“What a view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2013

The cathedral is impressive as well as the courtyard but then you go to the roof top and you are like WOW! We happened to be at the top when the bells tolled which made the experience even more memorable.

“Don't overlook the tower - the best part”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

Great cloister, interesting pregnant Mary statues, fantastic views from the tower, which we almost didn't explore. So glad we did, with its interesting architecture and amazing views.

“We've been on the roof a Cathedral now.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

The Cathedral is an impressive building. I was taken aback by the cloiser and its sculptures. Our son loved climbing the stairs to the roof of the cathedral where you gain a wonderful view of the town and especially the Roman Temple ruins. THe Cathedral museum was also worth a look. The little chapel in particular. Robes and paintings and many religious oddments that you probably wouldn't otherwise see.

“Fortress-Like Cathedral”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

The twelfth century cathedral crowns the historic section of Evora. It's towers and battlements make the building appear fortress-like. It was begun in 1186 in the Romanesque style and completed by 1250 with Gothic elements, so Se retains features of both styles. The two towers aren't identical - another feature that makes this church so appealing. Note the carvings of the twelve apostles on either side of the arched doorway into the church.

The nave is lined with chapels and altars. One very gilt baroque altar is devoted to the pregnant Virgin, an unusual subject. The chapels on either side of the main altar are also interesting and some are open to visitors. We didn't take the tour of the towers, but people tell that it's pretty exciting to view the city from the top.
