“Back again for a second go!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2010

Me and my husband have just come back from a 2 week stay (Sept 7th-21st) We also went for 2 weeks last year. I wont repeat the good things that everyone else has said, because its all true! The apartment and location would be very hard to beat. and we had no complaints at all. There was room service everyday. Some days it was just a quick towel change, and others was a full clean. The girls on reception were extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
There are so many restaurants to choose from. We actually found that the best meals were found in smaller family run ones, as the more popular ones in the old town are a bit like a conveyor belt.. We thought that prices were very good. On average, a 2 course meal with a bottle of wine and a beer came to about 35euros, which I thought was very reasonable.
The old town, and the beeches are lovely. We also went on a day trip called 'Historical Algarve' I have to say that it was well worth the 12 euros we paid for it, and we visited some places that we would never have seen on our own. It is a very long day though, and make sure you book in the Ticket Shops, as to go through the hotel would have cost us 30euros! A shuttle to Villamura is also a nice way to while away an afternoon seeing how the other half live.
Albufira is a lovely place, with something for everyone. I hope I get the chance to return again.

We visited Forte Do Vale 4th - 11th Sept 2010, and having read the reviews on TA before going we were not disappointed. Check in is not til 4pm so we had a walk about when we got there. Found a reasonable supermarket etc. Come out of back door and walk right, past the first supermarket and continue until the 2nd one, there is a delicious bakery next door. The croissants, bread and cakes are the best!!!! The hotel rooms are spacious, with plenty of storage space in the bedroom and in the hall way. The kitchen was ideal, microwave/oven, dishwasher (which we didn't use) neither did we use the washing machine, plenty of utensils, cutlery, and crockery. like everyone else we used a pan to boil water, and the fridge freezer was a bonus, especially for water and beers!! lounge area again was spacious with sofa, bucket chairs, dining table with chairs, oh and the flat screen tv, which you can get english channels, when taking a break from the sun! Pool area was also clean plenty of sun beds, get out early thou as people put towels on from 8 o'clock, and if you can get over the far side the sun is always shining over there. the pool side bar serves drinks, snacks etc. Hotel reception is 24 hours, and receptionists are very helpful and speak good English. We never went into the bar or restaurant, but like others say there didn't seem to be much atmosphere but there is plenty to do out of the hotel. About 10 minutes walk to the strip, which has loads of restaurants and bars. girls don't take heels, streets are cobbled and slippy. about 20 minute walk to old town which we thought was best. street entertainment and plenty of restaurants and bars. we went here more than the strip. gym offered good facilities 15 euros per day or 30 euros for the week. we had a look but thats about all we did.... well we were on holidays.....definitely would go again and stay in these apartments as could not fault them and probably stay longer than 1 week.

Stayed here for 3 nights in a one bed apartment, which was plenty big enough for 3 of us and at a total of 288 euros for the stay was excellent value. The apartments are large with a nice balcony, the shower in the bathroom was hot and powerful and the pool area was very nice.
The only thing I can fault about this hotel is that the rooms don't appear to have much sound-insulation, so one night when we wanted an early night we could still clearly hear the karaoke from downstairs at midnight (I imagine this isn't good if you have small children) and also in the mornings we could hear people walking about/moving furniture etc in the rooms above us. But overall a fantastic stay.

This apartment hotel is good, but with some irritations. The apartments are very big, and well stocked with a full size fridge freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. As i'm sure many have said, no kettle, but it wasnt a big deal, just use a pan. The rooms are done every day, but only if you put the "ready for service" sign up. The only thing they did however do is hoover and change the towels. The bath or the toilet or the kitchen weren't cleaned once. they days we forgot to put the sign up , nothing was done. The towels frankly are only fit to be burnt, so as the title says, take your own. The room did have great aircon, and we were put at the far end of the hotel away from the bar, so we had lovely quiet nights, even when you could here the karaoke in the hall way.
The outdoor pools were nice, but not heated so VERY cold. There is an indoor pool in the gym but you have to pay full day rate to use (15euro, each!) which i was really annoyed about.
We found the ladies on reception friendly and helpful, despite the fact we didnt get the wakeup call we requested on check out day.
There is also no other facilities for children on site, not so much as a swing. however there is a small play park over the road, opposite the little supermarket. There is also a really friendly resturant with outdoor play facilities for kids if you turn left at the tres palmerais.
If you are looking for a beach holiday with the kids, this is an ideal area and hotel. If you are used to "doing" things or going places, either hire a car or go to a different area.

Read lots of reviews on TA and was not disappointed. All reception staff very helpful. The apartment was massive, boiled water for hot drink in saucepan didn't take long. The apartments are spacious, very clean (we had cleaners everyday and very thorough). Air conditioning very good. The only thing I think the rooms could do with are a clock, we had to set mobile phone alarm to get up for flight (phone not working, so no one on reception could ring us). The pool is very cold but lovely, plenty of sunbeds at whatever time of day. I think the apartments are situated in a good place, I would say 5-10 minutes to strip depending on how fast you walk and what road you take (3 on them). The old town is about 15 minutes, the hill coming back up (heart attack hill we called it) not to bad if you are use to walking, but there are taxi's and the train you can use. We ate some good food and it can cost as little or as much as you want it to. Ladies do not take high heels, the paths are cobbles and there are lots of cobbles missing so lots of holes to fall down and they are slippy especially on the slopes. All in all had a great time the weather was in the 80's and would definately visit again. Thanks to everyone on here who helped with my questions.

Husband & I stayed in room 410 a one bedroomed apartment with pool view from 9th - 16th September. Rooms were fine, though nothing special considering this hotel is rated Number 1 on this site.

Hotel entertainment didn`t exist apart from advertised karaoke which we avoided at all cost, the pool snack bar was average at best with virtually no choice of menu. Did use the hotel bar once and it was very quiet and closed up quite early at midnight

Girls on reception were very helpful and a credit to the hotel, for us they were the best thing about this hotel

Hotel 5 min walk to strip if you take the middle road of three right outside the front of hotel (not 15 min as some people report) Old town around 15 mins walk away but not much to see .

Great restaurant 50 yards from hotel called KOALA, as the name sugests its Aussie run and we ate our best meal of the holiday here

This is the best apartment we have ever stayed at – it was large, clean and well equipped – the towels and sheets were changed nearly everyday and the air conditioning was extremely effective and quiet – the pool area was washed down daily and even the sunbeds were washed the only downside is this area gets very crowded.
If you need a kettle – just ask at reception and although they cant provide an electric one they will supply a jug to boil the water in – which worked very well and was quicker than trying to boil water in a large saucepan – all the staff were very polite and helpful (but you do have to talk to them!)
All areas of hotel are of high standard and kept very clean – large bar although when we were there it was very quiet – even had 3 hours of happy hour – restaurant also available although we didn’t use
The apartments are well placed for both local bars / restaurants and the Strip (15 minutes walk) and the Old Town (20 minutes walk to top of escalator that leads down towards main square)
Modelo Supermarket is less than 15 minutes stroll although if you have a lot of heavy shopping there is a taxi rank just outside to bring it back (5ltr of water 30p)
The nearest beach is about 15 minutes but there is a steep hill (about 100metres of the very steep section) to negociate on the way back up – phew its hot – but a bar on the way so in desperation refreshment is available!! – any excuse !
Will definitely book again but next time for 2 weeks instead of 1
