Description: Welcome to the website of Restaurant A Ruina, located in Albufeira, in the charismatic Praia dos Pescadores. To meet us is like tasting the best in the Typical Algarvian Gastronomy. • Using the wall structure from the Tower wich defended Sant'Ana's Door, the restaurant A Ruina is open since 1971 - with Joao and Salome Lazaro: the art of good hospitality, always - associated with the development of Albufeira. With four interior rooms, being one of them an ancient well room, in the Summer you can enjoy the terrace and the esplanada at the beach.

“Beautiful views, but you pay for it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

This restaurant is very beautifully restored. It used to be castle built in the 8th century until it was partially ruined by an earthquake in the 18th century. The restaurant is clean and the structure is certainly unique. It had multiple floors with multiple dining rooms however the real place to eat is on one of its multiple balconies. The views of the ocean and old town Albufeira are simply breathtaking and definitely worth the climb up the narrow stairs. Makes for a very romantic meal.

That being said, you will pay heavily for the gorgeous view. The food was great, but we found it to be very typical and nothing really out of the ordinary for what we paid. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for the amazing views and experience however, I would stay away from their fish/seafood menu as it can be very pricey.

“Very good fish restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

The system of ordering fresh fish at the counter may be confusing yet interesting. Still, fish displayed and eventually cooked was of very very fresh and high quality indeed. We shared two starters, the cod cakes and the mackarel salad (both excellent yet slightly over priced at 10euro each). The main course consisting of dourada was excellent. Only disappointing thing was that you get one boiled potato split into two, one piece of boiled broccoli and some slices of carrots on the side (not enough for what you pay).

“Mixed bag and pricy!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

A day trip to Albufeira and we spot the roof top terrace of the ..........   The restaurant is high spec, beautifully restored and the view is magnificent.  When we get to the top we are shown a lovely dis play of fresh starters and fish with a chalk board with the daily prices.  The starters were a mixed bag. Mi had a simple, but delicious octopus salad.  My partner ordered the fresh whitebait.  It was reheated I the microwave, and as a result chewy, which is disappointing.  We selected a whole sea bass for the main, which was halved and we each had half.  It was served simply with boiled potatoes and vegetables.  It was fresh and beautifully cooked.  Totally delicious.  We ended with two coffees.  Then came the price... €100 for two courses, two beers and coffee!!!  The fish was €33 per person!!  Steep.  It's priced per kilo to hid the ridiculously high prices. I would say we had about a €60 to €70 meal, the rest was a premium for the view.  Mediocre starters, excellent mains, a bit over priced, but a view to remember.

“The view is fantastic!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013 via mobile

Fr certain, make a reservation, it is the only way you will get a rooftop seat. Great service and also great food, though, they charged us for a single large lobster and we received two tiny lobsters instead. The only reason for the 4 star rating is that. If you are up for a good view on the beach, this place is it.

“Conned!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

Very expensive. Totally agree with Vicky M, it is difficult to know exactly what the price is of the dish you are ordering. We asked for a recommendation and were given a black bream which was very tasty but cost 160 euros! Some reviews we read in advance said you could watch the sunset, which you cannot as the restaurant faces the wrong direction. Clearly a tourist trap.
