“Special night out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

It's not every night that you have the opportunity to dine at a 2starred Michelin restaurant so jumped at the chance whilst staying at nearby Alvor. Pre booking is essential as is a full wallet. The hotel/Restaurant is beautifully situated with well manicured grounds overlooking the ocean. However the gated entrance is not easy to find and staff are somewhat slow to open up. Once inside the opulence of the place is obvious, with well appointed table settings and armies of very smart staff dressed in traditional Algarvan attire. The meal consists of six courses with the occasional "surprise" in between. The presentation is superb as is the quality, the portions as you might expect are bordering on the minuscule. The wine list is presented in electronic format and is expensive at least 50 Euros a bottle. The total bill for myself and my wife was 459 Euros (1bottle of wine + 1 bottle of water) the basic price was169 Euros per person I thought that a cup of coffee might have been included but it wasn't 't !! A special night but not to be repeated very often unless you possess unlimited resources.

“70th Birthday Lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

My wife organised a special septuagenarian lunch here for me on 20th May.Twas our visit and we were joined by family and friends...7 people in total. No wonder the Restaurant has been awarded 2 Michelin Stars....the ambience, views, furnishings, staff and welcome were all absolutely first class and beyond! Then the food .....we all chose the "taster" menu....incredible, and by far the best offering we have eaten anywhere in the world, one of our party cannot tolerate fish or shell fish......no problem as she was given fabulous alternative dishes where appropriate and foolishly we had forgotten to give advance notice of her allergies! The wine, helped by staff advice was equally superb and the token Birthday cake very sweet. Finally a tour of the Kitchen and a photo with the Chef capped a truly remarkable day. We will be back sooner rather than later....Don 't delay your visit either!! This is a world beating fine dining experience

“Best Restaurant Experience in Portugal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

Vila Joya was great ... the food was good, service was outstanding, restaurant was beautiful with gorgeous views, and the sunset was amazing. Very relaxing and unpretentious dining, which I appreciate. If you don't care for seafood (which one of us didn't), you may not enjoy it as much, but even for someone with an aversion to seafood, some of the dishes were excellent.

When you go, request that they pair your dishes with Portuguese wine. Their wine list is excellent, but since you're in Portugal (which has some very good wines that aren't Port), go for a regional spin through the Portuguese wine offerings. We had a wine from every wine region and, when the waiter determined that we had some wine knowledge, he brought out some special wines for us to try.

The hotel looked wonderful ... we should have stayed here instead of the "5 star" Sheraton!

“Between Heaven and Eden”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

To all that love excellent food, excellent service, excellent view, excellent staff, excellent wine menu, excellent food presentation, this is the place. And the good part is that each of the works of art they bring you are different and unique. We always tend to book dinner, but have lunch because you can enjoy the sea view. Outstanding. My best food experience ever!
