, and the waitress walked off without asking if my husband wanted anything. Silly little things like this are where the hotel is lacking. But as we got a cheap deal and read the reviews, we knew what to expect so this did not bother us so much.
If you want to go lie in the sun and chill out for the week, this is perfect. However if you're looking for better nightlife, this isn't the place for you.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the main reception building as this is nearest the construction of the new...

We were at Dunas Suite for a weekend at the beginning of September. The view and the gardens are marvellous, although we think the colour of the tiles of the myriad of pools should be light blue or turquoise, then the pools look too dark to be appealing. The room in Block 6 was very spacious and well decorated, the problem was the noise in the street and from the other bathrooms in the building as well as the bed linen - it was too hot for Summer. The staff were very nice and helpful. The beach is nice but a bit crowded. The complex has too many buildings belonging to the hotel. I think there should be more space and less buildings. There should be no traffic crossing the streets between the different buildings. Nevertheless you can enjoy the garden, the pools, the beach and the sun .

Just returned from a week stay in Salgados: rooms are spacious, clean, modern and well maintained throughout the stay. While we did not book a seaview room, we had one, and as yet there have not been any discrepancies in price (we shall see!)

The pools and the beach access are simply incomparable to anything I've had before at this price: clean, sparkling pools, quiet in September, with poolside bar and towel/toilet facilities. The gardens are pretty sprawling and to be frank, with such a lovely pool, we didn't discover half of it.

Breakfast was decent buffet fare, although staff seemed a bit haphazard at times with cups missing, etc., but they make up for it in friendliness and will oblige. The major let down was dinner: cold/unimaginative buffet, and for the same price plus your taxi fare return, you can eat extremely well in O Manjar, Restaurant Acro, and other good Portugeuse restaurants in Albufeira.

All in all, an excellent facility, as other have said, let down slightly by the dinner.

Room Tip: Opt for sea view if you can!

Is this hotel finished? or why it was so cheap, then read on
Just returned from Salgados Dunas Suites and rate this hotel as average. On the surface first impressions are that it looks quiet boutique and swish until you look a little further.
Booked as two couples traveling together, but hey guess what they were put in block 1 and we in block 3, after a frank discussion we were eventually put in the same block.
Room quite small and not very much storage space, only two draws in a small wardrobe and knowhere to put luggage.
Stairways never cleaned or even swept the whole time we were there, the onsite mini market had hardly any stock or nothing you would generaly buy apart from a few fresh baked cakes and bottles of wine.
Right here we go, now I am giving an honest opinion here as have stayed in many 4 & 5* star hotels before and this definately NOT even 4*.
The food - never hot and even included cold piella!! the only definate hot food available was on the barbeque nights.
The staff were not very friendly only one or two in the resturant even acknowleged you. The pool beds were metal and had no mattresses so had to lay on towels not at all comfortable, and there was people in pool even after dark most evenings, which alarmed us as we never saw the pool being treated. The beds and parasols were exactly where they were left the next morning apart from a couple of cleaners who wiped the tables over sometimes.
However the setting was lovely with great views and had boardwalk access to the beautiful beach , however the hotel does not have any beach beds. If you wanted such luxuary 300mtrs up the beach you could hire static beds and parasols for 17euros per day which worked out to around £75 per week (cheap yeah - I bet!)
We were really looking forward to our holiday after reading the latest reviews but must say we were disappointed.

Room Tip: Definately book a junior suite
